I'm sorry to say it will take a while still T.T I've been having a hard time, and I haven't had many occasions to actually sit down and write. Also, because I'm trying to make the fic so that 1) even people who haven't read Futile Devices can read it; 2) it covers especially the most important parts of Futile Devices while not necessarily exploring the same scenes; 3) explores what, in the fic, will be Carlos' experience with both the Jannik situation and his own burnout, deciding how to put down everything on paper is quite difficult.

Honestly, it takes more time to think and plan than to actually write. It took months to prepare Futile Devices, but technically speaking, the actual writing took around twenty days for both chapters.

Hi! I’ve been going through a rough patch and it’s making me very insomniac. Yesterday at 4am I decided to re-read futile devices. I’ve commented, I’ve sent you comments about it before here on tumvlr but I just wanted to come here again. It remains such a wonderful piece of writing. Ah, I just realised that I forgot to mention how much I loved Futile Devices on my previous ask. (facepalm) It was so gorgeously written and deeply moving. The alternative two chapter structure would've worked very well; but again, I am relieved we got to see Jannik survive and start his journey towards healing. I'd definitely be interested in reading the other characters' POVs, and most likely anything else you'd be generous to write and share with us. <3

Like I mentioned, I do plan on writing this other POVs thing, but I have to understand exactly how to structure it first, and what to write exactly, so it might take a while.

Also, I have another idea, another funny thing to put jannik through (always based on my own experiences), so who knows, I might experiment with that, too!

I would absolutely be interested in having Futile Devices but from the pov of the other characters! I think it would be interesting to read their thoughts and actions and how they view key scenes, especially because Jannik is of course an unreliable narrator in how he views himself. I'll also be perfectly honest: there's a selfish part of me that would love to see Jannik through Carlos's eyes especially 🥺

Futile Devices is such a good fic! Written beautifully. I'm so glad you went with a "happy" ending and gave us the comfort because honestly it was exactly what I needed too 🩷

Alternative/original ending? :O Would Jan have succeeeded after taking the tablets post USO final or reattempted? So glad you changed your mind!

Ok so to be completely honest, the whole thing was supposed to be structured differently. Let me know if you'd like to see something like that (you'll see what I mean)!

Originally there were also two chapters, yes, but the first one would have been from everyone else's POV, and the second one would have finally shown Jannik's.

Basically, in the first chapter you'd have seen all the characters either noticing or unknowingly witnessing (meaning they'd only see the pattern looking back later) Jannik's growing distress, and at the end of the chapter Jannik would have been found in the bathtub, too late.

The second chapter would have followed the same exact episodes of the first one, but in Jannik's POV, until, of course, his death.

The reason why I eventually went with two chapters, both from Jannik's POV, including a "healing" chapter, was because I needed it for myself honestly lol. I think it's pretty clear that fic is quite self indulgent and personal, and I decided to give it a happier ending because honestly, I needed the comfort haha.

However, I might actually decide to write another fic with the other characters' POV, though I don't know whether I'd do multiple chapters or a singular chapter containing all the povs alternated. Is this something anybody would be interested in?
