Hi i really wanted to tell you that visions of gideon has been stuck in my head to such an extent that i found myself thinking about it while dissecting a cadaver today which was both macabre and weird. The scene where carlos brings jannik the turin trophy, the illusion of always assuming you have more time and of course the confetti scene....ugh. You are simply incredible. It's been a long long time ( pun intended) since I've read something that moved me so much. Thank you for sharing your writing with us.

Oh, I completely understand. I am the same as you: I almost never read anything with "Major Character Death" in it lol.

I'll tell you what: the ending, in my vision, it is quite happy. Bittersweet maybe would be a better word to describe it, others could say sad, but if I were in Carlos' situation, I think that ending would be the best thing to happen to me. They both find solace, that's what I'll tell you. After all, for all the pain death brings to others, the "sweet old hereafter" also helps those who die find peace and rest. At least, that is what I personally believe. I wrote Visions Of Gideon with that in mind, and for me, the ending does bring some sort of comfort. Though that's subjective, of course :) anyway, I understand the reticence, so I really appreciate even just taking into consideration reading it 🫂🤍

As to why I wrote it, to be completely honest, it is because things happened in my life, I was not doing well, and I have always been better at handling emotions when other people experience them, so that's how the Futile Devices universe as a whole was born. I like to think that there are realities where even though shit happens, there is always comfort (or my version of it, even when the pain seems irreversible).

I just finished reading the FD AU, Visions Of Gideon...and I'm wrecked. OMG I'VE NEVER BEEN THIS WRECKED—Well certainly not after reading Futile Devices. Futile Devices would always remain my comfort story. But God is Vision Of Gideon made me question if I'm grieving enough. I just want to say YOU'RE SUCH A LIFE SAVIOR BECAUSE FUTILE DEVICES SAVE ME WHEN I'M AT MY LOWEST SO THANK YOU SO MUCH!! And Vision Of Gideon is definitely a revelation for me, I could cry all the time reading it—it's such a beautiful piece of writing.

But I'm curious, there's Futile Devices, there's also Vision Of Gideon...

Would there be Mystery Of Love too??

first of all, thank you so much for everything you've said 😭 and I'm glad to hear futile devices could help during a difficult time! after all, I started writing it because I was going through a rough patch myself, and didn't really see a way out lol (there's a reason visions of gideon was supposed to be the original ending), so it warms my heart seeing it helped other people too 🫂

secondly, the short answer is: YES. the long answer is: if everything goes to plan (which means my inspiration keeps nudging me towards the story I have in mind for now, and doesn't suddenly think of other AUs etc), Mystery Of Love will be the actual sequel to Futile Devices, and it's (probably) gonna cover the first half of the 2026 segment, until at least RG. I don't feel like promising anything, and by that I mean, it could happen that I suddenly get inspiration for another AU/story related to Futile Devices and that ends up being Mystery Of Love instead, but for now, the sequel is the plan.

I loooove answering questions like these about the fics etc, so really feel free to shoot me an ask everytime you feel like it.

the scene where carlos talks with siglinde and she tells him something he desperately wanted to hear but would also kill him a little bit??? when i tell you i sobbed so hard, like…sinuses swollen, not being able to breathe with my nose properly, pillow wet from tears kind of crying 😭

how did you manage to write something so beautifully devastating?! im in awe

also, these parallels the media often speaks about - jannik = ice & carlos = fire; the fact the ice and cold was the thing that killed(?) carlos would be so sad, if the fire didnt willingly let itself be consumed by the cold, it welcomed it even…and now jannik is finally happy and carlos is with him :’)

yes, that scene with Siglinde is really heartbreaking... I wish I could've focused a bit more on her and the family, but I knew if I tried to do too many things at once, it would just come out a mess 😔

YES THE PARALLELS!! they also help show how Carlos knows Jannik better than the media! while Carlos does associate Jannik with snow and coldness, he does so more because snow is/was a big part of Jannik's life and childhood, and Jannik himself repeated more than once how much he loved it (Siglinde talked about it, too); but Carlos thinks of Jannik's personality and role in his life as his sun. Jannik was his purpose, "his compass" as he says, he was a star that gave light to his life and made it better with his warmth, and now that he's gone, Carlos is literally consumed (yes, he dies) by the cold. Idk I thought it was nice!!

sorry about the rambling, I just loove giving insights about the various scenes and the little details etc.

fun fact, that scene was improvised. I knew I wanted Carlos to interact with Jannik's parents, but at first it wasn't supposed to end up a whole scene — I was thinking about them just exchanging a few words at the funeral, then Carlos feeling too guilty to ever talk to them again — but then idk I just started writing it, and this (their meeting) felt way more in character, so I kept it.

Hi I just finished reading the sequel of "futiles devices" I'm a mess, the story was so sad but beautiful ? I really don't know how to express my feelings, but this was so heartbreakingly beautiful, a masterpiece. I loved futiles devices and when I saw the sequel I hesitated cause I didn't wanna read a story with Jannik dead, but I said "why not try and I'll just log off if I don't like it" at the end I finished it. At least they are together now and Jannik is happy, that's all that matters, but yeah I was sobbing like crazy. What a masterpiece, what a talent you have, it's insane, I just want to thank you for this, I cried but it was worth it. Again thank you

I'm sorry to say it will take a while still T.T I've been having a hard time, and I haven't had many occasions to actually sit down and write. Also, because I'm trying to make the fic so that 1) even people who haven't read Futile Devices can read it; 2) it covers especially the most important parts of Futile Devices while not necessarily exploring the same scenes; 3) explores what, in the fic, will be Carlos' experience with both the Jannik situation and his own burnout, deciding how to put down everything on paper is quite difficult.

Honestly, it takes more time to think and plan than to actually write. It took months to prepare Futile Devices, but technically speaking, the actual writing took around twenty days for both chapters.
