He's been laying in bed for the last week in a delirious state, half sick, half sad, 100% very sad. But, somehow, he gets out of bed, takes his 3DS with Smash loaded in, and gets out of his room. Hidenori Tabta is (probably) back.
♚ — No matter what he says, it won’t erase the pain that accompanied his prolonged disappearance. It won’t vanquish the memories that were slowly tugged to the surface, nor will it make him forget the feelings of confusion and loneliness that came alongside them. What he says now can’t help, but somehow, he doesn’t expect it to hurt even worse.
When he says he cares, Kouha scoffs. “You never acted like it.” It’s true, isn’t it? He was always squirming away from his affections, telling him how embarrassing it was to be openly appreciated by someone like him. (He doesn’t understand that some people simply aren’t okay with that - not at first.)
Then he says those words: "You shouldn’t get to be this hurt."
He says those words and Kouha erupts.
"You don’t get to say that to me. You don’t get to tell me what I can and can’t feel. You abandoned me. You left me behind without a word and it—fuck, it—you left me! You don’t get to tell me it shouldn’t hurt when you’re the one that left me behind.”
He honestly doesn't know what to say. His mind is drawing a complete blank, yet his mouth and vocal cords seem to move and vibrate of their own accord.
"I don't know what you expect me to do. No matter what you believe or say or whatever, I'm not an amazing spectacular person that can protect you from your fear of abandonment. The most I can do is apologize and tell you to not feel so bad about it because it was just shitty luck at play."
Suddenly, a tinge of anger rises from his inner being. "But... why are you saying I abandoned you? Why are you assuming things like that? I know I'm a dismally average person, but I'm not some asshole! Sometimes life comes up and sometimes I leave in such a rush that my cell phone falls out of my pocket and I can't even tell a staff member.
"So if I'm such an asshole in your mind, just go mess with that other person again. Whatever makes you happy. Because you deserve better than this great big abandoning idiot."
And with that, he marches off towards his dorm, refusing to look back lest he burst into stupid tears of self pity over his own stupid words. He has more pride than that. Or, rather, he wants Kouha to simply move on so he won't get hurt by something stupid again. Two (three?) times was enough.
How could this happen to me. I made my mistakes. Got no where to run. The night goes on. I'm sick of this life. I just want to scream.
♚ — What did he do? The idea that Hidenori hasn’t the faintest clue what’s led to this is disheartening. It’s almost insulting, how arrogant the connotations are. To think that he could leave without a word for weeks on end and not even consider the people he was leaving behind… or one person, at least. After all, Io knew when he returned, didn’t he? That makes one of them.
The pain he’s been trying to hide seeps into his voice when he responds. “You left me." He hisses. "You abandoned me. You didn’t care what the hell happened, did you? You didn’t care about me at all.” It’s disgusting anger that prompts him to kick dirt toward the boy at his feet before continuing. “You still don’t.” It doesn’t sound like a guess or a question or something he’s hoping can be proven wrong; it sounds like a fact he has nearly come to accept.
He figures it was about his sudden disappearance, but that was an event entirely out of his control. The fact that he left in such a rush because a certain adult in his life was breaking windows with a golf club made him forget to tell anyone about his absence, especially the one who would care the most.
He doesn't speak a word, nor does he look up until Kouha's voice fades away. And he doesn't speak for a few more seconds until he can get his mind straight. Of course, that's an impossibility for him, so he grows frustrated and prompts to just speak.
"I didn't abandon you," he says, barely above a whisper. "I-I do care about you. A-a lot actually. A whole lot." A pause because he's really embarrassed. "Something urgent came up, and I left so quickly that I couldn't tell anyone. I even forgot my phone, so I couldn't say anything." At this point, he begins to lift his head, but his eyes continue to stare at the ground. "D-don't even ask about the urgent thing because it's so stupid.
"Just thinking about it gets my blood boiling. So... please don't be upset. Stuff like this is just plain stupid, like me, so you shouldn't get... to be this hurt."
HEADBUTTS, REALLY.
Punches him in the gut.
” WHERE THE FUCK ARE WE GOING, ASSHOLE? “
Another punch.
” WE’RE ALREADY GOIN’ DOWN A FUCKIN’ SLIDE. “
Pain seems to dull with alcohol which is exactly why Hidenori keeps headbutting while being punched in the gut.
"YOU WANNA GO DOWN BRUH? I'M SORRY, BRUH, I'M TAKEN. PLEASE MASTURBATE TO A PICTURE OF ME, BUT DON'T TELL ME ABOUT IT, BRUH."
♚ — Kouha watches as his boyfriend falls to the ground. He hears the sharp crack of his glasses breaking, sees shards of glass scattering nearby. Had anyone but him done this, he would have been furious… or would he? It’s not as if the other would care if it was him - why should it be true the other way around? Kouha can’t, or perhaps won’t, come up with a reason.
He can’t come up with much to say, either, beyond two heated words. “You asshole," he spits, venom dripping from every syllable. For once, he wants to speak. He wants to say something instead of blindly attacking because this isn’t anger; this is pain. And so his sword remains on his back because the chilling heat he feels beneath his skin is not entirely what he believes it to be.
He stays on the ground, surrounded by the sorry remains of his glasses, trying to decipher just what the hell was happening. The words sting, but it isn't as if they are words unfamiliar to him. Somehow, they aren't even surprising when they come from Kouha's mouth. He screwed up in one way or another, and, he guesses, this is his due punishment.
At least, as a criminal, he has a right to know what he did, so he slowly lifts himself up, takes off the glassless frames, and replaces them with a fresh pair from his jacket's inner pocket. The gesture would be comical if the atmosphere wasn't so tense.
Despite that flash of confidence, he's unable to look Kouha in the eye, and settles for just looking at his feet as he speaks.
"E-er, w-what did I do, p-pardon me for asking?" His tone is polite, but he's obviously fearful, not of Kouha's wraith, but of his own actions that caused such a reaction.
SCREAMS TO JESUS
” OR MAYBE IT’S BECAUSE OF YOUR SHITTY SIGHT? “
””“”“ACCIDENTALLY”“”” BREAKS HIDENORI’S GLASSES INTO HIS FACE.
There was blood on his face and the alcohol swishing around him wasn't helping the pain. Nor was it helping his mental state because he accidentally swallowed a few... more than few gulps on the way down this stupid slide.
"You wanna go, bruh?!" He headbutts the shithead's head. "YOU WANNA GO?" Another headbutt. "COME ON, BRUH. YOU WANNA GO?"

Well, that air is stale. lifting his head and sniffing a bit— it really looks as though no-one has been here at all. No wonder Kouha hasn’t been able to find him— no wonder knocking didn’t give an answer.]
[blinking as the man himself comes in behind him. are those suitcases?]
Uhm. Oh. Senpai. [slightly at a loss.] ….If you did something you need to take responsibility for, please report it to the authorities, not to me. [automatically.] Were you gone? [noticing the suitcase, apparently.] We thought something had happened to you. Were you ill?
Well, he avoided a visit to court through the fact he never actually did anything. He lets out a small sigh of relief and places his luggage into the room, reveling in how much he has to clean up.
"I had to go home for a bit. It wasn't an emergency or anything," he began with his back turned. "Io-kun, if a relative of yours lost the key to the house and tried to get in by breaking a window, would you question your bloodline?"
He turns around. "And then if that same relative calls you back from the academy you're attending miles and miles and mile away just for you to bring a spare key that you took, and that same relative doesn't question how much of an inconvenience that is, would you question your bloodline?
"Io-kun, I'm having an existential crisis."
BLINDING PAIN
” IF YOU’RE GONNA HIT ME IN THE DICK WITH ANY THING, AT LEAST DO IT WITH YOUR ASS. “
Is he drunk? Yeah. Goodbye, Kenneth McCormick,
There is no reaction. Hidenori Tabata is in zen mode. Through the power of his will, he knees the shithead in the dick again while riding down the slide.
"U-uwaah, I'm sorry! My knee slipped!" And then he "accidentally" knees him again. "Oh no, I can't stop slipping! Maybe it's because of this slippery slide."
Softly nudges Hidenori down the booze slide. Hope he wasn’t wearing anything see-through.
” GO DOWN WITH YOUR MOUTH OPEN FOR THE FULL EXPERIENCE, DUDE! “
He hangs onto anything for dear life and the only thing to hand onto is the naked shithead in front of him. So he naturally grabs the guy's shoulders, knees him in the dick, and falls with him down the slide.
"I hope your children are never conceived."
♚ — Homecoming. Kouha doesn’t know the meaning of it or what they’re celebrating, but it doesn’t matter. They’re celebrating, and that’s what’s important. As long as there’s a party to be thrown, Kouha will be there.
And so, it seems, will a certain someone he’s been looking for.
Hidenori Tabata.
The sight of him still makes his heart react strangely. It still pounds in his chest, sending red-hot blood through his veins, fueling him with the energy he needs to face him once more. But it isn’t fondness that does this to him. That’s been long buried beneath a dark mixture of emotions he can’t bring himself to think about long enough to identify. It’s there, surely, but weeks of loneliness and betrayal have piled atop it, leaving it to rot where he can hardly feel it.
It is with molten lava surging within him that he marches over to the boy who is supposed to be his boyfriend and moves to slap him across the face.
It was suppose to be a small little surprise trip that even surprised Hidenori himself. He couldn't say if the experience enriched him in any way because what prompted it was his dad being unable to find the spare key and Hidenori finding out that he took the spare key with him to the academy. And since he was already going back, he decided, hey, why not stay for a bit?
So Hidenori became classified for a missing person for a while. No big deal.
And then he came back, completely worn out because his family decided to throw a cake at his face for some reason. It only occurred to him later that it was his birthday when he figured out why he felt such a strange sense of deja vu.
Taking a break from the craziness of the academy, he stayed in his room for a few days only to come out of his room for the first time to be greeted by a hardy slap to the face by a shorty pink haired prince.
Newton-san said something about this kind of motion, right? There was an equal and opposite reaction?
Well, there was no opposite reaction because Hidenori fell to the floor where, upon hitting it, he cracked his glasses because he simply couldn't react.
"K-kouha-sama?" He inquired weakly from the floor, one of his cheeks stinging from the sudden attack.
” Now time to forget even more things on your very own BOOZE WATER SLIDE! ”
He’s currently naked.
” I say ‘your own’ because I rented the slide in your name. You’re welcome, dude. “
Yeah. No. This wasn't gonna happen.
"Please! Please go away! I don't want your services or your slide!! I'm calling the police, but I don't want to go be a witness at court so just run! Go away!"
up so floating many bells down || io&hidenori
[Well, he’s the Captain, and first things first, there’s something he’s really got to do. It was coming for a while, after all. That face of his is so serious.]
[striding into Suika Dorm, then. step is quiet, as ever. pausing in front of Hidenori’s door. taking a very quiet breath. it’s probably locked, but all he needs is plausible deniability. rapping twice.]
Senpai, I’m coming in!
[twisting the doorknob open, slipping inside.] Hidenori-senpai, it’s time to get up now.
There is absolutely no one in the dorm that Io enters. In fact, it looks like it hasn't been used in perhaps a week or two judging by the absolute mess his area was in. Hidenori Tabata may not look it, but he kept his place clean for the most part.
Another person enters behind Io, the idiot himself, looking extremely confused. Why was his door open? Why was someone in his room? Did he have a lapse of memory?
"I-I'll take responsibility, so please don't sue."
♚ — The booze water slide cannot and will not be stopped.
He comes out of his room, finds out about the booze water slide, and goes back into his room.
He emerges from his room with dark circles under his eyes, evidence that he hasn't slept in days.
"I forgot my birthday. Again."
[[ i am extremely sorry for inactivity. ive been... unmotivated and busy and stressed and hidenori's muse never works well with those conditions.
ill get to replies tomorrow, but until then, i've decided that it is the nerd of honor's birthday, september 22, right on the edge of what it takes to be a virgo. does that truly make him a virgo? what does it mean to be such? who knows but its his birthday ]]
So, uh, how could he put this?
Hidenori Tabata was dead. He lay murdered in his own room, locked from the inside, a classic closed room killing.
No, no, that trope was already used before, wasn't it? He didn't want to be stagnant here. He already died and became some ghost in some other alternate dimension, so he didn't want to be dead again.
Hidenori Tabata was alive. Yes, that's a good start. Telling lies is bad, children, so don't tell them! So, Hidenori Tabata was alive. Where was this idiot, though? That was the million dollar question that everyone was asking.
Was he dead? No, no, we already established I'm alive. Was he off in some distant land? Was he on campus? Was he in his room? Was he in his room playing video games for a week straight before school started? All of these were incorrect, including the very specific last question. Hidenori Tabata was visiting home, the trip unplanned and very sudden.
It wasn't any sort of emergency, no, but sometimes a man has to build suspense in his life, so he just packed up in one day, locked his door, and left.
And now he arrived back on campus with one less bag and several more bruises and a reminder about how much of the world seemed to be against it. He didn't want to talk about it; the instance was too stupid for him to explain, but it did involve him needing to shit really bad and a group of delinquents also needing to shit really bad.
At least he was back on campus, where his bathrooms were delinquent free... for the... no they weren't delinquent free, but at least rules were enforced... to an extent.
Anyway, Hidenori Tabata was back home, not dead, and empty handed.
