I just noticed one of the magazines in the recent pages has the year 2008 on it...and because Julien said he hasn't seen any other living people in 2 years, does that mean it's currently 2010? Or has the apocalypse gone on for longer?

Nope, you've got it. The apocalypse began in 2008, and has gone on 2 years making it 2010. It maybe isn't the clearest yet but I am peppering in environmental clues about the year/setting as I go. I'm very pleased somebody noticed ^_^
