Thank you, JT. Thank you for showing courage none of your white peers seem to have. Thank you for standing out and showing all of us alienated by this sport, by this “community” that there are people willing to defend what’s right. 

JT received death threats when he spoke out about racism, even before he raised his fist in silent protest. There’s Already been throngs of hateful attacks on him, and they seem to outnumber the ones in solidarity.

He mentors at-risk youth in his community. He and his family have $1500 to support the removal of a confederate statue. In the past, his wife (who seems fantastic!) said they don’t go by ‘WAGS’ (or the equivalent), but instead Bolts Better Halves so as not to exclude partners of any gender/those who aren’t married. She also donated money to Black Lives Matter in the name of the assholes who threatened JT’s life. They’ve been vocal about racism - he said we need to back up our words with actions, and he did. 

Not only is he a black man, he doesn’t have the buffers that superstar players like Sid have - the consequences are going to be terrible, and he raised his fist anyway. Hockey fans with a conscience need to stand with JT.
