DOCTOR WHO COMPANIONS
THE DOCTOR & CLARA DARK WATER | DOCTOR WHO
Vincent and The Doctor ∣∣ 05x10
" Hold my hand, Doctor. Try to see what I see. We’re so lucky we’re still alive to see this beautiful world. Look at the sky. It’s not dark and black and without character. The black is in fact deep blue. And over there! Lights are blue. And blue in through the blueness, and the blackness, the winds swirling through the air… and then shining. Burning, bursting through! The stars, can you see how they roll their light? Everywhere we look, complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes.“
“if i wanted to get into [obscure doctor who spinoff], what would be the best way?” there is no good way. pick a random book and hope it’s not the one that costs $20,000. put one of the audios available on spotify on shuffle. watch torchwood backwards or something
This post really made me want a website that selects random Doctor Who stories to force myself to get out of my comfort zone, but there wasn’t really a good one online. And then I was like, Hey, I’m a computer science student.
… so I coded a website.
I used a massive database for it. Like I’ve been consuming Doctor who content for over a decade and I still don’t recognize most of these. It was really fun to make (I encouraged people to try it out and share it :)

Thinking yet again about how doctor who has the perfect opportunity to make an incredibly interesting story deconstructing every aspect of the “shapeshifting alien invader” trope and they just. Don’t. Because they’re British
It is literally canon that there are millions of zygons living on earth currently who are protected as a refugee population by unit
Imagine what they could do if they went a step further from Zygon Invasion/Zygon Inversion and told a zygon narrative fully from the perspective of the zygon population exploring the trauma of assimilation and the ways in which they’ve built community in the ten years since they started to be settled on earth instead of pulling a “both sides” like they did last time. Shapeshifting aliens are pretty much always used in a way that harms a vulnerable population- most recently zygons have been used in some Really Questionable ways against refugees and immigrants. I want to see a story that leans hard into taking the Zygons As Refugees angle literally and sympathetically. I think there’s a really cool opportunity here to turn that narrative on its head instead of crashing right into xenophobia like this show does repeatedly
Don’t get me started on how my Jewish Osgood headcanon comes in here because I assure you it does
“I think that we were here, you know? I think that we were here together once.”
