This is my Sketchbook and Miscellaneous artwork blog!

Howdy, I’m The Painted Sable! I’m a traditional art hobbyist, and this is my art blog! I mostly tend towards mixed media, and I’ll do my best to tag the general materials I’ve used on a piece beneath any particular post. You’ll likely be seeing a lot of watercolor, marker, colored pencil, and ink, though! I happily go by the nicknames Sable, Painted, Jack, or PJ! But I’ll honestly respond to almost anything. I am an adult. I will do my best to tag and censor my posts appropriately whenever necessary, but I do illustrate gore and harsh themes from time to time. If I have a mature warning on a post, heed it. If not for your own sake, then for mine.

Annual deer post:

If you see a fawn laying down on the ground all alone, leave it alone. It is not lost, it does not need your help, do not pick it up, do not move it.

This behavior evolved to keep deer young safe. The baby is very small, very quiet, and hard for most predators to see. A young fawn cannot keep up with a fleeing mother deer, which is their primary problem-solving strategy. So while the mother goes elsewhere to graze, the fawn stays safe and hidden. The mom will be back.

Leave the fawn alone.

MASTERPOST: MTG RAT BOMB PROXY PROJECT

Heya! Felt like making an organized list so all of these can be easily found in case I forget to tag something properly!

This is my fun little personal art challenge where I am making custom proxy cards for each card in a deck made for me by an old friend of mine! Nicknamed "Rat Bomb" or "Snail Bomb" it's a pretty fun deck, but I don't exactly feel like spending all the money on it as a casual player lol. The rule I've made is that I can't play it again until I finish it out! All 100 cards PLUS the minimum required tokens!

Two! More! CARDS!!! For Rat Bomb!!!

Wave of Rats and Chittering Witch! All of the human or human-esque card types wear rat skull masks, which I've had fun playing with. And, of course, Wave of Rats had to be based on one of my favorite famous paintings. Unlike most of these cards, I did at least try to keep the arts color look on theme lol. Another card and token for my Rat Bomb deck!

I could NOT pass up the chance to add a "flying rat" to the rat themed deck. Plus, its a pretty little token to pass off to an opponent.

Four very important tokens for my Rat Bomb deck!!! Although they were also hand drawn, my original tokens really needed a refresh since I didn't really have this project in mind when I'd make them.

The friend who built this proxy deck for me didn't include the required tokens, so I had to DIY the card backing and I decided to include a little "whiteboard" corner while I was at it. Its just a cardboard-glossy tape-cardstock stack, but is surprisingly effective at its job.

Literally the most important token for the deck. Directly feeds back into my commander's (Wick, the Whorled Mind) whole deal. Get a rat, add +1/+1. Get enough rats, sacrifice the snail and deal the power of the snail as damage to each opponent (and draw that many cards).

Meaning I need at least 1 billion rats.

Basic Rats. I generate these the most.

You wouldn't hit a rat with glasses.

By far my favorite, but the one I generate the least :(

And now we're up-to-date in terms of my full sketchbook spreads! And it's another journaling spread.

A bit of a theme going on with the past few pages, spanning the semester, is that I was not doing too hot in terms of feelings lol. Happens to the best of us.

I went to an autopsy viewing (*IM A MEDICAL STUDENT* Absolutely feel like I have to preface the fact I did not just waltz in there), but I dont feel at all comfortable showing my journaling on that hence it being covered up. It's nothing crazy and mostly words, but it would honestly feel disrespectful showing much else.

And then one of the squirrels I got to help out through my job (nicknamed Evel Knievel) was sighted and is still kicking! Which you may say: how do you know it's the same squirrel? He's albino! He's been spotted playing with a ton of other squirrels and has been going great by the looks of it. :) Which makes me very happy.

A friend of mine got me a bouquet of flowers out of the blue just because she got the idea I was having a hard time. Once they started getting dry, I covered the nicer ones with paint and pressed their patterns into my sketchbook. Drew/painted in the ones that couldn't be pressed for whatever reason.

It was a nice bouquet :)

Another spread!

I ended up drawing a lot of my new friends as animals to journal more lol. Update to my sona for my journaling, as well! Plus more additions from my many, many doodles from sitting in class or listening to online lectures. Battled a bit of a bad burnout stint this last year, but I still managed to pull out of the semester with a 3.9 GPA so it wasn't all bad. And I got to doodle :)

Sketchbook spread from a while ago! I had to wait until I could snip up my class notes to get my pen sketches out of them.

I was on a bit of a motorcycle kick, and was thinking about squirrels.

More sticky notes, but this time I dont have much of anything informative to say about them!

I guess I could say to always be careful around birds of prey, injured or not, but I'd think that is common sense. I just ADORE the big birds, but just because they eat small mammals doesn't mean that those talons can't also hurt you!

Recommend looking up what coot feet look like (10/10, very cool design), don't recommend trying to interact with one (2/10, cute + small but strong + pointy).

Foxes are neat. Did you know that red foxes and gray foxes have fairly different diets?

Pelicans are masters of getting caught in line. While it may seem like you're helping by just cutting the line, consider calling a rehabber, vet, and/or your local wildlife authority when possible! You never know if they've swallowed a hook, or if there is something hidden beneath their feathers, especially if they've really tangled themselves.

For the last one... I just wanted to draw a laughing gull and a mocking bird jester doing a little dance :)
