âOh yea, that could totally work! Iâm going to have to look more into this and experiment with different things,â Trill responded, grinning. Of course she wasnât completely serious, but the idea of slippered shoes was intriguing enough, especially considering they didnât exist yet. She nodded, âMhmm. They are. Itâs funny to think we were all like that once, able to adapt to changes and things. Wonder why weâre so different now.â
A smile began to grow at the suggestion of planning something to meet up with her and her niece, and she nodded, âAw, yes! We definitely need to do that, cause Iâd love to see her too.â She stuck her tongue out for a moment, giving Em the thumbs down before laughing, âWell thatâs a shame. Those stories can be fun to believe in, especially when youâre young.â Eyes widening, she sat forward a little in her chair, âSchool?! Already? Holy moly, thatâs crazy. Soon sheâll be at college and looking for a full time job. And I donât blame you, sheâs growing up so fast.â
âNope, not for a while. The fact that Iâve been with Shaggy for over two years and you havenât met him yet, is not a good thing, I definitely need friendâs approval. I mean, heâs a great guy, and I like to think my dad wouldâve loved him, but you know what I mean.â At least she hoped she did. Laughing, she got up and moved over to rest against the counter, âJust with a bit of milk, nothing too special or fancy, thanks. So⊠how about you, do you have anyone special in your life right now?â
âDonât give me ideas for more things to test out. Seriously, I really donât need more projects to work on, I probably have a list up to here.â She held a hand up to just above her head, as though to demonstrate. âSeriously though, you can make canvas shoes resistant to water and chocolate sauce, so Iâm sure that would help.â Not that chocolate sauce was necessarily a common thing to drop on shoes, but the point was more that it would stick all over them ordinarily. âI find it amazing how some people never seem to lose that ability. You know, those adults that can have their lives turned upside down and still somehow manage to get on with it?â
âSheâd love it. She doesnât exactly get visitors very often yet, so itâs a massive thing for her.â She gasped at Trill when she gave her the thumbs down, pretending to be offended for a moment. âHey thatâs not... nice.â She couldnât keep that act up for even the whole sentence, and just ended up bursting into laughter by the end of it. âShe still has a little to go before sheâs old enough, but honestly I think sheâs ready to start learning now. But I think she does that even sitting around at home.â Looking almost frightened by the idea, Em shook her head with a laugh. âDonât talk about her starting college, I donât think I can handle that idea for at least ten years.â
âHonestly I had no idea itâd been this long! Oh yeah, Iâm sure your Dad would have loved him but I still totally need to do the whole judgy friend thing where I sit there and ask too many questions... Well, okay, maybe I wouldnât do that too much but I still wanna meet him!â Em walked over to the fridge and got the milk before walking back to put some in the two cups. âNot right now. Doesnât help that someone in my family always decides to fight with my boyfriends. I think I remember one getting shot in the leg. He was fine, but if that doesnât break off a relationship then I donât know what will.â
