will never not be insane over girlhood in yellowjackets. shauna wants to be jackie but she also wants her. she wants her bedroom, her hair, her boyfriend, her skin, her body, her life..... all of it. her love is so intense that she doesn't know what to do with it. it extendes even farther than that too. it's not just eating her corpse for food that helps her fully consume her, shauna's baby will always have that part of him that's completely jackie, he wouldn't be there if it wasn't for her in more than one way. shauna would have possibly miscarried due to the hunger and he never would have even been conceived if it hadn't been for her obsession with jackie and how that manifested in her having sex with jeff. ben is the only guy to make it out of the crash. sure, javi and travis live, but in order to survive, travis turns into an honorary girl. and javi, javi doesn't have a gender in the eyes of the group. he is the baby. it doesn't matter that he's a boy, it doesn't matter that he doesn't try (subconsciously or not) to become a girl. their girlhood is so raw and real and dangerous that they can't place a label on him or who he is because he's too pure for that. there's this idea in horror that the violence starts as soon as the plot does, as soon as the plane starts to crash, as soon as they realised that they're stranded, as soon as they run out of food, as soon as they start eating each other..... but it's always been there for them. it's the pain in jackie's eyes as she stares at herself in the mirror, it's van slapping her mother to wake her up, it's taissa's face after hurting ali, it's laura lee hitting her head, it's natalie contemplating taking the lsd, it's misty answering the phone or watching the rat, it's lottie looking down at her pills. the horror started long before that plane hit turbulence
