Despite many people's mixed feelings about the Rayman Legends Retold remake, I wanted to yap about my own feelings towards it!!!
Now, im going to start by saying I never actually cared for the og much for some reason. I think its a very nice game visually, and a very solid platformer, but it was the only Rayman game to keep my attention the least if that makes sense?
I loved the art style, that sort of painted storybook aesthetic. It was very unique and still holds up to this day in my opinion. Honestly? Like many others I find the more realism in the new game unnecessary (I felt a remake of this title in general was unnecessary but shh) but I actually dont... dislike it? I think the texturing and minor redesigns look solid. I think they do a good enough balance of keeping things detailed but still toony. I do not have strong opinions towards seperate eyes Rayman. It feels like his portrayal from Captain Laserhawk idk I guess it isnt that big of a deal to me? I feel it looks fine.
I love the returning voice cast and the full voice acting, but it feels odd to not hear the legends/origins stuff in particular to not have that pig Latin gibberish that made it stand out uniquely in the first place, but also,,,,we get David Gasman Rayman again so I am happy LOL
Many people are critiquing the darker desaturated visuals and I can understand why, but honestly I personally like this change because I can focus on stuff in the foreground easier and I'll likely have an easier time focusing while playing as a result (this is solely a personal thing with me, I was too distracted with the details in the original that it overwhelmed my eyes and wouldn't really let me focus on anything?? Idk how to word it)
I will say I absolutely ADORE more in depth cutscenes with full voice acting, I like that they're trying to make more of a story with it and do more worldbuilding. This was one of my only critiques of the og game, it was kind of hard for me to get majorly attached to the newer characters if they had not really been given much depth personality wise. I could get a general idea of them, but they didnt really stand out to me as much because they mostly just felt like "oh let's make another player alt with some different gameplay mechanics" to me.
But yeah! It's nice to see ubisoft actually trying to remake a title that isnt Rayman 1 or 2 for once so a winnis a win! Would have preferred an actual new title, but this is probably to gauge public interest and see money wise if there's a demand for it, so I will financially support it so ubisoft doesnt leave poor Ray in the basement for like 13 more years.
Oh veey minor detail I love about rays redesign: HE HAS FRECKLES,,,,,, 10/10 no notes
