(English is not my native language, so I use translator). I'm new to this Tumblr blogging thing, but I might make posts of headcanons and mini stories with Dungeon Meshi characters. I warn that they will be mostly about the Dungeon Meshi girls or some guy I consider to have too little content, like Holm or Mickbell. I also want to mention that I will probably make more content about Fleki, Namari and Pattadol, since they are my favorite characters. Also, it's very possible that the stories will be "Character x female reader" stories since, as I mentioned, I use translator and I wouldn't want to claim that I do gender neutral reader stories and then make a mistake with some pronoun.
My pronouns: any are fine, but I prefer to use the pronouns "he/him"
Just a reminder that I'm new at this posting thing in case the blog looks too unorganized or unadorned.
Yuri Vision on Fionna and Cake S2E8 "The Insect that Sang"
Trust, betrayal, and trust again. One certain way to make a romance plot exciting.
"I'm ready for whatever [...] We're goin' somewhere!" I love HW's silly smile here. It dies pretty quickly as the consequences of her actions ambush her
At first, Huntress Wizard recognizes a bad situation and her immediate response is "Uh, run!" Another example of her avoidant nature. When she realizes that they are in a court of law, she recognizes that a guilty verdict is satisfying and instant altruism takes hold: "We're here because of me." HW is so willing to accept responsibility if it means that Fionna won't have to suffer. Fionna cuts her off, however, not willing to let the odd plant girl that appeared out of the blue into her life take the blame. She seeks freedom for them instead, pleading "Not guilty!" as she is all in with HW, despite the truth that they did indeed murder a cosmic entity.
But she quickly shifts to snatching Fionna's Venusian engagement ring to try to break out. (I really really want that ring to slip back on that finger later, but whatever.)
Immediate physical comfort and support.
Something something partners in crime.
Now we come to a crux between Huntress Wizard and the metanarrative. For a while now, general discussion has theorized on how much of the happenings in Fionnaworld are predestined by the classic Land of Ooo, given Fionna and Cake's original context as diegetic fanfiction. The multiverse has been seen, and she rejects the predestination that the Cosmic Owl was emblematic of. "It's better now that he's gone! The whole idea of fate is BS!" By saying this, she claims that Fionna is not fated to be with any particular counterpart of Finn's love interests.
Fionna lies about the events of S2E6 "The Bird in the Clock," claiming that "Dream - Finn done the deed" in order to escape responsibility. Huntress Wizard makes her disapproval abundantly clear.
But Fionna is indignant. They each had expectations, thought that they were on the same page. Does this mean the Yuri is off? Au contraire, this is only a bump in the road which tests their values and makes them assess what the other desires.
The question of values and trust leads especially well into Marshall Lee's Trust Fall by @obeyev1l, weaving a theme of being able to rely on others into the episode. This trust is clearly breached, and some repairing must happen before either can move forward.
Clearly, they are having problems, but Fionna wants to fix everything for everyone.
Huntress Wizard at first glares, then looks on in disbelief and horror as Fionna makes a bad decision. The DJ Flame and Fionna kiss scene I feel is meant as a low point for her story arc.
But in that moment before, Fionna feels his hand as a wretched thing, foul to the touch. Phelix remarks "Aw, you're shaking," thinking it is out of nervousness. It is clear that she feels revulsion, but feels compelled to kiss him. She knows it is wrong, but why exactly? Has she developed an aversion to a relationship with guys in general recently, or just him? The latter would make sense, given that Phelix is a sleaze, but I immediately thought of comphet. Might be a stretch though.
Of course, Fennel sees. As discussed in my previous post, S2E7 showed a journey of self - love for Fionna via inclusion of Fennel in an inversion of the Finn - Fern dynamic. Here, that newfound self love is cast aside in a Fionna's betrayal of herself and Fennel alike. "Fennel, wait. It didn't mean anything!" DJ Flame immediately backtracks, perhaps causing Fionna to realize her error.
"Fennel! We were just vibing," DJ Flame continues off screen as Hunter and Huntress Wizard look uncomfortable.
"I missed something. This has all been useless." Huntress Wizard starts, and Fionna replies "Sorry to disappoint you" before fleeing in tears. Before the disapproval of her frequent companion over the couse of season 2, Fionna looked upset, but after HW made her remark is when Fionna left in tears. Huntress Wizard looks immediately remorseful, and might blame Fionna's ensuing downward spiral on herself. Fionna ugly - cries, wrecks shit, and enters the entirely pitiable state in which HW will later find her.
Reminder that the previous episode established that Huntress Wizard knows Fionna's scent.
Huntress Wizard can only give Fionna a bouquet of roses for straight reasons. Of course. The surface level explanation is that the pink roses that Hunter has been planting are is the Heart of the Forest and the reason HW can't yet reconnect "is because [Fionna's] world's heart" is scattered. The Fionna and Cake team could have used any plant, but they chose roses. Why? Because they wanted to have Huntress give a crying Fionna flowers.
