i wish troy barrett’s complexity got more hype. he really shows the toxicity in hockey culture, but also just how society views men. he stands up against the culture and gets shamed. but then is also seen as a hero for doing the bare minimum. troy knows he is not a hero, he is just a guy trying to do better. but both sides get so intense. there is no inbetween. they force him into a box of being a villain or a hero, when in reality he’s neither. he is just a man on a path of self betterment.

i think my dad may have just said a prophecy. he said “isn’t the he-man guy in heated rivalry?” i said nicholas galitzine was in gay movies i liked. so my dad assumed heated rivalry. so if he is casted my dad is a wizard.

i am a big fan of heated rivalry. i’ve read all the books and watched the tv show. this show is more that just smut to me. it was and still is very important to me. that being said i still believe it is deeply flawed. despite it being stated that shane is asian, the racism he faces is not talked about at all. im sure there are a few reference to it but nothing memorable.

i dont really understand why either. i get that rachel reid is white, but you can write about things that don’t effect you. there is a debate on whether white people should or shouldn’t write about racism. i firmly believe that it can be done correctly, it just requires some extra work. i think a sensitivity reader is a great person to utilize and also engageing in the community you are writing about.

i know it’s a smut book it’s not meant to be deep… but it is. we learn about ilya’s struggle with depression. they both grapple with the effect of homophobia, but racism is too far? i don’t know it just feels odd to me. don’t write a character who is not white if your just going to treat them like any other white character. this is no hate to rachel reid i still deeply love her books. this is just one of those things that i can’t really look past.

asian hate is still prevalent. representation is good but accurate representation is great.
