——another little something that Mo left behind for us.

Jimmy and I watched a show on AXStv, a Chicago Greatest Hits show.
I really enjoyed it but.
I loved Chicago from near the beginning. And I know the members, many of them, have changed as many times as the handle on great grandpa's axe.
But the songs remain the same.
(Except that was Zeppelin)
I thought Jeff Coffey did a wonderful job at lead vocal and bass. I would do Jeff Coffey. In a heartbeat. He looks like he may be a bit short for my taste but as my Uncle Bill used to say: When you're nose to nose, your toes are in it and when you're toes to toes, your nose is in it.
But I digress. Jeff. Yes, I would. He sang great, he played great, to me the consummate performer.
Not so for James Pankow, founding member. Trombonist.
Jimmy P. Is the reason I have stopped watching reality tv (somewhat.)
I started noticing it when "Deadliest Catch" started airing in second season and onward seasons. The crewmen began playing for the camera and less doing their business. Each successive season saw great increases in what Uncle Billy called "skylarking." Acting like fools and not doing what I was watching the show for. Fishing. Or overcoming distress.
That seems to be the case for many of these shows, one reason I detest HGTV now. Bob Vila and Norm Abrams were great. Anymore, I just can't take it.
James Pankow can be inducted into their overreacting hall of fame.
I believe a trombone player (hell, any instrument player for that matter) should be all about the business of playing, and not playing like a court jester.
I was watching and I would have sworn he was on something, all fidgety and hinky, jumping all over the place with exaggerated movements. You wouldn't have seen Tommy Dorsey doing all that. Panko looked like Ian Anderson. Loved Tull, not Anderson.
Anyway, enough of my incessant complaints.
My advancing age is showing.
How about I show you something else.
Now you kids get off my lawn!
