yk i really wish whenever anyone discussed fanfics and leaving comments on them, they'd acknowledge that yes, it could make the author motivated to write more, but it shouldn't be an expectation that they will. you should leave comments regardless, just because you loved the author's work, not because you're hoping to get more out of them. leave comments on fics from 10+ years ago whose authors haven't been seen for years. leave comments on fics that are anonymous or orphaned. leave comments just for the hell of it. thank you for coming to my ted talk

Definitely an unpopular opinion

But I just learned I seriously don't enjoy modern AUs in fanfic and why. Oftentimes it's written so far removed from the source material that the characters might as well just be OCs in cosplay. And I keep wondering if the author even liked anything from the og source besides the names and designs?

To me it's like taking a dragon from a fantasy story, putting him in a modern AU, in school, stripping him from all the magic that made him cool and also the dragon is now human but he keeps his name so you don't mistake him for an OC. This does not bring joy. Does that make sense?

In the case of e33, you can still have an "education system" angle to explore with the whole apprenticeship thing instead of modern school & collage. Or a florist/tattoo artist can perfectly work in og setting too with the in-universe unique meaning of flowers or pictos-on-body being taboo.

You don't have to make it an AU. You can still make it work as is.

AU where Romeo never died & survived the narrative to meet P.

I imagine this AU to have a very bitter Romeo present during P's creation. He's helping Geppetto & gaining his trust, begrudgingly, as a bit of a double agent with Lea. Yet Romeo is always procrastinating on the moment he will FINALLY "stop this". He never does. He always has an excuse. But that doesn't smooth over the fury he feels every time he sees P. And he's not sure what makes him more angry, the fact that a replacement is being made for someone he loved or that the tiny details don't match. That there are areas where Geppetto felt the need to fix, improve, or just couldn't be bothered to remember correctly. It infuriates Romeo and yet no matter how righteously he dreams of himself breaking P so Carlo's integrity wouldn't be bastardized anymore he can't bring himself to commit to it. He misses him. This AU leans toward the idea that P&Carlo eventually are the same - for the love of the melodrama :)

Low-key? Good on them for taking Luka out of the pedestal that he's perfect and completely over Marinette and very mature and chill. Letting him do smth a bit weird such as having a fake girlfriend to pretend everything is fine, being hysterical and wanting to jump into a crazy plan about The Lie, using his miraculous to test Marinette's reaction upon confessing, etc.

Hell yeah let that boy have hiccups too!! He desperetly needed scenes like this, he's still a teen after all.
