at first, lizzie was very hesitant on having kids. not because she didnβt want them or because she didnβt want to give romeo any, it was the possibility of having twins and them having to go through the burden of having the merge at the age of twenty - two like she did with josie. it was traumatizing and the thought of having her own children do that felt inhumane. yet, lizzie did it anyways because she loved her husband and did crave a life of having a family. the idea of showing them constant love and support, spoiling them gifts and traveling around the world so they could experience life and have their own memories just like she did throughout her own with the hope twins wouldnβt occur. yet, their bloodline was prone to it and the news of twins, painful even at the thought of it, was something lizzie was mentally prepared for. her first pregnancy consisting of twins, naming them carson rose vitali - saltzman and arthur cobain vitali - saltzman, and although their future was terrifying to think about, nevertheless, she loved them endlessly and would support them in all ways she could. lizzie and romeo followed in caroline's footsteps, trying to find ways to prevent their merge at the age of 22. eventually, six years later, another pregnancy with a little girl naming her waverly nicks vitali - saltzman who just flooded their hearts with love. even with the endless possibilities of what the world could do to them, whether it be positive or negative, lizzie and romeo would be there to protect them through it all with no hesitation, gladly giving their lives to keep them safe and happy. when naming their kids, it was something they meticulously thought about and taking months to decide. just saying it off the tongue to see how it sounded and as months passed by, it struck them Β . after the death of josie during the merge, lizzie was a complete and utter disaster. diving into school to obtain her phd, focusing on nothing and no one else because it felt better to not have any connection to any person and go through the grief of loss once more. it was somehow painful yet easy to cut off her immediate family and close friends because her justification and logic made sense. it helped avoid that pain that became so unbearable after losing the one person in the world who meant everything and more to her. living without josie felt impossible, just a shell of a witch who hardly used her abilities anymore, giving up fashion and traveling, being the socialite that she became accustomed for as long as she could recall. it felt like she was going mad, in constant fluctuation of the various mental states lizzie was already susceptible to. for years, itβs as if her life died the moment the blonde woke from the battle of wills.
from finishing her undergrad at princeton tp receiving her phd from stanford, lizzie wanted to get as far away from mystic falls as possible resulting her move to italy. one day, walking into a record store searching through various genres of music, searching for new vinylβs of various artists that lizzie had previously or newly adored or ones that simply reminded her of josie when one man just happened to bump into her. a tourist named romeo vitali, from new york visiting his family and the old vacation home that he went to frequently growing up. there was a spark, an instant bond that had struck as they talked about their love for music ranging from rock, new wave, punk rock, indie, and so much more. it felt foreign to share a connection with someone again regardless of how quick it was but their relationship would be far from over.

running into each other frequently whether it be at local shops, winery's, or restaurants, somehow they continuously ran into one another for weeks. sometimes making small talk, walking with one another to whatever destination they found themselves going to. him, a hopeless romantic, felt as if it were fate while lizzie, although developing feelings, was skeptical. concerned at the fact she could potentially fall for this man who she hardly even knew. there was a guiltiness attached to developing feelings and opening her heart up to others because that meant she had been moving on from the death of josie. that seemed painful all on its own. so, for awhile, lizzie avoided him and would go another way to keep out of sight or pretend to be something that but he was persistent and refusing to let her go. finally, she caved and went on a date with him. a boat ride through the coast of italy in his, one that he owned. both talking about their lifestyles, the way they made their money through hard work, something that may have been odd to others but comfortable for the two, and the fact they were both gifted with the art of witchcraft. one date turned into two, then days turned into weeks, months, and years, and overtime lizzie just fell madly in love for the simple fact he understood her trauma and loved all the flaws and perfections that lizzie did have. they got married and although she hyphenated her name legally, keeping her maiden name since she became an established engineer and doctor, it wasnβt something romeo minded.
romeo put her back together, made sure that josie was never forgotten. he absolutely adores lizzie and would never allow anything bad to happen to her or their family. heβs protective and passionate and was the person lizzie wanted in life with everything she has. they have a happy and healthy relationship and marriage, one that she never thought sheβd have. he is her other half, the one that helps her through all her highs and lows and vice versa. every person and marriage has their flaws but at the end of the day, their love was special, one of a kind, and epic. they mean everything to each other and built a life that fits them. romeo made her comfortable with the idea of having kids in which they had three because there was an abundance of love and support that they knew they could provide. heβs her prince charming, giving her the life of her dreams. meeting him, falling in love with him . . . that was her salvation.
