lost - adrift in the celestial sea of oblivion. to be an angel was to exist only as an extension of Heaven's will, to act as God's sword, to enact His plan and to want for nothing, desire nothing. to be an angel was to be without individuality, a reflection of a purpose that they were meant to follow without question.
only those at the very top, the first of God's creations, remembered how it felt to possess a will of their own. These seraphim embodied Virtue, power, devotion of the highest caliber, and that made their act of rebellion and the Fall that followed that much more painful for them to bear - because they knew their punishment was deserved. They knew that to burn in the depths of their prison was a fate they were prepared to accept, because to live freely in Hell was better than to be a servant to Heaven.
As Vein looked upon Lu Guang now, he saw himself as he had been so many millennia ago, an angel standing at the edge of a cliff thinking his wings could save him from falling off the edge into the abyss below.
" i am not interested in your confession, " the seraph responded softly, his voice still light with an unusual curiosity, as though Lu Guang were a logic puzzle he was attempting to solve. no, truly Vein knew as well as any that he could not offer Lu Guang an option for penance any more than Lu Guang could do the same for him, even as Vein sought that light with fervent desperation.
There was no forgiveness... only freedom.
He had found freedom in the abyss, his wings torn asunder and now pitch black, the light that once spurred him forth now replaced by a hungry void deep in his very essence. Individuality came with a horrible loneliness, left him starving for anything he could devour to fill that emptiness, but of course nothing could.
Surely, Vein thought, this angel of wrath was bound to a similar fate. Too passionate, too desirous, too greedy, too angry. All the more beautiful for his anger, that wrath that ached, not hot like fire but cold as ice. Equal and opposite to Vein, upon whom Lu Guang surely wished to exact vengeance.
" Are you here to try and eliminate me ? Do you think it will absolve you, somehow ? "
