The Ulam Spiral

The Ulam Spiral is a plot containing positive integers arranged in a spiral in which the prime numbers are highlighted.  You can see how the prime numbers form diagonal lines in the spiral. Even though this picture is flawed (the first ball should not be highlighted since one is not a prime number) it’s still a tripped out image and makes a great wallpaper!

The P8 I3 G2 plot is closely related to the P4 I5 G4 plot in the sense that P4 I5 G4 is a rearrangement of the plotted points of P8 I3 G2. There is the same number of plotted points, and they correspond to the same numbers, in each ring of each of the two plots.

Not surprisingly, therefore, the prime rich lines highlighted in the (-) P8 I3 G2 O0 R0 L1 H120000 show up equally clearly in the corresponding plot of (-) P4 I5 G4 O0 R0 L1 H120000.
