Lettin em know
ok today im going to make a post about one of my history faves: Gladys Bently
She was a musician during The Harlem Renaissance and very very very VERY openly a lesbian. She was known to flirt with women in the audience during her performances. She even claimed to have had a wife (although i cant find any details on that) and was quoted as saying “It seems I was born different. At least, I always thought so….From the time I can remember anything, even as I was toddling, I never wanted a man to touch me.” Unfortunately as far as I can tell none of her explicitly gay music was ever recorded Sadly, She eventually had to claim she was no longer attracted to women for her own personal safety, although to quote this article “These desperate attempts to survive do not diminish her previous accomplishments.“ In a world where it feels like the only gay people in media are thin, flat chested, white people, I think we should all take a sec to remember this wonderful lesbian
Neat!!!

I started doing shoots because at a certain point in life I began to hate having anyone take my picture. When I was younger I can find plenty photos full of cheesy grins and random poses for the camera. Teens and early 20s consisted of me telling friends “take that picture down”, “how dare you put that awful awful photo of me up” and quickly untagging myself hoping they realized I was serious and would take it tf down. I don’t know the root cause of this. Maybe it was prick that yelled at me and a friend “I’m talking to the pretty one” and me knowing he was talking to her. How? You grow up knowing there is a “type” and through various experiences and comments from strangers or peers and overall how you’re treated…You just know. However the things that start the pattern of you bullying or negatively viewing yourself can start right at home or at that annual family function by adults who have no clue what type of long term damage they’re creating. • But with each shoot.. I get to come up with a new concept. I bully myself less. I’m less uncomfortable in front of he camera if only slightly. I don’t critique the photos as much. & I get some dope ass pictures. .😝 . . You don’t have to be “friends” with fatphobes
regardless of how many or how few friends and acquaintances you have. You deserve better and you don’t have to settle for any less than that, unless you are forced to coexist with them for major unavoidable reasons.

Jemel Roberson, a real life hero, was murdered by police. For being black.
What command did he refuse? Why was deadly force needed? Why are police acting without any training?
Fucking remember his name. He’s the literal good guy with a gun you conservatives keep talking about and he was gunned down.
