On the day that a self-professed pussy-grabber enters the White House, Fawcett is launching the #SoundsFamiliar campaign. We want to hear from young women about their experiences of gender inequality, and about how we can fight back together.

Findings from our new report, ‘Sounds Familiar’ suggests that some young people still hold misogynistic attitudes - as one Twitter follower said, you’ll know this already if you’ve ever put the word ‘feminist’ in your Tinder bio...

The report also includes findings from our workshops with young people and students, who identified three important issues: 

- gender norms and stereotypes holding young women back

- sexual harassment and lad culture (an everyday occurrence)

- and the importance of taking an intersectional approach to feminism.

Gender non-conforming children shouldn’t go to Specsavers...

Specsavers have joined the ever-growing list of stores which unnecessarily gender children’s products, introducing separate sections for boys’ frames and girls’ frames.

This is not only sexist, as it assumes girls must like certain styles of glasses and boys must like others, preventing them from considering all options, it also ignores children who are gender non-conforming or non-binary.

Specsavers already separate adult frames into women and men’s sections. Now they are limiting children’s choices too.

Choosing glasses is difficult enough for children, who may worry that they will be bullied for wearing specs, without forcing them to conform to gender stereotypes.

Let’s stop this from going any further.

Gender Stereotypes - I Blame the Parents

We bring gender baggage with us at all times, and consciously and subconsciously we cloud our children's world with subtle and not so subtle messages. Many parents who think they are gender unbiased, actually aren't.

#dontblameitonthegirls - School Uniform Campaign

Has a teacher ever told you that your skirt was too short or your trousers too tight? Have you ever been told to change the way you wear your school uniform so it’s not ‘distracting’ for the boys? We think this is unfair and sexist - other pupils’ inability to focus on their work should not be blamed on a school skirt. We think there should be one school uniform list - not one for boys and one for girls - so everyone is free to wear what they like, without facing the blame for other people’s behaviour. The British army has launched an anti-rape campaign

Photographs depicting men and women who have been raped by soldiers are the focus of a powerful campaign by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) warning service personnel that consent is always required before they have sex.
