“I don’t need a hero. I just want to stay here with you.”
Maxine is notoriously stubborn but she is especially hardheaded when it comes to things she feels passionate about. No matter what Adriel says, nothing is going to change her mind because labeling him as someone evil is something she could not ever do.
When he pushes her away, the princess feels even worse than how she had felt around her kidnappers. Her heart longs for the comfort of being in Adriel’s company but seeing his blatant refusal of her company shatters her heart.
“Why do you always push me away? Do you resent heroes like me that much? What’s wrong with being around me or being with me?”
“You don’t even know me.” Adriel replied.
“This isn’t some magical tale like how your parents met.” He continued. “This is the real truth. The fact that I’m pushing you away because it is dangerous to be around me. You’re just smitten with the fact that I rescued you. Trust me. I’m not interested in you.”
He lied. Thinking about her had caused distractions in his spell work, than any other time in his life.
“So run along, princess. Don’t leave a glass slipper, I’d sell it instead of finding you.”
“team. not club.” she corrected the other immediately. ‘but, you are correct.” she did jazz hands.
“really? great because we can’t have two unstable people talking to each other, am i r-” a loud purr instantly escaped her. she leaned towards the other for him to scratch more. her eyes instantly snapped open when her grip on the branch started to slightly slip. a low hiss escaped her as she swatted at his hand. “this is a very serious topic right now!” okay perhaps she could get more head scratches later but right now she had to focus on her team.
“A very serious topic.” Adriel agreed, nodding. His hand returning back to the sweet spot to scratch on her head. “However, I’m much more inclined to join a scratch lora’s head team, than a dance team.”
“I mean... the pros of that would outweigh me joining the dance team, right?”

It is extremely unfortunate that they have to meet during such terrible circumstances but Maxine is thankful, nonetheless, for the opportunity to see the person who has been plaguing her dreams for countless nights.
“You won’t hurt me, I trust you.” The words are similar to the ones she uttered to him months ago during that fateful night when her parents hosted the ball and it is proof that nothing has changed in the way she sees him– if anything, she has only seemed to miss him in the days that passed since then.
She shakes her head and she buries her face by the crook of his neck, her arms still wrapped tight around him. How could she think of Adriel in a negative light when it is clear that he had just saved her? How could she pull away when she didn’t even realize just how much she missed him until this very moment?
“No, I’m not going anywhere. I want to stay here with you.”
You won’t hurt me, I trust you. Had anyone else said that to Adriel, he would have probably laughed. Her arms were tightly wound against him, her warm body pressed almost flushed to him. Her trust in him was screaming out in the situation, seemingly this princess is not too drawn into that invisible wall that divided heroes and villains.
“I’m no hero. You’d have to understand. I was there to collect a sacrifice.” He whispered. “Had it not been you, I would have knowingly ended someone else’s life.”
Strong arms pried himself away from her tight embrace, pushing her away at arm’s length. “I- I’m not that good of a person you’re painting me out to be. You’ve just been through a rough ordeal. Naturally... you’d attach yourself to your savior.”
“I’m not your savior... I am the reason why they kidnapped you in the first place. So run. Run away from the horrors that I’d bring into your life.”

Maxine doesn’t need to open her eyes to know whom the voice belongs to. She leans into the touch and allows the feelings of exhaustion and pent-up frustration to wash over her so that when she finally opens her eyes, the tears fill her vision.
“Adriel…” She whispers through the tears, conveying every fear and every worry she has felt, but she knows now that no more harm will come to her.
On his command, her eyelids flutter close and the countdown to three begins on her lips. As always, she trusts the prince completely– she has been through so much in the last two days that nothing worse could possibly happen to her.
When she opens her eyes, they’re in a meadow somewhere and Maxine immediately knows that all will be okay. The ropes are no longer painfully hindering her movements so she feels no resistance when she does what she does next. Perhaps it is magic that brings her to throw her arms around him in a fiercely tight hug that almost topples him over.
But she’s just too happy and being with Adriel just emphasizes that feeling.
“One.” She counted, and Adriel made sure none of these men would speak about the day, ever.
“Two.” Magic swirled around them, and a flurry of golden feathers spiraled with them as the eye of the storm.
The meadow was close to Adriel’s home. A safe refuge for now, considering his mother was still out sourcing for... ingredients for her beauty. “Three.” She finished, and her ropes vanished. He was about to speak when the blond bullet tackled into him.
His hand raised up, almost returning the hug when he allowed it to drop. “...If you’re quite done, Princess Maxine.” He spoke without emotion, her hug finally made him understand the unknown and foreign feelings within him. He had begun to care for the female. “Please be reminded I’m a villain. I had only saved you because they were being irritating.”
“I could easily bind you in ropes again and have my way with you if you do not let me go.”

Shock and relief fill her the moment she realizes the worst has been averted but at the same time, a new feeling of fear becomes the center of her focus as she waits for what is to happen next.
She hears the groans of pain and the sounds of choking before she opens her eyes and she’s beyond surprised to find her captive rolling on the floor in intense pain. Her eyes scan the room and finds that the rest of her captors are all on their knees seemingly paying homage to someone. She cranes her neck in order to gain a look but the tight ropes around her body make it impossible to do so.
The movement brings her pain then and she whimpers as the ropes dig welts into her already bruised and wounded skin– the kidnappers were surely a lot less than careful and gentle of their treatment to her. At the sound, one of the men approach her with the intent of slapping her into silence just as they always did these last two days, the bruise on her cheek is proof of that.
Maxine recoils and braces herself for the sting of the slap– perhaps the new person in the room is not exactly her savior.
Adriel moved with a fury unlike ever before. A hand was raised, and his eyes picked up a bruise on her cheek. How dare they damage his toy. She was supposed to be his plaything, something to kill the boredom for some time. Now, she’s bruised and battered.
The hand never landed on Maxine’s face. That man perhaps would never be able to slap another, his hand being separated from his arm.
Adriel walked towards Maxine, kneeling down. His fingers gently stroking her cheek. “I did say you were far too trusting for your own good, princess.”
He locked gaze with her, and suddenly, it was as if his heart remembered it’s beat. He blinked, the sensation foreign... scary. However, there was much more important things to do.
“Close your eyes.” Adriel whispered. “Count to three.”
A smile appeared on his face, a reassuring one meant just for her.
“It’d be like magic.”

It is at hour 53 that Maxine stops counting.
By this time, the ropes tied around her body have already created painful welts on her skin and she’s beyond exhausted trying to loosen them up. Thankfully, they haven’t gagged her throughout the entire ordeal but that really doesn’t make up for any of the horrible things they’ve done so far.
She openly glares at them from across the room; she may not see their faces– these cowards who hide in the shadows– but she knows full well that they are there. The smell of cigarettes filling the room already gives them away.
“Every single one of you are going to regret you ever did this to me!” She calls out, voice brave despite the impending violence such action entails. It won’t be long now before her father and mother and the rest of her aunts and uncles send someone to save her; she trusts them and knows full well that they won’t let anymore harm come to her. “My father will have your heads!”
The men haughtily at her remark and one of the masked men approaches her, painfully grasping her cheeks in his dirtied hands. “Well, aren’t you a fiesty one, princess Maxine?” He leers and Maxine braces herself for the worst.
“I like my women fierce.”
[ @fbadriel ]
The dirtied pathway led Adriel to an equally dirty and abandoned mansion.
He knocked, barely three times before the door was flung opened. The bearded male scrutinized Adriel, a sword in his hand, it’s tip pointed towards Adriel. “What business ye have?” A threatening whisper directed at Adriel was said.
Pushing the tip of the blade aside, Adriel strode in like he owned the place. He replied without even casting a glance at the other, his eyes observing his surroundings. “I was informed you had a female of beauty. Someone young enough and beautiful enough to be a fitting tribute for my mother’s magic.” Adriel glanced at the sword that returned to his neck. “Point that weapon at me again, and you’d understand the Grimhilde’s wrath”
“You’re the evil prince!” The man dumbly responded, hastily keeping his weapon. With a demeanor unlike before, he guided the prince down to the dungeons.
“I like my women fierce.” Came the echo of the male in the corridor of the dungeons, Adriel gaze became cold. Crossing the distance between cells to the source of the voice, almost instantly, in a flurry of golden shards.
“Did you just tried to sully a sacrifice meant for Queen Grimhilde?” Adriel’s menacing whisper carried across, already standing beside the male who uttered the sentence. A golden gauntlet, with razor sharp tips wrapping around his throat. His skin tore just from the merely contact of the gauntlet, lest if Adriel used any strength, he may already be dead.
Adriel shifted his gaze from the male in his grasp to the sacrifice. A look of recognition dawned on him, and his brows furrowed, when cold fury flooded his veins.
It was foreign. It was different.
He had never been this angry before.

Maxine really should have known better than to think that his words would be innocent but she finds herself not complaining as he maneuvers their bodies until he has her pressed up against the concrete wall of the building.
Nope, she definitely isn’t complaining if the way she bites her lip is anything to by.
“I don’t remember you complaining though.” Her tone is cheeky despite the prominent blush on her cheeks as she turns around in his hold to properly face him. She is well aware of the fact that there is no one else around them so she really has nothing to be worried about in terms of anyone hearing about her not so innocent acts but that doesn’t really stop her from being embarrassed.
However, at the mention of her being upset, her mood dims and a pout replaces the earlier smile on her lips. “I just had a row with my co-captain in the volleyball team.” She answers in between the kisses she presses against his lips. “Now, I feel like shit.”
He smiled into her tiny little sweet kisses, a thought of the questions she asked a few days ago popped into his head. “I might have an idea of how to take that feeling away.”
Like dancing, his hand held lightly onto her waist, guiding them to the wall beside the entrance of the roof, around the corner. It was hidden from the sunlight, casting them some shade.
