“Any time.” She grinned. “How are things, Cas?” She pulled a stick of gum from her purse. Smoking stained her teeth.
“They’d be fine if i could stop seeing that damn shooting on replay everytime i close my fucking eyes” she admitted “How about you?”

“Any time.” She grinned. “How are things, Cas?” She pulled a stick of gum from her purse. Smoking stained her teeth.
“They’d be fine if i could stop seeing that damn shooting on replay everytime i close my fucking eyes” she admitted “How about you?”
“This place is fucking falling apart honestly i haven’t walked through the corridor once since i’ve been back without seeing someone mid breakdown”
“So I mean why do people say their favourite hobby is eating when it’s essential to human life, I don’t get that. And I also don’t get how everyone is like ‘I’m not my true self when I’m drunk’ like why? Are you just hiding your actual self to everyone and it only comes out when you’re drunk?”
“People are too busy trying to convince people to like them to remember to be themselves” Cassidy shrugged
The brunette only really looked up when she heard a voice, she pulled her hands out of her pockets with her lighter in hand as she did so. “Always.” She muttered, holding the flame out to lit the girls’ cigarette, flashing her a small smile.
Cassidy smiled gently “Thanks” she nodded - inhaling as the flame licked the end of her cigarette - pulling back moments later “I owe you” she gave a small shrug. “What are you doing out here anyway?” she asked curiously
“So what you’re saying is that people will eventually forget about what this guy did, and learn to move on with their lives?” he asked with a shrug “I hope that happens. I can’t relate to anyone in this school when it comes to what they’ve experienced, but I hope everyone gets better”
“What i’m saying is everyone moves on, everyone dies..” Cassidy shrugged “One day i’ll be dead, you’ll be dead.. our parents, our family, friends.. everyone we know.. we’ll all be dead” she nodded “And who will remember us then?” she gave a shrug “Who will remember that day then?” she forced a small smile “Trust me it’s not really something you want to relate to”
thereal-love:
Love passed over her lighter. “I’ve got you, boo.”
“Perfect..” she muttered, taking the lighter - lighting her cigarette before handing it back “Thanks - you’re a lifesaver” she nodded as she inhaled
“Yeah, do that.” he said and chuckled. She wasn’t intimidated and he didn’t really care. He talked to everyone how he wanted to talk. If it was kind, rude, mean, offensive- You name it he didn’t bother. “Well little Cassidy, I’m Wesley and I’m pretty sure sooner or later you’ll figure out who I am, and it’s not a mask.” he grinned.
Cassidy rolled her eyes once more. This guy was either really stupid or completely ignorant.. unless he was a mix of both. Her hand found the front of his shirt where she gripped the material, yanking on it gently “Like i said.. It’s just Cassidy” she muttered bitterly, releasing his shirt “and I don’t particularly care either way.”
The fact there was a second shooter wasn’t really a shock to Cassidy, with the body count and the injuries that had been sustained there was almost no way one person could have pulled that off. She placed a cigarette between her lips, feeling around for her lighter in her pockets, cursing herself when she couldn’t find it.. Until she heard footsteps approaching. She looked over at the other person “Please tell me you at least have a light?”
He shook his head, sighing softly. “What’s wrong with me calling you ‘Miss King’, Miss King?” Kristoph questioned. “This is my way of showing that I respect you enough to address you formally. But if it makes you feel better, for the remainder of this conversation, I will refer to you as ‘Cassidy’.” It felt weird addressing a student by their first name. He hadn’t done so in such a long while. He sighed again, cocking his head to the side. “I’m not going to force you to do anything you don’t want to do. What I am asking you to do is question yourself as to why you don’t want to be here. As for the inspirational talk part, look at me. Does it look like I’m good at inspiring others? Be honest.” There was a hint of a smile on his lips. “But seriously, if you don’t want to be here and you know it deep down that you’d be better off elsewhere, why waste your time and money doing something you don’t want to do? What’s holding you back? Or here, in fact?”
“I don’t like it.. It’s as simple as that..” she gave a sigh “Sounds like something you’d call my mother or something.” she shook her head “I get it, you respect me.. just don’t call me that ever again” she forced a smile towards him. She really hated it, it wasn’t just her pulling at straws to annoy him - being called something so formal really got to her. “What’s holding me back?” she cocked her eyebrow, combing her fingers through her hair “Everything..” she nodded “My mother, my father, my brother, my everything..” she nodded “Despite the fact that i despise 2/3 of them to the bone.. They are family..” she shrugged “Can’t go against families wishes.. On top of that theres a couple of things i’m not ready to let go of before i disappear into a cloud of smoke”
He stared directly at her. “Never. We’re never ever really safe,” Levi corrected with a careless shrug. “Not when our consciences are alive and well.” His words were technically directed at himself. He may have seemed strong and lively on the outside, but on the inside, Levi Lahey was deteriorating. And he couldn’t do anything about it. “Careful,” he whispered, warning Cassidy. “Students burning themselves to the ground is fascinating to watch, but it’s flammable. So unless you decide you don’t want to burn with them just yet, I have a fire extinguisher. I’ll pat out your flames.”
Her gaze lifted once more as she looked back at him “Being safe would be too simple..” she pointed out “we like to make things difficult for ourselves..” she offered a half smile “Haven’t you heard the expression? We’re our own worst enemies..” she nodded, leaning in a little bit closer to him, lowering her voice to a whisper “Trust me Levi.. when i decide to go up in flames.. you’ll be the first person to know”
“Well I don’t want to live my life being unnoticed by everyone, that’s for sure” he told her with shrug, seemingly defensive over the matter. His hand formed a fist beside his leg while she spoke about the shooting “I beg to differ. That shooting affected a lot of people, so I heard– and if you’ve lost someone in the shooting then it won’t be forgotten” he pointed out “Why don’t you leave then?” he asked, needing to change the subject before it frustrated him further.
Cassidy nodded in understanding. He wasn’t the only person she’d met that had this desire so it wasn’t really a shock to her. “i’m not saying it didn’t affect a lot of people.. of course it did” she nodded “All i’m saying is in time.. things fade..” she gave a small shrug “It’s not really any of your business..” she admitted
Wesley let her words get to him. Mostly, because they weren’t true. He wasn’t wearing any mask, he was in fact being himself and the kid his parents molded together. For a few seconds, he was expresionless, and then- He simply laughed. “Good one, because yeah- You’re right the mask thing fits some, however-” He took a step closer and cocked his head. “Not everyone puts a mask on little one.”
Cassidy rolled her eyes, amused at his words and the way he laughed it off. She wasn’t scared of him, she wasn’t intimidated, then again that was how Cassidy had always been. People didn’t scare her. Unless they started firing rounds in a school corridor evidently. “It’s Cassidy actually..” she corrected him “I’ll believe it when i see it..”
“I’d like to think anyone I meet will remember my name, but I’ll keep that in might either way…” he nodded his head and then smiled for a moment “Idaho. I lived on a farm with uncle and aunty when I was younger. I moved to this place when I was thirteen though, so I’ve been in the area for awhile. I was home-schooled for a few years and I guess only now I’ve decided to try out college. See if I like it or not..”
“You intend to be remembered huh?” she smiled and shrugged “I mean.. i don’t want to be a buzzkill but we’re all pretty destined to be forgotten.. Hell even that shooting? In a year.. there will be a memorial.. the next? No one will ever remember it happened..” she nodded “I would kill to get out of this place..: she admitted
How long have you been back?
Too long.. if we could go back to isolating ourselves from this place i’d much prefer that.
Wesley turned and saw another one of those girls bump into him. Was it bump the jerk day or something? “Yeah, watch were you stumble- Not everyone handles it so fucking fine.” he snapped back and shrugged. Douche mood, back on.
Cassidy was more than used to dealing with people like him. She cocked her eyebrow upwards in amusement as he spoke “Oohh.. Scary” she spoke sarcastically, folding her arms across her chest “Tell me.. does it take effort to put that mask on? or does it just come naturally?”
There simply wasn’t enough hours in the day to make Wesley lazy enough to get up often. However, he had classes- He had kids to bully and honestly? After everything he wanted to return, just to let everyone he wasn’t affected by anything. Wesley unlocked his locker, fidging around before abruptly closing the locker, turning around and crashing into someone. “Oh fuck.” he murmured under his breath before looking up.
Honestly at the moment? Cassidy was fucking sick of this place. She hadn’t wanted to be here in the first place and now the classrooms haunted her, the images of hiding behind desks while she watched one of the only people she denied she cared about get shot. When she felt herself walk into someone she groaned “Fucking hell” as she stumbled back
