WEEK 5 9th - 16th May

This week was mainly focusing on two of our make up artists Michelle Campbell and Naoko Scintu. Michelle is a long term associate and friend of Rankins and most of her work is produced with him. This makes things quite difficult for her website as the diversity of editorial isn't there as Rankin doesn't do very much of it. She got a couple of new stories through one from Czech Elle being the main one and others were side jobs with Rankin. She also had a cover of Harrods magazine which when i got sent through i wasn't expecting it to be quite so sleek and glossy, i imagined it to be very green and plain and small and boring, but it's quite the opposite. 

the ipad is nearly finished, just waiting on more photographers to send through their work. I cant edit the photographers work on there so i have been waiting for Tim to advise on this first. I only have one more artist to complete from HMS. It's funny because it comes so easy when the artists are doing lots of editorial, but a lot of them do jobs that dont involve a final image, ie, celebrity styling, film, adverts or portraits for things like grazia which you cant really use as tears because of the layouts. 

I hate to have favourites but Naoko Scintu's work is so stunning, she works with great photographers (yuval hen damian foxe) and she does a mixture of things, so it keeps her book fresh and pops out because theres so much depth to it. WEEK 4 3rd - 9th May

I have been getting on with the ipad app, it looks so slick so im really impressed with it althoguh it is a lot of work added onto my usual tasks.

Here's a run through of my responsibilities:

. Chasing tears and JPEGs from previous jobs

. Updating new stories to the website, blog and ipad

. Updating artist's books with fresh stories, organising tears

. Keeping a spreadsheet of credits from hair and make up and ensuring they get products in return for this. Liaising with beauty brands and keeping relationships.

. Organising assistants, keeping spreadsheet of details for future reference. Ranking them from Entry, New, Very Good and Top levels.

. Going to the bank and post office/running errands.

. Creating PDF's, minibooks and artist cards for the artists

. Scanning, tearing and filing work

. Helping the photographic department with resizing jpegs, ipad app, mailing lists or anything else they might need a hand with

It's fun to actually write it all out, I dont feel i get enough credit for everything i do for them! I don't really have a job role, i started off as an intern, then a paid intern and now i feel like im a bit more than that. My boss still introduces me to people as an intern though which makes me grit my teeth a bit!!!

This week was the usual, basically doing all of those things. I have been working on Luca a little, but i am generally just waiting on Kitty (www.kittyspicerfmp.tumblr.com) to send me through photos . I did get the video back that Jack filmed for me though! Will reblog now. I love it!

WEEK 3 25th-3rd May

Since i have worked at Balcony Jump for so long, it seems odd to document it in this way, as everything i do is kindof normal for me!

This week though was a little different, since our senior booker left the company, it has been me and a fairly new junior booker Jenny and a freelancer, Sarah upstairs. This has meant that I actually have more experience with the company than Jenny sometimes does purely because I've been there for longer. Our best (and now, only) hair stylist Tim Crespin who's a favourite with Marie Claire and Glamour, and who styles Elle Macphersons hair on BNTM came in with tears and to chat about his website.

My job role at Balcony Jump started off with scanning tears and uploading to the website, over the watchful eye of the senior booker. Since then, it has ended up that I am in charge of each artist's website, keeping them all fresh and new and often discussing with the artists themselves how they'd like it to look. I also feel extremely confident in putting books together and adding fresh tears in the right places, but until Julie left i always had somebody to guide me. This week, Tim had about 5 stories to add to his book, and Jenny was having a dilemma with a job, so me and Tim ran through his website, and ended up going through his book. We ended up re shuffling his book together and he was asking for my advice, which i felt confident to give. It's hard having those kinds of discussions because you have to remember that this one sheet of paper with an image on it is actually their livlihood and their hard work, so to dismiss it you have to be tactful. Usually i ask their opinion and either agree or disagree with reasonings as i find this to be the least insulting! 

Anyway, i reblogged my favourite story of Tim's that he brought in, the model is absolutely a dream! The good thing about Tim is, he's so good at classic, glossy polished hair but he still manages to stay up to date and mess it up but in a bold, clean way. The shot of green is amazing, and I basically just love this!

WEEK 2 This week 18 - 24

So this week started off at my placement with Balcony Jump. Just the usual routine of emailing the artists to catch up on their websites, chasing images and playing around with the new office ipad my boss Tim has bought as a portfolio solution for the company. 

I have been chasing up other placements to start to get a wider variety and to utilise this time to try something new. One of the places (the only place) that got back to me was online store Not Just A Label.

NJAL host online space for new up and coming developing designers to sell their designs on their website, taking a commission from what is sold.

Initially, i was freaking out because it's a very avante garde fashion forward and design orientated brand, and my strengths do not lie in that area of fashion. However, despite swotting up on designers and blogs i could potentially reel off, when i got to their offices in Hackney i realised they were fairly ordinary fashion types (as opposed to the gaga-alikes). 

They seemed very impressed with Luca which is nice to hear as I had the sinking feeling it was putting off potential employers rather than selling myself as an employable person. I applied for the fashion editorial intern but they seemed to want to push me more into an e-commerce placement they had on offer. This is basically helping curate the online store, filter which items go up and pushing the PR and marketing side of the brand.

It is exciting but it would mean i'd have to work 3 days a week and stay a minimum of 6 months, and I wouldn't be paid for at least the first month. (I have the privelege of a paid payment i've been at for a year and a half currently) If they offer me it, I will have a lot of thinking to do. I do really want to spend some time on my online store LUCA this summer and i'd all of a sudden be working 5 day weeks for at least a month and then 3 times a week of unmovable work for the entire summer and moving into third year of uni. It would also mean quitting Balcony Jump. Fittingly, I am not going to jump the gun and presume they want me so am leaving these thought processes on hold until i get the phone call. 

Wednesday was our fashion film and lookbook photoshoot for SS 11 LUCA. The shoot went well, considering it was so last minute and the model turned up late. All the people we had on board were great so pulling all together ensured we got the minimum shots we wanted.  We also had my friend Jack Anthony Bowden shooting a promotional film on set, which Im very excited to see.

I'm anticipating seeing evertything, I get nervous (if that's the right word) handing photography to anyone else - despite him being art director for Nike! So we'll see. Massive Progress: Photo Shoot!

Today was the photo shoot for LUCA’s look book! It went really well after a few initial blips; late model, problem with initial location! But once we got into the swing of things, the shoot turned out great! Everyone worked so hard and pulled together and I’m very excited about the final images and the film, which looks amazing, from what I’ve seen! Below are just a few behind the scene images from the day!

I am lucky enough to have a third year graphics student studying at Chelsea basing her final major project on branding LUCA. She is coming up with some exciting ideas, including a promotional film which we will be shooting alongside the lookbook on the 20th of April.
