I don't think we talk about the more modern furbies enough.
Like, everyone loves furby lore, whether it's canon in some way or just personal theories about their biology.
THEN WHY THE HECK AREN'T WE TALKING ABOUT THE CRAZY ABILITIES THE CURRENT FURBIES HAVE?!?
1. Predict the future. This is real crazy on its own, and the thing about furbies being able to see the future has appeared in the lore before, so its nice to see they share that ability with older furbs.
2. Project light from their bodies (Hey Furbies do so from their ears, DJ Furbies and the upcoming Furby Vibes have light up bellies), albeit not from their eyes like furby booms. WHO DOESN'T LOVE BIOLUMINESENCE?
3. Perfectly mimic sounds around them, not limited to, but including (especially in DJ Furby's case, hence their name) others' voices (and being capable of altering the way they sound), nature sounds, and musical instruments.
4. Have a "furdar" allowing them to perceive others of their same species in their vicinity.
My personal theory is that these modern furby breeds, much like in that theory about Furby Booms using their bright patterns and glowing eyes to locate each other in the dark, also use their colorful fur and glow not only to locate each other, but to even communicate from afar (e.g. giving alert signals, signaling where food can be found, maybe something like morse code).
Using their furdar, they can not only locate furbies that may be out of their line of sight (that way, if they can't see their lights or fur, they can still sense them), but perhaps even communicate through some kind of psychic link (2005 furbies, anyone?).
The furdar thing mentions that during the furby interactions, one of them must be the "leader". I think that means that, in the wild, Hey Furbies often go around in groups and work together often (teamwork makes the dreamwork!) to keep each other safe. In these groups/packs (a noh-lah/party of furbies), they select a leader amongst them, or perhaps even take turns with the leadership role.
These furbies seem to have mastered english much faster than any other furby (that being said, the Connects also spoke primarily in english), and I believe that this lead to their vocal chords to become much, much more developed than any other breed, therefore allowing them to perfectly mimic all kinds of sounds.
They could use this ability to distract, confuse, or bait potential predators, threats, or even prey. Perhaps it could even allow them to understand new languages much faster. DJ Furbies in particular seem to have taken it to a whole new level, as they can not only mimic voices, but plenty of musical instruments (because of things such as the keyboard modes, I headcanon that most if not all DJ Furbies naturally have perfect pitch), as well as natural sounds (such as waterfalls).
So yeah, why don't we explore these little guys a little more?
Maybe next time we will analyze furblets, their connection to the bigger furbs, and how these breeds likely also communicate largely by music and singing since birth.
