summary: in which you’re missing lando, so you reminisce on some of your past memories
authors note: i don’t know what was up with me when I wrote this but it’s so sad. i didn’t plan for it to go this way at all </3
The autumn breeze was present as you sat under the beautiful oak trees, staring up at the clouds. You loved these moment of silence with nature, although it wasn’t completely silent as you could hear your little three year old, Lana, singing to herself.
“Mama, when are we going to go?” you heard her call out. “Soon, my love, Mama’s just thinking about things.” you replied to her.
She made her way over to you. “What kind of things, Mama?”, placing herself down beside you. You stroked her cheek. “Just about me and your Dada, that’s all love.”
“I can’t wait for Dada to come back from racing.” Lana replied as she ran off again, and sat down amongst the daisies.
“So, uh the lift is stuck” Lando said to you, helping you to stand up after the sudden jolt threw you to the ground.
“Thanks Lando, but I think I knew that.” Lando chuckled, both amused but also trying to mask his embarrassment. “So what do we do?” He asked you.
You loved working with Lando, you seriously did, but, sometimes he was just a beat behind.
You walked over to the buttons. “I’d probably press the emergency help button, what about you?” Lando chuckled, again, but this time to only mask his embarrassment.
You pressed the button and was met with silence. No noise, no voice that would reassure you that the fire brigade were on their way, or that maintenance would get you out soon. Nothing.
You started to panic a bit, but tried not to let Lando see it. “It’s okay, uh, I’ll call Zak and let him know what’s happening.” You pulled out your phone, but was greeted with a ‘No Service’ message in the top left corner. “Crap, Lan, I don’t have any service. Do you?”
A small smile grew on Lando’s face when you called him ‘Lan’. You never called him that before, but now was not the time to focus on that. He searched his jeans and found his phone.
“I don’t have service either.” Great.
You plopped yourself down on the floor, leaning against the wall of the lift. “It’s safer to sit down, because then if the lift starts to fall, you can lie down faster.”
Lando met you with a blank stare. “Y/N, why would you freak me out more by saying that?” You giggled, “Sorry, I genuinely didn’t mean to. Come on, sit down.” you said, patting a spot beside you.
Lando sat down next to you and you engaged in conversation, mostly about McLaren’s strategy for the next race, and about the photos you were hoping to capture over the weekend, being team photographer and all.
You talked for hours, and you noticed Lando moving himself closer and closer towards you, until there wasn’t even ten centimeters between you two, but you didn’t mention it.
You were in the middle of telling a story, when Lando grasped your face with his hand and pulled you towards him and started kissing you, softly.
This time, you were the one that was a beat behind, as it took you a few seconds to realize what was happening, but you kissed back immediately, then realized how long you had been wanting that for.
Lando then suddenly pulled away.
“Shit, Y/N, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do that without asking you, it was stupid, I don’t even know if you like me like that or-”
This time you cut Lando off by kissing him, gently stroking the stubble along his jawline before breaking it off. “I do like you like that, I was just too nervous to say anything.”
The garage erupted into cheers as Lando passed Carlos into P1. There was only a handful of laps left in the race, and you were praying that he could hold onto that lead.
The garage fell silent again, as Carlos was now within a second of Lando, and they were approaching a DRS zone. Your fingers were crossed as you watched Carlos’ DRS activated, but he just didn’t have the speed to pass Lando.
As he sped around the next few corners, you shut your eyes, until you heard.
“Oh no! Carlos Sainz has lost the rear and gone completely wide! Straight into the gravel! There’s no way he will be able to recover from this.”
That, for the McLaren engineers, was confirmation that Lando Norris, was finally a Grand Prix winner. There was cheers and tears spread around the garage, the overwhelming joy that everybody had for Lando was incredible. There was hugs all around, at you all starting chanting ‘Let’s Go Lando’
“He’s been waiting a long time for this, but today is Lando Norris’ and McLaren’s day, as he crosses the line to win the Austrian Grand Prix!”
You watched as the engineers leaned over the pit lane wall, waving and cheering for Lando. You all ran towards parc ferme chanting Lando’s name. The commentators were right, he had been waiting ages for this, but it was finally his time to shine.
He parked up his car behind the beautiful P1 stand and jumped out of the car, throwing off his helmet and balaclava into his seat. You were the first person he ran to, you threw your arms around him and hugged him tightly, never wanting to let go.
“Oh my God, I’m so so proud of you Lando. I love you forever and always.”
It was like time stopped, Lando pulled himself back from the hug and started beaming. “Y/N, I love you too.” You pulled him into a kiss as you were both in your own world, somehow able to ignore the shouts and cheers from the McLaren engineers and all the fans.
“Now go get your trophy, my love.”
You watched proudly as Lando stood on the podium, with his iconic champagne celebration. As he shook it over the crew, and your hair got soaked in champagne, you knew that this would be his first win of many.
You hitched up your dress and ran up the hill a bit faster, struggling your way in your Doc Martin boots. “Lan, if you don’t hurry up, we’ll miss the sunset.” You turned and grabbed his hand, trying to convince him to speed up.
“What’s so special about a sunset?” You felt somewhat offended by this comment, he knew how much you loved nature, photographic nature in particular. “The Monegasque sunset doesn’t even compare to the one we usually see in the UK, now hurry up, I don’t want to miss it!”
You two had finally reached the top of the hill the overlooked the whole of Monaco, and it was breathtaking. You looked out at the horizon , watching the sun set and seeing its beautiful colours reflecting off of the still water.
“Oh Lan. Isn’t it just spectacular?” you asked him, mesmerized by the scene infront. “Yeah, I have to admit that it does look stunning.” He pulled you into a side hug and gently pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “Not as stunning as you though.” You leaned tighter into his side, loving that you could finally share this view with him.
Lando went over to his backpack and pulled out his camera. You couldn’t deny that you loved him even more after he started showing an interest in photography, that was, if loving him even more was possible.
“Stand in front of the sunset and I’ll snap some cute photos.” You stood in front of the sunset, with your back facing Lando, pulling different poses, hoping they were Instagram worthy. However, when you turned back around, you were met with a surprise.
Lando was down on one knee, holding a small velvet box with a diamond ring inside it, smiling up at you. Your trembling hands went straight to cover your mouth, you couldn’t believe this was happening.
“Y/N, I am so desperately in love with you. From the moment you first joined McLaren, to the moment we had our first kiss in the elevator, to this moment, right now, and every single moment in between, I have been falling in love with you more and more each day. I’ve loved creating memories with you as my girlfriend, but I think after three years, it’s about time I start creating memories with you as my wife. So Y/N Y/L/N, will you marry me?”
You couldn’t even find the words to properly form a sentence, so you nodded frantically and repeated ‘yes’ over and over as Lando placed the ring on your finger and pulled you into a loving, passionate kiss. You couldn’t believe you would be getting married to the love of your life.
“Lando, I love you, so, so much, forever and always.”
“I love you so so much too, Y/N.”
You collapsed onto the floor, finding comfort in the cool tiles of the bathroom. You had been feeling unwell again, for what was now the second week in a row.
Lando rushed in to the bathroom. “Y/N? Are you okay?” You nodded your head and attempted to stand up, gripping on to the bath to support yourself. “Yup, all go-” but before you knew it, weakness had spread throughout your body and you had fell on the bathroom floor, again.
“No you’re not okay. I’m staying with you today.” You shook your head frantically. “No, it’s media day. You can’t stay here and neither can I.”
You attempted to get up, again, but this time Lando held you down by your shoulders. “You’re ill, you’re not going anywhere, and neither am I.” Tears started to well up in your eyes with guilt. You hated letting your boyfriend and your colleagues down, and frankly you felt you were doing both.“No, please Lando, you have to go, but I’ll stay here okay? I’ll be fine.”
Lando reluctantly agreed as he gently scooped you up into his arms and carried you back to the hotel bed, placing a glass of water on the bedside table. He stroked your hair gently as you began to doze off.
“Lando, you’ll be late.” He softly smiled, “I know, but I’m waiting for someone to look after you.” You woke up a small bit, “Please don’t tell me it’s a doctor.” Lando started to laugh, “No, no, unless Carmen’s a doctor and I wasn’t aware.”
Moments later, there was a soft knock at the door and Carmen was there, arms full of bits and pieces for you, like fluffy socks, a hot water bottle, medicine and soup. She sat down beside you and assured Lando that she’d take great care of you.
You smiled up at Lando. “Lan, you have to go, Zak will kill you if you leave the team waiting again.” Lando chuckled as he leaned down towards you, planting a soft kiss on your forehead. “Okay, okay, I’m going.” He turned to Carmen, “Thanks again for being able to look after her.” She smiled back, “Not a problem.”
It wasn’t long after Lando had left, but you found yourself back on the bathroom floor, gripping on to the toilet for physical and moral support. Carmen gently stroke your back and held you hair out of your way.
“This must be a terrible stomach bug, Y/N. How long have you had it for?” You rested your head on your arms, trying to gather your thoughts together. “Uh, nearly every day for the past two weeks. I must be allergic to something I’ve been eating I guess.”
“Y/N, I don’t mean to intrude on your personal life, but when was your last period?”
You sat back against the bathroom wall and your mouth dropped open, as you realized you had missed your period, by a lot.
“Oh God, i-it was ages ago. But I’ve been so busy with the team and everything going on at McLaren with Lando and Daniel, I haven’t been paying attention.” You pressed your face into your hands, “How could I be so stupid? Lando probably doesn’t even want a kid, I mean we’re only 26 and we haven’t really talked about it and-”
You felt Carmen’s hand on your shoulder. “Let’s not panic until we know anything for sure. Do you think you’ll be able to manage if I run to the shops for 5 minutes?”
You didn’t really want to be left alone, but you needed to know if you were pregnant or not. “Yeah, yeah, I’ll be okay.”
The next while passed in a blur, you were still sick while Carmen was out, you cried, you took the pregnancy test, but now it you had to play waiting game. 5 minutes had never felt so long.
Carmen wrapped her arms around you as you were shaking, mostly with nerves, but with a little bit of excitement too. You’ve always dreamed of having a kid, but your life was so demanding, you hadn’t really had the chance to think about it.
The sound of the alarm snapped you out of your trance. “Okay, it’s time.” You slowly made your way over to the sink, picking up the pregnancy test, and you hand reached up to cover your mouth.
Hours later, Lando finally returned home. Carmen had just left after comforting you for hours, but that didn’t stop the sobbing currently coming from you.
“Y/N, how are yo-” He paused as he entered the bedroom, not expecting to be met with you sat on the side of your bed, distraught. “Y/N, tell me what’s wrong. Do I need to get you to a hospital?”
You shook your head frantically, and patted the space beside you, motioning for Lando to sit beside you.
Your voice just about managed to whisper, “I need to tell you something, promised you won’t be mad.”
He nodded his head softly, “I could never be mad at you, my dear.”
You grabbed his hand and leaned over to the beside table, grabbing the pregnancy test to explain your story.
“Uh so, I’ve been sick for a while, but since I wasn’t at the last few races, you didn’t notice and I didn’t tell you. But this morning I took a test, and, uh, well, I’m pregnant.”
Lando looked shocked, but it didn’t take long for the shock to be replaced by pure joy. “You’re pregnant? Y/N, that’s amazing!” He turned towards you, but with a more serious tone. “Do you not want it? Is that why you were crying? I don’t mind if you don’t want it, it’s totally up to you.”
“You want it?” You asked, your voice breaking.
“Of course! Why wouldn’t I?” “We never really got the chance to talk, and I was worried that maybe you thought we’re too young, or you didn’t want kids at all.”
“Y/N, I want kids. I want a whole family with you. I love the journey the two of us have had together, but I want to share our journey with more people, people that we create.”
You started grinning from ear to ear, and engulfed him in a massive hug.
“We’re going to be parents, Lan.”
“We’re going to be the best parents ever.”
“I love you Y/N, forever and always.”
A little hand patting your shoulder snapped you out of your reminiscing. “Mama, can we go now? I can’t be late to Penelope’s tea party. Max will be dressing up too!”
You smiled up at her, and it was like looking at a carbon copy of Lando. From her beautiful brown curls to her blue eyes that were so easy to get lost in, and of course her little giggle, nearly identical to her husband’s.
“Of course Lana. We can’t let you miss the tea party.” You started to stand up and dust any dirt off of your jeans.
Lana pulled a bunch of daisies and buttercups out of her pocket. “Mama, can you send these to Dada? I hate how he’s racing all the time now, I miss him.”
You patted the girls head. “Of course I can, now go head to the car, I’ll be there in a minute.” You watched as she bounced her way to the car, skipping and singing as she went along.
You looked at the flowers in your hand, and placed them on the grave in front of you.
Dearly missed by his family and friends
Tears welled up in your eyes, but your frantically blinked them away, trying to be strong for your daughter.
“Lando, I know what you’re probably thinking. It’s terrible that I haven’t told our child that her Dad has died, but I can’t do it.”
The tears were streaming down your face now.
“You’re her favourite person. How do I tell our angel that she won’t see you again? I don’t believe it most days. I wake up every morning, praying that your accident was just a nightmare, and that you’ll wake up beside me.”
You started choking on your sobs now.
“I love you Lando, forever and always, and our little girls does too. Never forget that, okay? I miss you so so much my love. I’ll come back tomorrow.”
And with that, you turned away from the grave and headed to your car.
