âUpon suffering beyond suffering: the Red Nation shall rise again and it shall be a blessing for a sick world. A world filled with broken promises, selfishness and separations. A world longing for light again. I see a time of Seven Generations when all the colors of mankind will gather under the Sacred Tree of Life and the whole Earth will become one circle again.â
- Crazy Horse Oglala Lakota Sioux (circa 1840-1877)

âAt age 7, as is customary in Sparta, the boy was taken from his mother and plunged into a world of violence, manufactured by 300 years of Spartan warrior society to create the finest soldiers the world has ever known. The agoge, as itâs called, forces the boy to fight, starves him, forces him to steal ⌠and if necessary, to kill.â - 300

Danny Dietz was born on January 26, 1980, in Aurora, Colorado. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 30, 1999, and was trained as a SEAL. After completing SEAL training and SEAL Delivery Vehicle Training, PO Dietz served with SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team Two at Panama City, Florida, from November 2001 until he was killed in action while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on June 28, 2005. He had served in Afghanistan since April 2005, and was participating in Operation Red Wings as part of a 4-man reconnaissance mission at the time of his death. Danny Dietz was buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. His Navy Cross Citation reads: For extraordinary heroism in actions against the enemy while serving in a four-man Special Reconnaissance element with SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team ONE, Naval Special Warfare Task unit, Afghanistan from 27 to 28 June 2005. Petty Officer Dietz demonstrated extraordinary heroism in the face of grave danger in the vicinity of Asadabad, Konar Province, Afghanistan. Operating in the middle of an enemy-controlled area, in extremely rugged terrain, his Special Reconnaissance element was tasked with locating a high-level Anti-Coalition Militia leader, in support of a follow-on direct action mission to disrupt enemy activity. On 28 June 2005, the element was spotted by Anti-Coalition Militia sympathizers, who immediately revealed their position to the militia fighters. As a result, the element directly encountered the enemy. Demonstrating exceptional resolve and fully understanding the gravity of the situation and his responsibility to his teammates, Petty Officer Dietz fought valiantly against the numerically superior and positionally advantaged enemy force. Remaining behind in a hailstorm of enemy fire, Petty Officer Dietz was wounded by enemy fire. Despite his injuries, he bravely fought on, valiantly defending his teammates and himself in a harrowing gunfight, until he was mortally wounded. By his undaunted courage in the face of heavy enemy fire, and absolute devotion to his teammates, Petty Officer Dietz will long be remembered for the role he played in the Global War on Terrorism. Petty Officer Dietzâ courageous and selfless heroism, exceptional professional skill, and utmost devotion to duty reflected great credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for the cause of freedom.

Doug graduated BUD/S Class 247 in 2004 and was assigned to SEAL Team TEN. Doug deployed early to Afghanistan as part of his SEAL Platoons âAdvanced Partyâ and was sighting in their weapons when a distress call came over the radio from a Special Forces unit requesting assistance with an overwhelming number of determined Taliban Fighters they had engaged.
Gallaher and a few other SEALs jumped on a Helo and joined the fight. Doug was decorated for Valor after killing several Taliban in that engagement, his first gunfight.
On June 28, 2005 Doug found himself on another Helicopter for the rescue of four Navy SEALs during Operation Red Wings when one of the rescue Helicopters was shot down and half of Dougâs SEAL Platoon was killed. âThatâs the village Marcus was hiding at. 22 years ago in Hellweek I never imaged that my boat crew brothers would play such a massive role in history. Especially @mchooyah. We were just fired up motivated kids with massive dreams of becoming something bigger than ourselves. It is with profound respect that I say how proud I am of Rob. He has given so much to this great nation. Having him on the @team_neverquit Podcast with @marcusluttrell @the_wizard_tnq and I was an awesome experience. His humility and humor were inspiring to say the least, let alone his #neverquitstory. Never before have Marcus and Rob done an interview together. It is such. An incredible honor to know these men that as I sit here and write this post I am humbled as to the real definition of sacrifice and patriotism. My brother, thank you for all that you have done. I love you. God bless you and your family. We call ourselves Frogmen in deference to the generations of Scouts and Raiders, Naval Combat Demolition Units (NCDUs), and Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs) that paved the way for us. Some of these men went to war with nothing but a pair of canvas shorts, a haversack of C-4, a knife, and some huge balls. They were called the âNaked Warriorsâ with good cause. These men, our forefathers, did everything with nothing. We constantly strive to do their memories justice.
Today we have nearly every high-speed piece of kit we can think of. Weâre spoiled. But if you ask a Frogman, heâll tell you that all the âGucciâ gear in the world doesnât make a Frogman. Fancy kit might make you a little more comfortable, but it wonât make you elite. Thereâs a reason you start shooting rifles with iron sights. Thereâs a reason you swim with UDT shorts. Thereâs a reason you learn to paddle a boat before you get a Zodiac with a motor. Thereâs a reason you swim long distance underwater before you touch a SCUBA rig. The Frogman is the real weapon. Strip him naked and drop him a mile offshore - heâll find a way to complete your mission. This is the attitude we carry the rest of our lives and a key to our successes throughout history.
A derivative phrase is that youâre âfeeling froggyâ, meaning youâre feeling dumb and slightly masochistic and want to do something the old-school frogmen would approve of. For example (and you should never, ever, ever do this because itâs stupid), When my class graduated BUD/S we had a party at a house with a pool. We filled a CamelBak reservoir with vodka and weighted it to the bottom of the pool. The idea was that the Camelbak had to be attended at all times by a drinker. You couldnât come up until you were relieved by another diver. This should not ever be done. Ever. It was incredibly stupid. It was also incredibly froggy. Still you should never do this. Seriously.
Weâre Frogmen and weâre Team Guys. Weâre SEALs only in reference to those who donât know what weâre really like.

Dave Warsen was an outstanding operator and teammate. He cared deeply for his friends and would do anything to take care of them. Four days before OZZIE 72 was shot down, Dave was in a CH-47 Chinook helicopter that rolled over as it attempted to land during a previous operation. Dave narrowly avoided serious injury, but was shaken by this crash. Despite this, Dave boarded OZZIE 72 on that fateful morning - not because he wanted to get on that helicopter, but because he knew he had to in order to provide security for his teammates on the ground. It was the epitome of a selfless act.
On August 16, 2012, a Blackhawk helicopter (Call-sign: OZZIE 72) supporting operations in Afghanistan was shot down by an enemy RPG. All aboard were killed. Among those lost were SO1 Pat Feeks, SO1 Dave Warsen, EOD1 Sean Carson, as well as four US Army aircrew, three Afghan Commandos, and a local national interpreter.

âAlthough we never know for sure what awaits us in our next calling, in the next city or village, or sometimes within the next few feet, the most precious part of living is that we simply go.
