Hi Tumblr! Since I barely know, and don't understand this site, I decided to just do something I thought I'd like, and maybe some people would even appreciate.

So, for every week of 2024 (it's Sunday, I'm not too late yet) I'll post a song of the week. They'll be old or new, and most often will be the song I'm obsessed with that week.

So, feel free to recommend songs, comment, repost, or do anything that this site does that I don't know about yet!

Real observations since I started wearing a wizard hat daily:

- Brim is so wide that I stay BONE DRY taking walks in the rain

- Brim can be positioned to block the sun from ever getting in my eyes AND keeping it off the back of my neck

- The pointed top part creates an air pocket, keeping my head from getting hot or squishing my hair as it might in a ball cap

- Hat can easily be pulled down over the tips of my ears without looking dumb, protecting them from wind chill

- Strangers say they like my hat, giving me the chance to tell them that I am a wizard

- When you’re wearing a wizard hat, ALL OTHER FASHION CHOICES become secondary, allowing you to branch out with style

Embrace ego death. Stay protected from all elements. Wear a wizard hat.

Song of the week #3

Song: Citizen Erased

By: Muse

Released: 2001

At some point this week, I had the intro to Citizen Erased in my head, and was frustrated. I knew it was the start of a Muse song, which is odd because I don't really listen to them. I looked on spotify, but none of their five most popular songs had the right intro. Until I remembered: there is one song by Muse I do like: Citizen Erased. I put it on, and eureka: the intro started playing.

What a shame that this song was Erased from my memory. It's easily the best song by them I've heard. From the unbelievably distorted intro riff onwards, it's just pure bliss. Going from the high energy Muse is known for, while Matt actually sings in a way I like, it goes to beautiful quieter parts that are just as good as in any prog rock you'll find. Finally, Muse is ambitious enough to create an epic, and boy do they succeed. Maybe I should give them another shot...

Song of the week #2

Song: Soldier Side By: System of a Down Released in 2005

I got Hypnotize on vinyl for Christmas this year, and finally spun it today. It's a really beautiful album that I'm glad I gave a shot, despite System of a Down not falling into my usual music niches. There are some stellar songs on there, but for me, the true highlight is the album closer, Soldier Side.

Already from the opening guitar, combined with some subtle strings, you can tell that this is going to be a beautiful, dramatic, well-produced song. And it delivers on that. With dry, direct lyrics that leave little up to imagination, the soldiers that don't manage to return home are being mourned. The vocal delivery is very on point: very melodic, at points half-crying but very much still in control, while making it clear that this is no happy song. The dark subject is beautifully emphasized by the wailing guitars and the driving, panicked drums. This song is a true emotional achievement. Hats off to System of a Down.

Interesting how this game is #1 on BoardGameGeek yet most people interested enough in board games to vote on this poll have never heard of it. Goes to show how niche this hobby and that site still are

Song of the week #1

Song: The Frost

By: The Pineapple Thief

Released in 2023

I thought I'd start off with a new song. I don't know The Pineapple Thief that well, this was actually the first song of theirs that I actively listened to. I'm a huge Porcupine Tree fan, and Gavin Harrison is my favourite drummer. So upon learning that he plays in The Pineapple Thief as well, I was interested. I'm now working through their back catalogue

So, unto the song. It starts off with a catchy guitar riff, which instantly drew me in. And from there on, the song never let me go. The drums are very tasteful, as one can expect from Gavin, but the rest of the instrumentals definitely don't disappoint as well. Bruce Soord has a pleasant, gentle voice that comfortably guides you along the music's progression. And once again, it's catchy! After only having listened a few times, I'm already tempted to sing the refrain along, and expecting the comfortable, familiar parts while the song drifts from segment to segment.

Altogether, I really enjoyed this first single from their upcoming album, and am eagerly expecting what else they'll bring to the table!

A lot of autistic people are labeled as "smart" just because they have a few unique talents.

They're then expected to continue being smart according to whatever is expected of them.

For example, it's possible for someone to appear to be a math savant just because they notice a few additional patterns or memorize a few additional formulas. It's possible for someone to appear to be a computer savant just because they acknowledge that computers do what you tell them literally and do not follow human social customs.

They're then expected to be "smart" on command, always get perfect grades, be able to make a career out of it, and never struggle with anything. They're often also expected to be "smart" when it comes to things that are completely irrelevant to their special skill.

But that's often unreasonable. Expecting someone to be able to get a career in math just because they can solve math problems in their head is like expecting someone to be able to get a career as a basketball player just because they can spin a basketball on their finger.
