Perhaps his disregard for the copious sponsors kept him coming to the training center during the Hunger Games. The underground gymnasium and additional facilities were substantially less occupied during that time period because there was no tribute training. It meant most prying eyes would be glued to the nearest television screen, leaving the training center as a safe haven he could utilize. Each year he did just that to clear his head and avoid the incessant Capitol citizens whom all had something to say.
âFourâs Academy had a saying like that.â He agreed. âExcept it was always about becoming a man and bringing glory to yourself, your family, and the district.â Lincoln bought into all that propaganda growing up. District Fourâs Academy fashioned him into a Games contender and victor, as a result, but the young man lost plenty with that foolish sacrifice. âYeah, thatâd be cool. I havenât trained much with hand-to-hand in a few years.âÂ
âDoesnât sound too far from Two.â Glory and pride were pushed hard in District Two. The Games could make a person if they won, put them on a pedestal and admired for years and years to come. Even the dead were honored in a way, admired for their fight depending on how they died. But they were soon forgotten; after all, history tended to be written by the Victors, after all.
Fell nodded toward the open space in front of him, a silent invitation for Lincoln to step up. âIâll show you how to do that take down. Iâm not gonna knock you on your ass, but Iâll show you what I did. So go ahead and come at me, Iâll walk you through it.â Besides, he wasnât sure how Thalia would have taken it if he had kicked Lincoln around the mat a few too many times.Â
