in sixth grade my homeroom teacher caught this kid stephen saying, “that’s so gay.”
so he told the class that for the rest of the week, anytime you wanted to express something negatively, you could say, “that’s so stephen.”
and it started out as a joke, where even this stephen kid was going around using it, laughing at it, not really caring. it was funny, i guess.
but then one of his friends got a bad mark on a test and said, “that’s so stephen.”
we had a blacktop recess and everyone kept saying, “that’s so stephen.”
and when we got too loud doing groupwork and had to separate and work silently, everyone in the class kept muttering, “that’s so stephen.”
and the weirdest part was that even though it was just a word we were using, even though it had nothing to do with stephen, we all sort of blamed stephen.
and as everyone kept using “that’s so stephen,” all week, you could see stephen himself finding it less and less funny. we played a game called “pamplemousse” in french class and everyone got stephen out right away if they could. someone literally went and found one of stephen’s art projects when nobody else was around and ruined it so he had to start over.
and when my homeroom teacher found out about it, he sat everyone down and told us that it wasn’t okay to say “that’s so stephen” anymore. that the things we’d been blaming him for weren’t his fault and the things we’d been doing to him weren’t fair.
he told us that stephen couldn’t help it that he was stephen. he didn’t choose to be stephen. he was born stephen.
and that’s when it clicked.
we all felt pretty stupid, i think, for sort of falling for it, but i’ll be damned if i’ve ever had a teacher get a lesson across so utterly and completely as mr. bernard did.
it hadn’t even been the full week.
Reblog if at some point you've tried to see if you had super powers.

I have tried to use my Matilda powers pretty much daily for the past 15 years.
Watch: Bill Nye uses science to defend women’s reproductive rights.
If any “celebrity” should run for president, it should be Bill Nye.
Or, let’s make him King.
Bernie Sanders says Black Lives Matter

Seriously vote for him. Don’t let that Donald trump joke win 😒
This is especially interesting to me given where I currently live.
South Carolina - the Charleston area - has a very high crime rate. Shootings are frequent and the environment can just feel outright hostile.
Unfortunately, there is a correlation between the number of colored residents and the higher crime rates. But that same correlation can be made if we compare the crime rates with racial diversity.
When an area is more diverse, we see groups of common ethnicities cluster together. But then disputes happen between the groups. Gangs and cults form. Religion and politics get involved. And things go south once a fire is shot.
In truth, there does seem to be a higher rate of violence within the black community as well, which seems to be a snowball effect based on...cultural habits... paired with the prejudice of majority groups. There's much more to it than that, but that's the short version.
How do we solve this problem? Black lives matter might help. This isn't to say that other lives don't matter. ALL lives matter. And it's not that we all deserve to not die. We all deserve a better quality of life.
Once I was at a plant store and I have this subconscious habit of pulling leaves of plants so I did that and stuck the leaf in my pocket and when I got home I found it and felt bad so I dropped it in a pot with a bromiliad and a few weeks later it had taken root and started growing and that’s the story of how I pirated a plant

I actually really like your idea of a Biden/Stewart ticket. Biden's got the experience necessary, plus he's also relatable and likable. And Jon Stewart is on the younger side, as well as pretty intelligent and politically aware. Do you think Biden would actually ever pick Stewart as his VP though? And if he did, do you think they would win?
If Biden wanted to win, he would have to really build a movement that excites voters in a way that Hillary Clinton hasn’t and Bernie Sanders has tried to do to a certain extent but can’t get past because of the ceiling that keeps him from being a legitimate contender. Choosing somebody from outside of day-to-day, elective politics would speak to the trends that the voters seem to be hoping for going into this election cycle. Stewart is a perfect option for that because we know who he is and we recognize that he can be serious, that he does have core beliefs and he has an unique integrity that appeals to people.
And if Biden runs, his biggest issue is going to be his age. He’ll be the oldest President ever elected. He’ll need a younger running mate. And if Jon Stewart were to take the path into real politics, he’d need some time as an understudy. The Vice Presidency is a pretty damn good place to do that. As I mentioned, if Biden committed himself to serving just one term, he would alleviate some of the concerns about his age while also making it apparent that he wasn’t just as lame-duck because Stewart would obviously be a partner and potential successor. They could absolutely win. That’s a ticket that would definitely create a buzz and while it probably wouldn’t reach the level of Obama’s momentum in 2007 and 2008, it would be a movement unlike anything on either side of the political spectrum in this 2016 cycle.
I think we’re on to something here. Biden/Stewart 2016. You’re welcome, America.
Dear Jesus— let the Party Bosses hear this and see the light. Bring Joe Biden and John Stewart together to wrest this nation from the jowls of Satan. Amen.
Ian Mercer, father of the man who killed nine people and wounded nine others at Umpqua Community College, spoke to CNN Saturday. In the interview Mercer called the event “devastating” and explained he was still trying to understand it, but he took the time to issue a passionate call for the U.S. to restrict access to firearms.
Satellite captures enormous 90-mile-wide storm that’s underwater
A NASA satellite has provided jaw-dropping pictures of a huge ‘storm’ brewing under the sea. The swirling mass of water, which measures a whopping 93 miles wide, has been spotted off the coast of South Africa by the Terra satellite on December 26. It looks deadly but it more likely to create life by lifting nutrients from the ocean floor. (Source)
