Final Fantasy XIV - Patch V3.3 Introduction

Eternal Bonding is got to be the most Disney-isque feature of FFXIV I’ve experienced. And here goes a shot of three “brides” or “bride-to-be” on the same couch.

Encountered a similar case at work recently and found tons of interweb discussions on whether we should break rules in this case.

On Google’s end, many (or most if you will) rules exist via extensive research, which is why we designers try to follow them to a tee. But this is a rare case where I really don’t think the rule makes sense in terms of UX. Usually I don’t encourage babysitting users too much, perhaps due to the gamer mindset that I would like to explore things on my own first before looking for a guide, but for general consumer products you always have the issue that certain visual cues must be designed to create immediate impact in order to meet a business goal. 

For the particular UI I’m designing, I strongly support keeping those carets despite the Pure Android rule because I don’t want users to figure things out—attention span is short and we also have to deal with users from multiple regions that are fairly new to smartphones as a whole. Wayfinding is just so hard in some apps and while I was definitely guilty of many instances myself before, there’s always room to learn from past mistakes?

Either way, hope this matter doesn’t lead to another 3-hour debate between engineers, designers and product managers later today. Just saying. /headdesk

At last...

Official source has confirmed that as of end of October, Final Fantasy XV development has reached the point where internal staff could play it from beginning to end.

The end is at sight. Now to bring myself back in Japan again next month.
