It's dark outside and I haven't stopped crying since nine

I feel like I'm drowning, gulping down water

Desperate for air but I keep sinking lower

My body is failing and flailing and forming

Something of a monster

My throat burns and my stomach churns

No one can save you says but a whisper

And I believe it

I'm not strong enough to survive

My fingers are fragile and my back is breaking

I gasp and I splutter, my fears and my wonder

The child inside of me is terrified

There is no one to hug her

And tell her it's okay to cry and feel big things

Even when the world is in flames

Even when the air can't reach your brain

And everything you've relied on is suddenly changed

The bottom of the ocean is a cruel resting place
