coming out to my school was something i never thought i’d be able to do. i’ve spent my life fearing my peers finding out my sexuality more than anything because of the snickers and comments i’ve heard them make. but last october, after taylor’s political post, i found the courage within myself to come out to my father and it went so well and was so freeing that i knew i had to keep being honest about who i was. so, after rereading the wonderful beautiful words @taylorswift has said in support of the LGBT+ community practically everyday, i found the courage in myself to come out on instagram today for all my school to see. thanks to taylor i finally understood that there wasn’t anything wrong with loving who i love and that no one should be able to make me feel as if it’s different or weird. i deserve to love as freely as any straight person and i wouldn’t have ever had the courage to understand and embrace that while still in high school (!!!) without taylor. i literally got the post ready and then played welcome to new york and pressed send as taylor finished singing the line “you can want who you want, boys and boys and girls and girls” to feel like she was there with me; supporting me.

long story short, @taylorswift you have helped me be brave and be strong and embrace who i am and help me love the parts of myself i have resented for so many years. i will never ever be able to put how huge and important that is into words. thank you for always supporting me even though you don’t know it. i love you.
