I think it’s important to note that this hatred largely stems from trauma. While understanding that the man is shitty because he’s shitty, not because he’s a man, is a great attitude to have, it’s often difficult to reconcile a more nuanced take with traumatic experiences, particularly s*xual assault/r*pe, in which their masculinity is very much the core of the trauma.

It doesn’t make it an okay attitude to adopt, but trauma and fear is often unreasonable. Even if you’re in a space where you can adopt a more nuanced understanding and accept that yes, it’s not men that’s the issue, it was that particular man, a lot of people who have suffered that kind of trauma are often still skittish around men.

In short, when you don’t know which man is a threat, every man is a threat, and it becomes easy to hate them for that. It doesn’t make it right, but people are hurting and help and support isn’t always available.

Nobody is ‘cringe’ for not being at a state in their recovery to be able to deal with a more nuanced take, and more needs to be done to stop r*pe culture etc. to prevent these people experiencing the trauma in the first place.
