The party was already too loud when you arrived.
The clash of sweaty, overeager bodies was the first thing you registered when you walked through the front door. The effort alone made you want to groan as you attempted to wriggle your way through a few students who took up the entire walkway.
Everyone was tightly packed inside the frat house, the stench of cheap beer and weed doing little to make the scene bearable. When was the last time you attended a college party? Your nose scrunched, a cold splash of liquor hitting your arm as an oblivious student swirled around their red solo cup.
There was music blasting from nearby speakersâit was the kind of noise that caused your temples to throb, already making you regret your decision to come. Rebecca, your much more sociable friend, gave the fabric of your top a light tug to divert your attention. You only came as emotional support, of course, since partying was not exactly your scene, but you were happy to be there for your closest friend during such a rough period for her.
She recently had a messy breakup with her now ex-boyfriend, Toji, the well-known quarterback of the college football team.
Honestly, you were never a huge fan of him anyway, especially since he always wore that infuriating, lazy smirk and put up that nonchalant front.
Sure, he was a good-looking guy with his broad stature and dark hair, but that did not take away from the fact that he was a shitty boyfriend.
Hopefully, he would not make an appearance tonight during the party, which was the last thing your friend needed right now.
Inside the chaos, however, there was one presence you did not want to come across under any circumstances.
Just the thought of him was enough to make your stomach sink. He was the very reason you didnât want to come to this party in the first placeâthe one man who could get under your skin without ever having to speak a single word. Whatever disgust youâd felt for anyone else paled in comparison.
His reputation was well known throughout the campus. He was nothing short of loud, violent, and extremely unpredictable. You had heard all kinds of stories passed from person to person during these parties, one of them including how he pulverized some pledge that spilled a can of beer all over his new football jersey. It was not long after the incident that cops had shown up to the house due to the injuries he sustained. Sukuna had sent the poor guy straight to the ER, his face left unrecognizable.
Besides his violent habits, he often pursued other hobbiesâincluding fucking every pretty girl on campus and acting as if they did not exist the very next day. He was a scumbag through and through, and one you had no intention of getting close to. Just knowing that he was somewhere in this house with you made your stomach twist.
Unfortunately, you had the displeasure of meeting him once before.
It was a brief encounter, but enough for you to learn early on what kind of man he was.
âCome on, letâs go check out the bar! I heard Choso brought the good shit tonight!â Rebecca grinned, tugging you along through the dancing crowd. As you navigated through the mess of half-naked and grinding bodies, you could not help but scan around to find an escape route, or at least a quiet corner. The strobing lights and loud music were overstimulating enough; it would be nice to find a vacant couch to crash on while you sipped whatever concoction your friend was about to make you try.
After pushing through the crowd, the bar came into view. A few other students had the same idea, lingering near the safety of the counter for a break from the chaos as well.
It didnât take long to find Choso, his tired brown eyes meeting yours from across the kitchen. The dark stripe across his nose accentuated his unique features, making it easier to spot him in a crowded room like this. He made his way over to you both, two bottles of some expensive liquor he must have bought recently resting in each hand. It seemed like he recognized the look on Rebeccaâs face, his brows furrowing slightly in a silent question.
He had been a good friend of yours and Rebeccaâs since high school, even if he was not as close to you both as he used to be. It was normal for friends to grow apart, especially when you all were taking different paths in life.
But despite that, he was always there, no matter the circumstance. You were just happy the three of you got to attend the same college together.
âChoso!â Rebecca greeted, giving him her signature grin. âThanks for getting my request. It means a lot.â She beamed, reaching to take the bottles from his hands, only for him to hold them out of reach. He shook his head, the twin spiky buns atop his head shaking along with the motion. âNot yet,â he murmured. He didnât speakâhis hooded gaze lingered on hers, heavy with something unasked.
He must have been checking up on her since that nasty split with Toji.
Shifting on your feet awkwardly, you allowed them their own private moment as you opted for the cheaper booze laid out on the countertop. You grabbed one of the many scattered red solo cups, your eyes scanning for a bottle that didnât look like it would cause you to puke your guts out violently by the end of the night.
After a few minutes of searching, your eyes landed on an untouched bottle of something promising. It was a brand you had never seen before, its glass an opaque blue with faded white lettering piquing your interest. You sighed in relief, popping off the cap with ease and pouring yourself a drink.
You eyed the strong liquid, sloshing it around in the cup for a few moments before lifting it to your lips. But before you could even take a swig of the liquor in your hands, you felt a heavy presence standing nearby.
There was only one person you knew who could make the air feel dense and uncomfortable like this.
âWhat the fuck is this brat doing here?â A familiar voice boomed from behind you, making your entire body lock up.
Slowly, you turned your head to glance over your shoulder, immediately seeing the large outline of Sukunaâs shadow towering over you. You told yourself you would leave before he would ever notice you were there, but of course, fate had other fucking plans.
âAre you deaf? Or just fuckinâ stupid?â He sneered, leaning closer to you with that damn look in his crimson eyes. The black tattoos decorating his face seemed to glow under the strobing lights, a beautiful illusion if it were not for the fact that you hated this bastard with every fiber of your being.
To his left stood a pretty blonde pressed up against him, another sorority girl he must have picked up tonight. Everyone knew he brought a different girl to every party, and each one thought they would be special enough to stay past a meaningless hookup.
âI can hear you just fine.â The words snapped out of you as you took a step back, putting some precious distance between the two of you. A frustrated sigh left your nose, trying to calm yourself down. You had to remind yourself that you couldnât let him rile you up right now, especially since you were here for Rebecca; that was all you needed to focus on!
A pause hit you, ignoring whatever words were leaving Sukunaâs lips as your eyes darted around the crowded house. How the hell did she disappear so quickly? She was right next to you speaking with Choso a few seconds ago!
But Sukunaâs voice shattered your train of thought, his lips curled back in that signature snarl when he realized you were not listening to him. âIâm fucking talking to you, woman. Arenât you that friend of Tojiâs bitch?â He asked crudely, his ringed hand resting on the blonde girl's ass.
The muscles around your eye twitched at his question. What the fuck did he just say? Who raised this asshole?
âWatch your fucking mouth.â You snapped back without thinking, immediately regretting your words as you felt the temperature of the room drop by ten degrees.
Normally, no one would challenge Sukuna as you did.
Sukuna watched you, his eyes narrowing as if he did not expect those words to come out of your mouth. The look of calculation quickly vanished into one of cruel amusement, smirking down at your uncomfortable expression. âYou think youâre tough now?â He spoke, his voice drawling. He didnât seem angry yet, but rather entertained by your audacity.
Your lips parted to defend yourself, but you were thankfully saved when Choso entered the scene. His tired brown eyes met yours, seeming to be aware of the tension simmering between you and the absolute menace standing in front of you.
He nodded in acknowledgement to his frat brother, holding out a freshly opened bottle of beer to Sukuna, who wordlessly snatched it and drank it in a few furious gulps. He slammed the bottle on the counter without breaking eye contact, leaning forward and towering over you. âYouâre in my fuckinâ house, woman. Remember that.â He snarled, making everyone around you shift uncomfortably. As he spoke, your attention briefly flickered over to the tipsy girl, seeing how she pressed her cheek into the hard planes of his chest despite his movement.
He was known for throwing people out if they pissed him off during parties, and a part of you wanted to dare him to try. Was it the second-hand high making you bold suddenly?
Straightening, you glared back into his fiery red eyes as your knuckles clenched. For a moment, it almost seemed as if he was excited by your defiance, his mouth now pulled into a menacing grin that exposed his sharp canines. Your heart was pounding in your ears, the adrenaline making the bass of the music a distant noise. âYou think I give a fuck whose house this is? You goddamn piece ofââ
âHey! Isnât that Rebecca?â A voice in the crowd inquired, snapping you out of your adrenaline-fueled rage and diverting your attention. You squinted, finding it difficult to see with the pulsing lights obscuring your vision. You finally spotted Rebecca walking in your direction and away from a familiar figure, barely able to make out a fresh track of tears streaming down her cheeks the closer she approached.
You narrowed your eyes more, attempting to make out the broad back of the man she was walking away from. He had shaggy black hair and a build like Sukunaâs, only not as tall. Once you had a clearer sight of him, your eyes widened slightly in realization.
You quickly left the scene, not bothering to deal with Sukuna anymore as you weaved through the crowd and approached your upset friend.
The stench of each person was sobering to your senses. Just how long had everyone been dancing? Was deodorant a foreign concept to the partygoers of this fraternity?
Once you settled in front of her, you reached up and gently rested your hands on her shoulders, your eyes meeting her tear-filled ones. âHey,â you began worriedly, âDid you speak to him?â
You didnât want to pry too much during such a sensitive moment, especially since she told you that she hadnât spoken to him since their split. This mustâve been hard enough for her as it is.
She sniffled, her bottom lip trembling in a way that spoke volumes. âSpeak?â She hiccupped, sending a glare over her shoulder at the indifferent man who had his back turned to her. He was now talking to some wide-eyed sorority girl, as if he couldnât care less that his ex-girlfriend just witnessed the scene. âYeah, guess you could say that. Iâm glad I dumped that asshole.â She spat, the bitterness in her voice a palpable thing.
As if sensing both of your glares, he turned his head ever so slightly to meet your gazes.
Tojiâs lips twitched into a sly smirk, the scar on the corner of his mouth pulling taut at the gesture. It was hard to see his expression beneath his tousled hair, but you could tell there was not an ounce of pity in those dark eyes of his.
He really didnât care, did he?
You exhaled through your nose sharply from irritation, giving your friendâs shoulder a gentle squeeze to ground her focus on you rather than her smug asshole of an ex lounging behind her. âDonât pay attention to him, okay?â You offered a soft smile, the sound of yelling in the background now impossible to ignore as crashing began to follow suit. Was someone getting into a fight already? âIf you want to leave, we can.â You reassured her, not wanting her to feel as if you both had to stay for your sake.
If anything, you wanted to leave since the lingering anxiety of the earlier encounter with Sukuna was still rippling through you. You didnât want to come across him again; he seemed much more dangerous than the rumors said. His aura alone was enough for someone to think twice about even looking at him wrong.
But Rebecca seemed playfully offended at your proposition, giving you a cheeky smile despite the glossiness of her eyes. âNo! Weâre here to party, Iâm not letting some douchebag ruin our fun.â She grinned, her hand now grabbing yours as she pulled you deeper into the crowd towards a smaller crowd of students lounging on the floor. It was a growing group, everyone either perched on the large couch, the floor, or in each otherâs laps if there was no more available space.
You allowed yourself to be dragged over to the coffee table at the heart of the living room, sitting down beside her and relaxing your stiff shoulders. You could feel the tension beginning to drain out of your body now that you werenât being shoved and pushed around on the dance floor; you much preferred this spot more than anywhere else in this damn frat house.
As you began to relax, you took the opportunity to finally analyze the people lounging around you, taking in their features, and trying to gauge just how drunk they were. As you scanned, you paused on one student you recognizedâGojo, the white-haired pretty boy who always wore that big grin on his face. His tall body was lazily sprawled out on the chair, his arm resting on the back of the cushion as if he couldnât care less about how much space he occupied.Â
A man with long black hair and bangs sat beside him, a calm smile adorning his lips as a blunt rested between his forefingers. He seemed to be used to the behavior from the white-haired man beside him. You had heard his name once beforeâGetoâGojoâs closest friend and confidant.
The two were a pair, you donât think you have ever seen them apart from each other.
There were suspicions that the two were together, but neither of them had ever addressed the rumors. In fact, it seemed like they entertained them with dramatic and cheesy declarations of their undying love for one another to get a few laughs. Â
But you had never spoken to either of them directly, they tended to lounge around on the couch or wind up in the middle of a drinking contest, there was no in-between.
Across from them, Sukuna held dominion from his usual throne on the upper arm of the leather couchâone tattooed leg kicked out wide, the other bent with his boot propped up on the coffee table. The table was littered with crushed cans and half-smoked roaches, adding to the mess of the chaotic party.
He was somehow shirtless again, exposing the intricate tattoos decorating his tan skin on the expanse of his chest. He ran his fingers through his hair to push the bangs out of his face, exposing his sharp red eyes and strong nose. He then snatched a fresh bottle of Jack, gripping it loosely in one ring-heavy hand while the other remained lazily wrapped around a different girl than the one he was with previously. This one had dark brown hair rather than the blonde from earlier.
Did he already cycle through his groupies? You wondered, a flash of irritation coloring your features.
But as you were judging him, you failed to realize he was staring directly at you.
You lifted your eyes, your body freezing when you saw that infuriating smirk gracing his lips. Had he been watching you this whole time?
Apparently, he took that as his cue to start a conversation.
âSee somethinâ you like, brat?â He mocked, his thick brows furrowing as if contemplating something before giving a dismissive nod of his head. His pink hair was more tousled than usual, seeming to glow beneath the strobing lights. The brunette was idly tracing his muscular shoulder with one manicured finger; her brown eyes fixed on you briefly as he acknowledged you. âIâll pass. You ainât my type.â He sneered as his large hand squeezed the ass of the girl lying against him, earning a high-pitched giggle. She leaned more into him, too infatuated with his features and the fact that she was chosen by Ryomen Sukuna to care about anything else.
For a moment, you didnât know how to respond before an incredulous mix of infuriation flooded through your veins.Â
The goddamn audacity of this guy knew no bounds.Â
You felt your jaw clench, nearly throwing one of the discarded beer cans on the table at his smug face.
âDonât listen to him,â your friend murmured, saving you from being thrown out of the party as you took another swig from your cup. You would need to be a lot more intoxicated to tolerate him for a few more hours. Sukuna, on the other hand, seemed delighted at your visceral anger.
Choso eventually joined you both on the floor, his expression neutral as if he was used to the tension in the air. How was he able to deal with living in the same space as that bastard? âHow are your classes going? Heard you were swamped.â Choso asked, the exhaustion in his eyes evident as he leaned back on his palm. His other hand was occupied with a cup now, his blunt mustâve been discarded when he disappeared earlier.
âClasses are fine, itâs just the teachers that are a pain in the ass.â You sighed, setting your drink down on the table. Rebecca lazily rested her head on your shoulder, her eyes staring at the cup you just discarded. You could see Choso in your peripheral watching her, slowly confirming your suspicions about them but you remained silent. âWhat about you two?â
Rebecca groaned, pressing her face deeper into your shirt as she reached for the cup you put down instead. She brought it to her lips, sipping the alcohol with an expression of pure disdain. âDonât even get me started.â
While Choso and Rebecca went on about their struggles, you could not help but sense that someoneâs gaze was burning into the side of your face. You could practically feel a pair of eyes watching you intensely, you did not even have to look over to know who it was.
Keeping your expression neutral, you looked past the clutter atop the carpet you were sitting on. The patterns were smudged due to the mystery substances and the many drink spills from the parties over the years, leaving the original color a mystery.
Maybe you should spend the next few minutes trying to guess the color until that red-eyed devil looked away from you.
But would that work? Of course not.
It seemed like his menacing grin grew wider, as if your unease and deliberate attempt to not look in his direction amused him. The girl lying against his side seemed to realize his attention was elsewhere when he was quiet for a long while, making her bottom lip jut out.
ââKuna, letâs go upstairs.â She whined, her manicured finger gliding along his tattooed bicep. He did not seem to be paying much attention; his eyes still trained on you. âShut up.â He dismissed bluntly, finally yanking his arm away from her grasp and standing up off the couch.
You felt a sheen layer of sweat form at your temples as you stared forward, Choso and Rebeccaâs conversation muffled as you internally panicked. Was he seriously walking over to you right now? You did not dare look over, his approaching form getting closer in your peripheral vision.
There was no time to plan a proper escape route, because the next thing you knew, Sukuna sat down right next to you.
You slowly turned your head, your eyes finally meeting his as he seemed to lean closerâpurposely invading your space. His shoulder was now pressed against yours, the grin on his lips the same as when he was across the room.
When he was this close, you expected the cloying sting of Axe body spray to hit your nose. Instead, a mix of cedar and smoke wafted off himâunexpected, but not unpleasant. You brushed the thought off as quickly as it came, what the hell were you thinking?
âWhat do you want? It feels like you have been eye-fucking me for the past ten minutes.â you asked impatiently, analyzing his expression to see some sort of crack in his composure.
The conversation between the two of your friends seemed to have died down when they realized who invaded the peaceful little bubble. Sukuna didnât seem to notice, or maybe he just did not care.
He lifted his arm, scratching his jaw lazily. âNah, I already told you that you ainât my type.â He drawled, giving you a lazy shrug as he kept his eyes on your face. You could practically feel him take in your features, his hand reaching over and plucking the cup from your grip.
You watched as he brought the drink to his lips, taking a slow sip of the liquid without breaking eye contact. The irritated scowl on your face deepened noticeably, moving back when he finished and held it back out to you as if expecting you to take it after him.
âI donât know where your mouth has been.â You hissed, making his eyes flash with something close to annoyance.
Sukuna scoffed, as if your valid concerns were stupid. âIâm cleaner than you, damn brat.â He said as he finished the last of the drink, setting it on the table with a harsh thud. He rested back on his palms, his shoulder resuming its lean on yours.
You could feel your teeth grinding as your jaw clenched. Was there really nothing better he could be doing right now?
You caught the jealous glare of the sorority girl he abandoned in the chair, making you want to desperately beg for her to come rescue you. Did she think you wanted this psychopath to invade your personal space? You tried to think of subtle ways to signal for help, for something to get Sukuna away from you.
Eventually, your phone became your safest distraction as you fished it out of your pocket. You made sure to turn your brightness down, proceeding to scroll through your recommended page on any social media app you found first. It helped for a few minutes while your friends chatted away, relieved that Sukuna wasnât speaking anymore despite his closeness.
âYou find shit like that funny?â
It didnât help that he was still pressed against your side, easily peering over and watching your screen with a look of boredom.
âCan I help you?â You asked through gritted teeth, turning off your phone so he could not watch your screen anymore. It was clear that turning the brightness down had been pointless.
He was unfazed, his eyes flicking from the black screen to meet yours. There was another crash coming from the kitchen, but his attention stayed focused on you.
âYâknow, you never answered me earlier,â he drawled, rubbing his chin as his cruel red eyes finally shifted and stared at the party scene before him. âYou are Rebeccaâs friend, right?â This time, he left out the unnecessary descriptor he used earlier, but something told you this did not mean he was going to be polite.
For a moment, you hesitated.Â
Rebecca and Choso seemed to be in their own worlds, continuing to stay oblivious to the absolute menace sitting directly beside you.Â
âYes,â you started, suspicion evident in your tone. âWhy are you asking?â You were impatient now, wondering why he was so curious to know.
Sukuna seemed unbothered by your tone, shrugging his shoulders as he turned his head to watch a pair of pledges stumble too close. His stare alone made them freeze and quickly change their direction.
âI didnât even know he had a girl. Never mentioned her name once.â
His words surprised you, his own frat brother didnât know he had a girlfriend? They dated for almost a year! You watched him expectantly, waiting for him to elaborate.
Sukuna noticed, his shoulders lifting in an easy, unconcerned motion. âGuyâs been running through half the campus since last semester. Your friend just figured it out late.â
The expression on your face must have been hilarious to him, because he snorted at the genuine rage decorating your features. Toji was such a fucking asshole!
He leaned in closer, his lips almost brushing your ear. âSheâs cute when sheâs crying,â he began, his voice low and amused. âBet thatâs why he kept her around so long.â He watched the side of your face with a feral intensity, as if deliberately gauging how far he could push you.
For a moment, it seemed as if the room around you went silent.Â
Mouths were moving, but no words were reaching your ears as a distant buzzing grew louder and louder in your eardrums.
Adrenaline began to surge through your body, your vision blurring with a rage that almost seemed foreign to you.
Then, your fist connected with his jaw. Hard.
It wasnât an idle slapâit was a sharp, brutal crack of your knuckles against bone that made his head snap to the side without warning.
Sukuna went still, and so did everyone else around you.
The music continued, a muffled counterpoint to what just happened. His gaze remained fixed in the direction your punch had sent him before he slowly began to turn back to face you. Your heart slammed in your chest, genuine fear curling in your stomach when his eyes met yours.
Blood streamed from his nose, slicking his upper lip before dripping from his chin and splattering onto the floor. He did not bother wiping it away. If anything, he leaned closer as his eyes gleamed manically. âIs that all you fuckinâ got, woman?â He tauntedâalmost hopefulâlike he wanted you to hit him again.
The fear vanished, drowned out by a violent rush of rage that left your hands shaking with the urge to do far worse than you already had.
But before you could act on your impulses, the tension was broken up by his frat brothers who rushed over to the scene.Â
Gojo seemed to glide seamlessly between the two of you without a momentâs notice. He gave a cocky smile, resting a slender hand atop Sukunaâs shoulder. âCalm down, you gonna let some chick get you all riled up?â He clicked his tongue, shaking his head. âThought you were better than that, big guy.â
At this point, it seemed as if he was purposely taunting a raging bull. How the hell was that supposed to de-escalate the situation? Your panic worsened, your eyes actively searching for an escape route.
Sukuna gritted his teeth, his canines flashing as he shoved Gojoâs hand off his shoulder and stepped even closer to himânearly towering over the smug frat brother. He didnât say anything yet, only holding eye contact with unnerving stillness.
Oh shit. Was there going to be a brawl?
Thankfully, Geto took that as his cue and stepped in as well. He wore a calm smile, giving you a subtle wave once you made eye contact as if telling you to leave while he sorted the two out the best he could.
You nodded, relieved for their distraction as you nearly stumbled making a run for the backdoor. Who knew how long it would be until that pink-haired menace finally realized you were missing? You took a risk and glanced over your shoulder, regretting your decision instantly.
His eyes met yours through the crowd, a new feral intensity reflecting in them.
Crazy wasnât even close to describing the scene behind you, the blood on his chin now dried into a thin crust and his pupils noticeably dilated. He looked as if he were about to bulldoze through the small crowd and snatch you right then and there.
You did not look back again, quickening your pace as the shouts were growing louder behind you.
The bass of the music was deeper the further you went into the house, navigating through the crowds quickly to try and find your friends and the exit.
As you ran, you finally bumped into Rebeccaâtoo stressed to apologize or explain as her eyes widened at your disheveled state. She did not ask any questions, immediately recognizing that look on your face as she grasped your hand in hers and guided you. She did not care, bumping forcibly into strangers and making a path until you both finally made it outside.
The second you were out on that balcony you let out a groan of relief, the cool air sobering you up after that punch. Your friend missed nothing, her eyes wide with concern once she noticed your bloodied hand before yanking you closer. âWhat the hell happened to your hand? Youâre bleeding!â
The ache finally hit your knuckles; just how hard did you hit him?
You met Rebeccaâs expectant stare, her eyes wide with impatience when you did not immediately give her an answer.
âI punched Sukuna!â You blurted, offering her a nervous smile when she had a dumbfounded look adorning her face. At first, she thought you were jokingâa disbelieving laugh escaping her as she shook her head. Once she registered that you were in fact serious, she froze in horror.Â
The smile fell from her lips, looking around the property like she was terrified Sukuna was lurking around the bushes and would pop out at any given moment. âDo you have a damn death wish? You are so fucked!â She scolded in a low hiss, gesturing for you to follow her once more as the two of you bolted from the yard. During your escape, the sound of crashing inside the house grew louder
There was most definitely a fight.
It was only supposed to be a ten-minute walk from the frat house to your apartmentâbut it was going to be less than five considering you were sprinting like your life depended on it.
Both of you made it to the front door of your place, looking as if you ran a marathon as you rested your hands on your knees. Laughter burst from your lips, Rebecca laughing as well through exhausted breathing as you realized how ridiculous this scene may have appeared to onlookers.
âYâYou⌠seriously punched Sukuna?â She asked breathlessly, still processing that information while she dug through her pockets to find her keys. You watched her through your lashes, giving her a lazy smile. âYeah, he deserved it.â
You decided not to go into detail regarding the hurtful things he had said about her that caused such a visceral reaction in the first place, especially since Rebecca was dealing with enough.
Eventually, Rebecca found her keys and successfully pushed it into the lock.
Once the two of you entered inside, she shut the door and breathed out a sigh of relief.
âI fucking stink. I am going to go wash off and pass out, you good for the night?â
You blinked, a huff of laughter leaving your lips as you shook your head. Your nerves had already calmed down significantly being back in your space, all you needed to do was wash off as well and pray that you never stumbled across Sukuna again.
âNo, I am all good. Get some rest.â You trudged over to the kitchen counter and flicked on one of the dimmer lights. You needed some visibility to clean the blood off your knuckles and make sure there werenât any cuts.
Rebeccaâs yawn briefly distracted your thoughts, hearing her footsteps echo as she walked over to her bedroom. âMâkay, fighter girl. Sleep tight.â
Her door clicked shut while you rummaged through the cabinets, eventually finding the antiseptic wipes and some Band-Aids neither of you had touched in months. It wasnât very often you found yourselves in a predicament like this.
Your shoes dragged along the tiles as you walked over to the sink, twisting the faucet and tearing off the corner of the antiseptic packaging. You scrunched your face when the sting of alcohol hit your nose, an unpleasant distraction while you were waiting for the running water to warm up.
The sound of the rushing water drowned out your thoughts momentarily, your mind drifting off to the next day. Sukuna wouldnât be too upset, would he? Surely, he would forget this whole ordeal.
But a part of you knew you were so fucking wrong.
Sukuna, as psychotic and impulsive as he was, possessed an unsettling level of intelligence.
You knew he did not forget easily, even if he pretended. Your memory flashed briefly to your first encounter at your first college party, recalling the last time someone tried to cause a ruckus at his party. You vividly remembered that feral look in his eyes when he crossed paths with a man who had been known to be a huge problem during frat parties. The man had been banned from multiple parties, but for some reason believed it would be a good idea to sneak into Sukunaâs.
But what really scared you the most was how quickly he recognized the man despite it being months later.
It wasnât as if Sukuna glanced over at him throughout the party and put pieces together. It was almost immediate.
You even remembered the smile on Sukunaâs face, similar to the one he gave you after you punched him. But somehow, the expression he wore was even more disturbing.
Steam began to rise as the water climbed higher in the sink, making you finally snap out of it and quickly run your knuckles beneath the water. A hiss escaped your lips, furrowing your brows in focus while you gently rubbed the crusted blood from your skin.
The pinkish water pooled into the drain, your gaze following the lazy swirls for a moment to drown out the burning sensation. Once your hand was clean, you cut the faucet off and dried your hand.
It felt like a damn chore, you were already barely able to keep your eyes open as you grabbed the disinfectant wipe. You lightly tapped it over the small cuts, wincing but managing to tough it out until you finally grabbed the box of Band-Aids.
You rummaged through them, pulling out a particularly unique one that had a picture of a doodled cat wearing glasses, giving you a thumbs up gesture.
A snort escaped you at the absurdity of the design before you finally peeled back the film and placed it atop your knuckles. You took a few moments to admire your handiwork, finally looking away and making sure to clean up your space.
The short walk to your bedroom felt like a damn mile.
Your feet were practically dragging on the floor by the time you made it inside, groaning at the thought of having to take a shower. Your journey continued onto the connecting bathroom, flicking on the lights to see better.
After rummaging through your drawers and wrapping a protective layer of saran wrap around your Band-Aid, you finally stepped into the shower and turned the faucet. You let out a sigh, the sensation of all the grime and sweat from the earlier party washing off your body feeling euphoric.
Your head lowered, glancing down at your feet while the water pooled down the drain. You scrubbed and cleansed the rest of the dirt, allowing the soap lathering your body to wash away the lingering dread.
Once you finished showering, you dressed into your favorite pair of pajamas and plopped face-down onto your bedâan exhausted groan leaving you. Finally.
But at the corner of your room, the chime of your phone was going off constantly. Who was messaging you right now?
The thought was distant, you wanted nothing more than to sleep everything off and deal with whatever consequences there were tomorrow.
You finally shut your eyes, drifting off into a much-needed sleep as your phone dinged in the distance. The buzzing faded more into the background, no longer a distraction.
But there was a part of your brain that could not stop replaying the crazed look in Sukunaâs eyes even as your mind drifted off. Why did he look like that after you knocked him in the jaw?
