Vampires will burn and turn to ash if exposed to the sunlight. They have a few moments to escape it if caught outside, but they will experience extreme pain and lasting burns. They can, however, obtain talismans from witches to allow them to daywalk. However most witches are not very generous towards vampires, and very few vampires are in possession of such a thing.
Vampires’ fangs only appear at will. Otherwise they look normal, if not abnormally pale.
Vampires require blood to survive. How much they drink of a human depends entirely on their age, self control, and morals. Many vampires are sated with just a few ounces, whereas others prefer to completely drain a victim.
Animal blood CAN be consumed but it will eventually make the vampire consuming it very ill, and weak. Human blood is far superior.
Fae and demon blood are both powerful drugs for vampires, though it can be risky for them to obtain or consume, many addicts will go to greath lengths to have it.
To the same merit, vampire blood is a powerful drug to humans, and with vampires “out” there is a fast growing black market for the “drug”. In humans it causes hallucinogenic effects, as well as acting as a powerful aphrodisiac. It also numbs pain temporarily, making it nearly as dangerous as opioids.
To be turned the process is remarkably simple. A human is fed vampire blood, and nearly instantly killed. The effects and potency of the vampire blood within the system begin to wear off after approximately 12 hours. Any death that occurs after this mark will not result in vampirism.
A maker (or sire) is strongly connected to their progeny, a bond that is similar yet more intense than that of a mother and her child. While this is so, it is common practice for many makers and their progenies & fledgelings will have romantic and sexual relationships. A progeny is unable to kill their maker. No matter how they try, they themselves are not physically capable of doing so.
Vampires can be killed by sunlight, decapitation, immolation, and staking through their hearts with a weapon made entirely of wood. They can be harmed greatly by holy water, strong covens, lycan bites and blessed items. Most wounds can be recovered from, but the severity of the pain and length of recovery depends entirely upon the type of wound. Other things such as gunshots, stabbings, strangulation and the like will not kill the vampire. A vampire shot in the head will black out for approximately an hour, and wake up healed and quite cross
Vampires cannot enter a private residence without direct invitation. Public spaces are fine, and once a vampire has been invited in they may return as often as they like until their invitation is revoked. They are able to enter private property owned by other vampires without permission, however, as the owner is legally dead.
Vampires have no reflection in mirrors, and do not show up in classic silver and lead based film. They can be seen in modern photography, however -- a fact many vampires are quite enthused about.
Vampires who have been turned for more than 10 years will develop the ability to turn into a bat or swarm of bats at will. A small gift from their demonic creators. A much older vampire can even choose to take the form of a dark mist or shadow rather than a bat.
Vampires possess super speed, enhanced strength, heightened senses and the power of compulsion.
Compulsion requires eye contact and a direct command to be spoken. This works best on humans, however most humans with fae blood are immune to compulsion. Witches often have protected themselves with spells to avoid being victim to it, and lycans are naturally immune. Compulsion has some hard limits -- often it is used to keep victims from screaming while feeding.
Vampires are able to perform sexually so long as they are regularly feeding. They also have higher endurance and make excellent lovers.
Many vampires consume alcohol regularly as it gives them the sensation of being “warm” to the touch. This is especially helpful before sexual encounters with those they do not wish their nature to be revealed to.
Refusal to feed for more than 20 years will wither them into a dusty corpse, but they will still be alive and conscious inside their own minds. Only being fed blood will restore them, but madness will easily have taken hold by then. Some vampires have been entombed for over a century and when unearthed and fed, have become crazed monsters, slaughtering all that they find.
A vampire over 200 years old often has developed the ability to fly & hover without being in the form of a bat. However it was not a widely used skill until the last two years when vampires revealed themselves to the world.
Vampires cannot consume human food. It will cause them extreme discomfort and must be vomited up as their digestive system no longer operates.
Vampires will become violently ill if they feed on the blood of dead humans. It is practically poison to them, and is incredibly difficult to recover from. If a victim dies while feeding, the blood is still viable for only an hour past death.
Vampire hair and nails continue to grow as normal, despite their state of death. When they cry, the tears are made of blood.
Vampires have no need for air, though many still go through the motions of breathing simply out of habit. Their hearts still beat, though it is slowly. Around 20 BPM giving them the illusion of having no heartbeat. However this small motion keeps their own blood circulating.
Vampires MUST sleep, and many do actually sleep in coffins to prevent any sun related accidents. A vampire who does not rest for more than a week will become greatly weakened and need to go into hiding to recover.
Vampires on the whole are exceedingly alluring and appealing to humans. They have a natural aura of enchantment about them that makes them desirable. Other species do not necessarily fall prey to this charm, however.
The oldest vampires allowed here are 2,000. However older vampires can easily exist, it is our goal to keep things relatively within the BC era.
Vampires can live eternally if feeding enough and not killed by others. Though madness has certainly proven a grave threat to their psyche. It must be remembered these are HUMANS who have been turned. They are not demons, and as such their minds are fragile and can easily deteriorate over time.
It is considered cruel and taboo to turn a child, or anyone who is not fully formed into an adult. Whether the victim is willing or not, those found to be turning children are considered the most vile of vampires.
Drinking the blood of another vampire who willingly offers is the most intimate possible act, it creates a bond only surpassed by maker/progeny. Memories and emotions can be shared, as if allowing the other to see your deepest darkest secrets and desires. Doing this without consent is very much tantamount to r*pe.
Since coming out two years ago there are vampire only bars, clubs, etc. There are usually humans there who willingly offer themselves to be fed on. Fangbangers can carry disease however, so be safe. While most vampires are immune to all illness, there are some blood diseases that even vampires can contract and carry.
There are just as many anti-vampire establishments as there are ones embracing them. It is common to find “no vamps” signs hanging in doorways of clubs, restaurants, stores and bars.
A blood substitute is being developed. but is not widely accepted as an idea.
There is a vampire Queen, her location is unknown to everyone beyond her court. She is the oldest known living vampire and any vampire who is caught committing crimes against its own kind will be taken before her to be tried. Most vampires aren’t even aware of her, only the older ones. Her emissaries are everywhere, however, and with vampires now in the public eye, the ranks of vampire court are beginning to cohese. She has sent some of her high ranking council members out to certain major cities to see to the affairs of their kind.
