You don’t want to feel guilty, but you can’t help it every time you glance down at the Louis Vuitton bag that’s resting on your lap.

Leon’s driving. His left hand is on the steering wheel, and his right resting on your thigh, absentmindedly caressing it.

You look at him. His lips are slightly curved upward, and that only makes you feel even guiltier about how much he’s spoiling you.

You definitely shouldn’t have suggested doing that TikTok trend.

Leon briefly shifts his gaze from the road and smiles a little wider.

“What’s wrong, love?” he asks calmly, a faint teasing tone in his voice.

“You didn’t have to buy me anything…” you murmur, biting your lip.

“I thought we already talked about that.”

“I’m being serious, Leon,” you run your fingers timidly along the edge of the bag, as if you don’t deserve that $785 purse (on sale) he just bought you. “It’s beautiful, and I really love it, but… it’s too much.”

He takes advantage of the red light and turns to look at you.

“It’s your birthday.”

“It’s not my birthday. It’s next week,” you correct him.

“It’s an early birthday gift,” he counters.

You grumble under your breath, shaking your head.

“That’s not making things better, you know.”

“Oh, trust me, they are.”

The light turns green and he starts driving again.

You don’t want to argue, but…

“I feel way too spoiled,” you finally admit.

He gently squeezes your thigh.

You know he’s trying to reassure you. Trying to keep you from overthinking.

“And yes, I spoil you. I like spoiling you,” he replies casually.

You huff.

“Wow. Thanks.”

“I just want you to be happy. And yeah, I know it’d be more than enough for you if it was just me being… me, but if I can afford stuff you want… Why not?”

As he keeps talking, you realize you’re not taking the usual route home.

A few minutes pass before it fully sinks in.

You’re definitely not coming back home.

“Leon…?”

“Hmmm? You okay, love?”

“Aren’t we going home…?”

“Where’d you get that idea? I don’t remember saying we were going straight home after buying your bag…”

You narrow your eyes at him, suspicious. You know that look. He’s up to something.

“Leon.”

He doesn’t answer. 

He just smiles. Way too much.

He pulls into a parking lot. In front of you, there’s a brightly lit storefront with LED lights, rows of computers and monitors, and a bunch of video game posters.

“What exactly are we doing at a computer store…?” you ask as he turns off the engine.

Leon unbuckles his seatbelt as if he hasn’t heard you.

“Oh. We had one more stop before heading home. I thought I told you…”

“Leon. Leon!”

He ignores you.

He gets out quickly, walks around to your side, opens the door for you and he offers his hand to help you. Then, he offers his arm so you can hold onto it as you walk toward the entrance.

“Leon Scott Kennedy…”

“Yeah?” he asks innocently, opening the door for you and placing his hand on your waist as you step inside.

“Why are we here?”

“I ordered something,” he says, lowering his voice again. There’s that mystery tone. “I had to pick it up today. Why you asking?”

Your eyes go wide.

You know exactly what he means.

Oh God, he didn’t—

“No,” is all you manage to say.

He smiles, squeezing your waist before pressing a kiss to your forehead.

“Leon…”

“Relax.”

“How am I supposed to relax?”

While you’re waiting at the counter, he leans closer to you.

“You’ve been talking about this for about a year. And, since, you’re always saying you don’t deserve anything, even though you take your time saving money… maybe I should be the one to give you this. You deserve it.”

You know exactly what he’s referring to.

The fucking gaming PC.

“Leon, for God’s sake…”

A young guy about your age appears behind the counter, smiling widely at you the moment he sees you. Leon clears his throat the second he notices the way the guy looks you up and down, practically devouring you with his eyes.

The young man flushes and quickly redirects his attention to Leon.

“Mr. Kennedy… right?”

Leon nods politely.

“Great... We have your order ready.”

Leon nods again, but you can’t stop yourself from getting nervous.

“Leon…” you whisper shyly, squeezing his hand tightly.

“If you excuse me for a moment, I’ll go grab the package,” the guy tells Leon, shyly and nervous.

You see him disappear into the back room before turning to your boyfriend.

“You’ve been working hard,” Leon says quietly, as if he needs to justify all of this.

“No. Don’t start with that, Leon. Don’t make excuses…” you shake your head.

“You never let yourself have nice things because you’re too busy saving. And, also, because you think you don’t deserve them…” he continues calmly.

“Leon, I do treat myself sometimes. I bought a suit for the office the other day,” you argue.

“Only because the old one ripped when you fell outside the subway. Because you insisted you didn’t need me to pick you up… even though it was pouring.”

You sigh.

He’s right, but…

Neither of you says anything else because the employee returns, now carrying a large black box.

A very large box.

You recognize the logo instantly.

It’s the same gaming PC you showed Leon about two, maybe three, months ago. The same one you’ve had bookmarked for nearly a year. The one you check almost daily, hoping that by some miracle there’ll be a discount big enough for you to finally afford it.

You turn toward Leon. 

He’s watching as the guy makes sure the box is intact, opening it to check that all the components are inside. He asks Leon to come closer so he can explain everything included in the package, which is quite a lot.

You stay where you are, staring at the box, reading the specifications.

It’s not a similar model. Not a slightly different one.

It’s exactly the one you wanted.

You’d even swear some of the components are better than the ones you had planned to get… someday. Maybe never.

“You told me you liked that tempered glass panel, right?” Leon says, coming back to you, his eyes still on the guy. “It’s also got really good cooling, and they say it has plenty of memory. Oh, and the graphics card or whatever that’s called is supposed to be pretty great, too…”

“Have you been researching?” you ask, a little nervous.

“A bit, yeah.”

A bit?

“Leon… this costs a lot. At least… a thousand dollars. Probably more…”

He shrugs.

“Exactly what my girl deserves. Isn’t this the one you wanted?”

“Yeah, but… You also got me the Louis Vuitton bag, and—”

“And?”

“It’s crazy, Leon. You’re fucking crazy.”

“I might be, yeah. But you deserve it. All of this, and a lot more than that.”

“I have you, Leon.” You step closer and press a kiss to his cheek. “That’s more than enough for me.”

After talking with the employee for a few more minutes, Leon pulls his wallet from his back pocket and runs his credit card through the machine.

“Perfect, Mr. Kennedy, I hope you enjoy—”

“My girlfriend,” Leon interrupts, wrapping his arm more firmly around your waist. “It’s for my girlfriend.”

The guy turns bright red, mortified.

“Well, then…”

Leon steps forward, lifts the box effortlessly into his arms, thanks the guy, and walks out of the store whistling one of his favorite songs.

You thank the employee too with a shy smile before following Leon, lagging a little behind.

You try not to get distracted, but the sight of his arms flexed under his shirt, the muscles straining as he carries the box.

And not to mention his ass…

“God, this is totally worth it for my girl…” he says, glancing back at you. You quicken your pace until you’re beside him. “You don’t know how much I love seeing you this happy.”

“You’d already bought me the bag, Leon. That was more than enough…” you insists, feeling so, so bad.

“I told you: I just want to see you happy, you know? It’s your birthday. It just happens once a year,” he says, placing the box in the trunk of his Porsche. Then, he walks around and opens the passenger door for you again, offering his hand. “And if what makes you happy is carrying an exclusive designer bag to work, or yelling at a screen because you keep getting killed in a game, or because you can’t platinum whatever game it is…”

“God, Leon, you don’t even know what platinum means.”

“No. But you’re going to teach me,” he says as he starts the car, his hand settling back onto your thigh.

The drive home feels short, and before you realize it, you’re already in the home office you share.

Leon sets the box on your now completely cleared desk as if it’s nothing.

Then, he grabs his glasses, puts them on, and starts carefully opening the box and starting to read what seems to be the instructions.

“Leon…” you say, walking up behind him and running a hand over his shoulder. “You don’t have to set it up right now, really, love...”

“Of course I do. You haven’t stopped smiling since that guy brought the box out.”

“He was very nice,” you protest, kissing his cheek. “He was just doing his job.”

“I don’t think flirting with girls, especially ones who have boyfriends, is in his job description, but if that’s what you think…”

You huff and roll your eyes.

Then you glance toward the left side of the room and freeze.

Next to his desk is a gaming chair you’ve definitely never seen before.

Another item that’s been sitting in your Amazon cart… but that you never bought.

And, apparently, Leon did.

You look at him slowly, biting your lower lip.

He glances at you out of the corner of his eye and tries not to laugh.

“You said your back hurt when you worked from home,” he mutters, taking the components out of the box.

“And that means you have to buy me a gaming chair?”

“It’s ergonomic. And it’s very… aesthetic. Or whatever you call it when something looks nice.”

“Leon.”

He takes off his glasses, turns around, and leans back against the desk, crossing his arms. You notice that, despite being older than you, he can’t help blushing slightly.

“It’s important,” he says defensively. “Posture, I mean. Though I guess we could use the chair for other things, like—”

“This is ridiculous…”

It really is.

But you can’t stop smiling.

“Look at you. For someone who says you’re too spoiled and that this is ridiculous, your words, not mine, you can’t stop smiling.”

“You’ve lost your mind, honestly.”

He doesn’t answer, just goes back to assembling everything.

You don’t know how he does it, but slowly, piece by piece, the mess of components turns into something that actually resembles a computer.

“Didn’t you think about buying it already built?” you ask, sitting in his desk chair.

“Your friend from the store offered,” he says honestly, not looking away from what he’s doing. His tongue peeks out slightly as he focuses on tightening some screws. “But I refused. I wanted to build it for you with my own hands.”

You stand up, unable to sit still any longer, and lean closer, brushing your fingers near the parts.

“Hey, easy with that…” he warns gently. “Don’t touch anything. I’ve got it all organized so I don’t fuck up…”

“I’m not touching anything. I’m just looking. At the pieces… At how handsome my boyfriend is…”

He lifts his head and looks at you over his glasses.

“Let me finish this, okay? I’m almost done.”

You cross your arms, shifting your weight onto one leg.

“You know I can help, right?”

“I know, love…”

“Then let me,” you insist. “Pleaseeeee.”

He steps aside from the now perfectly assembled tower and places it on the right side of the desk, aligned neatly beside the monitor, which you now notice, of course, is also new, and much bigger than your old one.

“Jesus, Leon…”

“What?” he shrugs. “Can’t I spoil my girlfriend? It’s your birthday next week, and I know how badly you wanted all this. I thought I told you already… a few times, actually.”

“And I thought I told you I don’t like being spoiled this much,” you scold him. You can’t help feeling bad. “And, on top of that, you got home late yesterday and had to hear me yap about that stupid TikTok trend… And now, look at you, building my computer.”

“I told you I want to do this, seriously,” he insists. “I’ve been spoiling you all day. At least let me finish spoiling you for the rest of it, okay? It’s my job as your boyfriend.”

You step beside him and wrap your arms around him.

“It’s not fair. I wanted to build it with you,” you say, pointing at the computer.

“I know,” he replies gently. “But I also know you. And I know you’re going to start losing patience.”

“That’s not true.”

“You panic when you get stucked building a Lego set… I love you, really, but I can’t even imagine what you’d do if you had to build a computer yourself.”

“That’s different, Leon. But I’d get it already built. By this guys you say it’s my friend, you know?”

He smiles faintly.

He reaches behind the tower and you watch him connect the cables to the monitor until colorful lights flicker on. Then, without saying much, and muttering to himself instead, he sits in the chair and starts configuring everything until it’s fully set up.

Leon spins around it, leans back, crosses his arms, and looks at you.

“Did I do a good job?”

It doesn’t take long before you sit on his lap, his arms wrapping around your waist as you kiss him.

“Oh my God, Leon… It’s… It’s beautiful, really…” you say, pretty impressed, pressing another quick kiss to his lips.

You shift slightly on his thigh and can’t help the small spark of pleasure that runs through you.

Leon notices, of course. He starts caressing your waist with one hand while using the mouse with the other.

“Are you going to behave, love?” you ask playfully.

“Only if you promise to be a good girl. Otherwise, I won’t be able to finish spoiling you today…” you’re about to respond, but he brushes his lips along your neck, his beard tickling as he leaves soft kisses there. “And before you say anything, I was going to do this… but I wanted your opinion first.”

“You know I’m always a good girl, Leon.”

“Doesn’t seem like it when you moan my name begging me to fuck you harder.”

He puts his glasses back on and places his hands on the keyboard, navigating now on a gaming website.

It’s no surprise to you it’s the exact same page you have bookmarked on your laptop.

Before he can say anything else, you wrap your arms around his neck, lean against him, and plant kisses all over his face.

“I was going to buy you some games as a surprise,” he explains. “But, being totally honest with you, I didn’t want to mess it up, so…” he kisses your cheek. “Go on. Take a look and add them to the cart.”

“Leon…”

“Come on. Show me what games you want, love.”

You place your hand over his and start guiding the mouse.

As you scroll through the wide catalog of games, he rests his head against your shoulder, watching closely while you hesitate over what to choose.

“Add it to the cart,” he tells you. You’re about to, but… “Go on. You have to pick at least one, right?”

“Yes, but… I’m looking. Maybe there’s one I like more…”

Leon moves his hand beneath yours and adds the game you were just looking at. Then, he adds the one that’s currently on the screen.

“Leon, seriously, we already talked about this…”

“And it’s pointless to keep talking about it and have you scolding me for wanting to make my girlfriend happy,” he interrupts. “Do you like them?”

“Yes! I’ve wanted them for a long time.”

“Then, there’s nothing else to discuss.”

“And I like that one, too…” you admit shyly, pointing to another he just selected. He adds it as well. “And… I used to play that one when I was little, but my Nintendo broke, and…”

He adds that one too.

You shift slightly on his thigh and turn to face him, running your hands carefully over his chest.

“Leon.”

“What? Something else you want to complain about?” he grumbles.

“Yes. That you’re going to buy all of them.”

He lets go of the mouse and places both hands on your waist, guiding you so you’re fully facing him. Your legs are now parted on either side of him, and you can’t help the thoughts that start creeping in.

“It’s your birthday.”

“Next week,” you remind him.

He shakes his head, laughing quietly.

“I don’t care. We’ll have to start celebrating at some point, right?”

“It’s too much money…”

He doesn’t answer, but he gently pulls your head against his chest so you can’t see the screen.

For a few minutes, all you hear is him checking something on his phone and typing, clicking without pause.

When he finally grips your hips and lifts you effortlessly as he stands from the chair, you catch a glimpse of a PDF receipt, along with what looks like a total of 23 games.

You don’t even dare look at the total price and Leon makes sure you don’t, but…

Holy shit.

Leon reaches over and turns off the monitor entirely, then heads straight toward your bedroom.

“Do you feel like playing?” he murmurs in your ear, squeezing you firmly.

You let out a soft moan in response.

“What game do you want to start with, hmm?” he asks.

There’s a certain urgency in his voice. He presses his lips to your neck, leaving warm kisses as he opens the door, closes it behind him, and gently pins you against it.

Your legs are still wrapped around his waist, your arms around his neck, and that doesn’t stop him from kissing you with growing hunger.

“Do you want to play with me first? I think you’ve beaten this game a few times… but we can make a few changes, if you want.”

One of his hands slides beneath your skirt, brushing teasingly against your underwear.

“Leon…”

Leon Kennedy doesn’t know what he’s doing, or why he’s doing it.

He simply receives the alarm over the radio, looks at his daughter, your daughter, and…

There he is now, standing on top of a rooftop, adjusting his Spider-Man mask with one hand while, with the other, he gently strokes the head of the ten-month-old baby curled against his chest in the carrier.

“Okay, little one,” he whispers behind the mask as he watches her move her tiny head from side to side, eyes wide open. “Daddy’s got this…”

The baby babbles in response, waving her little arms while Leon remains completely focused on the scene.

The police are setting up barricades and doing everything they can to calm the civilians, who are far too agitated and screaming non-stop.

Leon can feel the panic.

As Spider-Man, he has spent years feeling panic.

“Explosion in the west tunnel. We’ve confirmed hostages. A second explosion might be possible in the next few minutes…”

Those words tell him there’s no time to lose.

He shoots a web at the metro station’s clock tower and leaps onto the roof. He hears the baby let out a small squeal, but she doesn’t cry.

“You like this, huh?”

Even though he’s now swinging at a lower height, Leon can’t help the knot forming in his stomach. It has nothing to do with heights, of course, but with the fact that he can’t believe he’s doing this, saving people… with his daughter.

But what else can he do? He can’t leave her with any one of your relatives, not even Claire, and just say he has to go handle his duties as Washington’s superhero. And of course, leaving her home, alone, doesn’t even cross his mind.

Taking her to your job isn’t an option either, especially since today’s your first day back after your maternity leave.

Leon hears another explosion. He sees debris flying through the air, people scrambling to get away from the area.

Luckily, no one seems to be hurt.

The baby shrieks, startled by the blast.

Leon feels his heart tighten.

“It’s okay, sweetheart,” he murmurs, rocking her gently. “We’re almost done…”

He lands on the station’s roof, crouching as he surveys the area. Smoke rises from the west side, where part of the building has collapsed.

He hears coughing, crying, and shouts for help from inside.

“Okay…” he says quietly, adjusting the baby carrier to make sure she’s as secure as possible. “Time to get to work…”

He drops down, landing lightly on the rubble. Dust swirls around him, and as he moves forward, he shields his daughter with his chest to keep her from inhaling too much of it.

Leon spots a woman curled in a fetal position behind an overturned vending machine, shielding a boy no older than six.

“Oh, thank God you’re here, Spider-Man!” the woman sobs in relief… until she sees the baby. “Wait… is that… a baby?”

“Uh… yeah. Long story.”

The boy looks at your daughter, who stares right back at him with wide eyes, blinking repeatedly. She even claps her little hands, which seems to delight him.

“She’s so cute!” the boy says, stepping closer.

“Thanks, buddy,” Leon replies. Then he turns to the woman. “Are you okay, ma’am? Can you move?”

“Y-Yes,” she answers quickly, though Leon senses she’s lying. “My leg hurts a bit… but nothing serious.”

“Good. Head toward the east exit. Police are waiting there. They’re securing the perimeter to prevent more chaos.”

Leon shoots a web to move a fallen signpost blocking the path, clearing the way.

The woman stares at him for a few seconds longer, still in shock, then looks at the baby once more before grabbing her son’s hand and running toward the exit Spider-Man indicated.

Leon smiles beneath the mask and continues doing his job.

There are too many hostages.

Too many screams and cries for help that he handles one by one.

But beyond the pattern of hearing someone call for help, going to them, and telling them what to do… there’s also the confusion.

“Wait, Spider-Man has a kid?”

“Is he wearing a baby carrier?”

“He brought his daughter to rescue hostages?!”

“Bro. Dad of the year. Hands down.”

Leon lets out a tired laugh.

“Yeah, tell that to my wife… I don’t think she’d agree.”

He doesn’t know how long he keeps repeating the same routine, making sure no one is left behind in the areas the police are now sweeping, but when he finally exits the station, exhausted, barely able to walk, still gently stroking his baby, he hears the crowd erupt into cheers.

He forces himself to raise his hands and quietly mouths a thank you, even though he knows no one can hear him.

“Did you seriously do all that with a baby strapped to you?!” a man shouts as he passes by, clapping him on the back.

“Looks like it,” Leon answers with a sigh.

That’s enough to make the cheers and applause grow even louder.

Leon feels far too embarrassed hearing people constantly call him Spider-Dad, but the baby seems to find it hilarious, smiling widely and waving her little arms excitedly.

Leon looks at her and can’t help smiling when she does.

“Well, at least I’m glad you’re having fun, because when your mom finds out… God, she’s definitely going to kill me.”

You’re sitting at your office desk, going through reports, when one of your coworkers leans over it with a sharp gasp, repeatedly calling your name.

Your mind is on Leon and your daughter, wondering how they’re doing right now. Probably, your husband’s making up some ridiculous song while rocking her to sleep…

“Have you seen this?!” your coworker exclaims, almost shouting as she holds her phone out to you.

“Seen what…?”

“Spider-Man at the Union Station explosion! And he’s carrying a baby with him!”

You freeze, feeling anxiety begin to form in your lower stomach.

“What?”

“It’s all over the news! Seriously, take a look at this!”

She pushes the phone closer so you can see better, and sure enough, there’s your husband swinging through smoke and debris with a baby carrier strapped to his chest, the same one you use to take your little girl out for walks, with a baby.

Your heart drops.

No. It can’t be.

He wouldn’t have the guts to…

“Do they know whose baby it is?” you ask carefully, trying to keep your voice from shaking, obviously trying to cover for your husband.

“No idea,” your coworker replies without taking her eyes off the screen. “Some people are saying it’s Spider-Man’s baby, others think it’s a baby he rescued but didn’t know where or who to leave her with…”

Another coworker leans over his desk and joins the conversation.

“No way. Didn’t you see him? That dude’s definitely the baby’s dad. Haven’t you noticed how calm the baby is? Like she’s used to doing this every day!”

God forbid that ever happens, you think.

Your coworker points at the TV in the office. 

You don’t know who turned it on or when, but the news is now showing a close-up of Spider-Man crouched down, carefully lifting a piece of rubble to help a trapped man.

When the camera zooms in a little more on the baby’s face you confirm, with no doubt, that it’s your daughter.

“Wait… isn’t that your daughter?!” another coworker shouts, hurrying toward you.

“Have you talked to Leon? Did he call you? Or at least texted you?”

“Explain it to me? Explain what?!”

You’re shouting now, the words tumbling over each other.

You throw your purse to the floor and close the distance between you both, taking your daughter carefully from his arms without even thinking.

“What exactly are you going to explain to me, Leon?” you press on. “That you thought it would be a wonderful idea to strap our ten-month-old daughter to your chest and go save people in a train station that was falling apart because of bombs? Or that you found it funny that people were calling you Spider-Dad?”

“Not going to lie: that was cool.”

You don’t answer.

Leon lowers his gaze.

He knows he screwed up, but what was he supposed to do?

“I didn’t know what else I could do!” he shoots back quickly, keeping his voice low so he doesn’t wake your daughter, who has fallen asleep in your arms. “I got the alert. There were hostages, damn it. I couldn’t call your mom, or Claire, and I obviously wasn’t going to leave her here alone…”

“So you thought taking her with you was the best option,” your voice trembles. It isn’t anger. It’s pure panic. Your eyes fill with tears, but you refuse to let them fall. “Leon… do you even think about what could have happened? You could’ve been hurt, or… fuck, Leon, you could’ve been shot! Or her! What if something had happened to you both?”

Leon carefully stands from the couch and moves toward you.

“I knew what I was doing. I had everything under control. I wasn’t going to let anything happen to her. I kept her safe the entire time, I swear…”

“The bombs could’ve blown you to pieces!” you let out in a choked sob, trying not to shout but unable to contain the rage. Tears begin to stream down your cheeks. “I saw all the footage, Leon. The way you came out of that station covered in smoke, ash, or whatever… and she was right there with you…”

Leon stiffens, guilt pressing hard against his chest.

He knew he’d done something reckless. Of course he did. He’s fully aware things could have gone wrong in a second, but seeing you like this, your whole body shaking, your eyes consumed by fear…

“I’m sorry,” he says as calmly as he can. “I didn’t want to scare you. I didn’t know what else to do without risking… you know.”

Of course you know.

Risking someone other than you finding out that he, Leon Kennedy, is Spider-Man, Washington’s hero.

“You have no idea what my face must’ve looked like when they showed me the footage from the news,” you whisper, your voice breaking. “And don’t even get me started on how they reacted when they recognized the baby and started asking me about you…”

Leon feels a lump form in his throat, and even though all he can think about is what a terrible father he’s been, he pushes those thoughts aside and wraps his arms around both of you.

You collapse against his chest, desperate, trying to calm yourself and to focus on the one thing that matters: out of the thousand scenarios you imagined on the way home, none of them happened.

They’re fine.

Your husband and your daughter are perfectly fine.

“I’m here,” Leon tells you, gently rocking you as he kisses your forehead. “We’re here. We’re safe, love...”

With your face still pressed to his chest, you look up at him and can’t help letting out a bitter laugh.

He looks away from you, shakes his head, and even though he doesn’t want to, he admits it:

“Whether you believe it or not, I was scared too. I’m sorry. I swear this will never happen again.”

You let out a slow breath, wiping your eyes with the back of your hand.

You’re still angry with him, of course, but after his confession…

At least he had the courage to be honest.

“Leon… I understand you’re a hero, and you know I support what you do, but our daughter doesn’t need Spider-Man or adventures where she could die. She needs her father and his protection.”

Leon nods slowly.

“I promise you. I won’t take her on another mission. Ever. No matter what happens. And if I’m overwhelmed—”

“You call me, and we figure it out together. Okay? That’s why I’m Spidey’s number 1 fan.”

Leon nods and gives you a brief kiss on the lips, which you don’t reject… even though you probably should.
