Ashley grinned proudly as she walked into the den of the Sanctuary. Helen was less amused as she followed her. “It’s really not funny.”

“Oh come on, it’s kind of funny,” she answered as she walked over to sit on the couch.

Helen shook her head. “You really can’t take such a cavalier attitude on the surface anymore, Ashley. What if they’d figured out you were an abnormal and contacted SCIU? Worse yet what if they’d known you’re from the Sanctuary? You really need to be more careful.”

“I just picked up a book at the library about how to hot wire cars. Let’s go joy riding!”

Okay so she was kidding, but she was running out of ideas. She wanted to convince Tess and Anni to forget about whatever they were working on in the lab and go out with her tonight. Usually it wouldn’t take so much convincing, especially to get Tess out to a club, but they had been so absorbed in whatever recent project they’d been focused on. Well, she’d had enough waiting around and decided to see what she could pull off for tonight.

“I won’t show mercy on you now.”

She’d finally caught up with Worth and had him pinned back against the side of the building down some alley in New City where she’d chased him to.

“You know.. the others have let you live far too long. My father even let you escape alive, twice, because you were one of them. Well guess what.. I’m not the Five… and I’m not about to make the same mistake they did. You’ve crossed so many too many lines, Adam.. way too much to forgive.”

“Oh my God! Are you okay?!”

She climbed down from where she’d seen Anni and Tess fall after the ledge they were chasing an abnormal over had collapsed. “Nice bloody job with the stunner, Henry!” she called back knowing the laser hitting the rock had been what had caused it to give way and send the two vampires down a good 20 feet off the ledge.

Reaching them, Tess was already popping stuff back into place and she moved to Anni, knowing her healing was slower.. “Hey are you alright?”

“Who are you talking to?”

She came into the tavern after returning to RhyDin a little while ago. She’d heard Anni talking when she approached the Tavern but figured Henry or Tess or … hell Casey.. was inside. But when she came in she didn’t see anyone there but.. Anni.

“Everything okay?” She blinked as she walked over to head back behind the bar and get some tea.

“Yeah. Well it’s kind of a human thing. We tend to be afraid of things we don’t know. “

She shrugged and pulled her knees up infront of her where she was sitting on the roof. Will had already been up here to check on the fact that she had never shown up the meeting she’d been specifically told not to miss. He’d been chewed out almost as badly as when he told her to be there in the first place.

Henry, John and Helen had each been shot down in turn.

Then Henry had the brilliant idea to send Magnus up and try. Usually this would be all it took but tonight even her five year old, adorable little brother was just not lifting her spirits. At least she’d been gentler to him when she asked him to leave her alone, and just told him it was getting late and he should go back before mummy came looking for him.

It was finally Biggie who had managed to get her to talk, at least a little. She was keeping most of her thoughts to herself even with the wise, old sasquatch.

“Yeah... cept you’re not really all that human either are you...” Biggie stated wisely as he watched her.

She shrugged, a hand lifted to push back a few dark blonde strands from her face.

“It doesn’t matter. I just don’t know what or who I am these days...”

“ Stop with the dad jokes! “

Ashley growled a bit, her blue eyes darkening as she looked between the other two.

She pointed to Tess ... “Your father is an alcoholic vampire who thinks he can build a radio tower to talk to aliens..” And she turned to Anni then.. “And yours... yours is an overgrown fuzzball who thinks he’s a bloody HAP!”

She’d been in a mood all day about something, and patience was virtually nil when someone had said something about not killing the messenger when she’d snapped at Will for telling her there was a staff meeting in twenty minutes and not to be late. Well why just snap at him when you could slice him up Ripper style? That had been the last straw

“Fuck the meeting and fuck both of you.” She grabbed up her tablet and got up, walking out of the room and leaving them there ...

Whatever had gotten to her lately she was keeping it to herself, but this display of temper was extreme even for Ashley.

“It’s getting dark, we have to find shelter.”

Ashley looked to Tess and Anni as they had been wandering around the Congo grasslands near Kisangani for hours. The heat beating down was one thing, but now that it was getting dark she decided it was probably best not to continue seeking out the offshoot wildcat until morning. Helen had explained to them that the creature was a nocturnal hunter like many of its more mainstream kin, and would be easier to capture during its rest period during the hot daylight hours.

“That requires stealing a page from my brother’s book. Not that he ever read one.”

Ashley smirked as she clicked the cartridge into the customized firearm. This gun shot a very specific type of tranq that had been designed by Helen for just this creature in particular. Normal drugs didn’t work on it, but as it turned out the essential oil of a certain Hollow Earth abnormal plant could be used to knock the massive carnivorous amphibian out cold for hours, long enough to capture, tag and relocate the target.

Only problem was there seemed to be something missing from the weapon and she couldn’t quite figure out what had been left out.

“I’m going to kill him when we get back. Kill him dead. This is useless!”

“Please.. you’re scaring me.. “

She stared over at Anni, not moving too quickly this way or that as she watched her sister-in-law closely.

“Really.. Anni..”

She had vamped and while that in itself didn’t startle Ashley, it was the apparent lack of control Anni now was experiencing that left her previous wary outlook on vampires since her return at the surface, even after Beau had helped her get her own vampiric abilities back.

“What’s going on Anni... come on, listen to me.. you’re not gonna lose control alright.. “

“I knew not to trust you!”

Ashley had her gun level on the redlister who had arranged to meet them here ... when they arrived, they had been surrounded by several Cabal remnant members. The ensuing confrontation had taken a violent turn and Ashley and Tess had managed to kill a few of them before the rest escaped. Henry had gone after them but Ashley stayed behind to deal with Lawson herself.

The barrel of her gun was trained on the dealer, who was over by the corner of the abandoned warehouse. He lifted his hands defensively, “come on Magnus..”

Ashley shook her head, dark blue eyes fixed coldly on him.

“Ohhhh you picked the wrong people to fuck with.”

Lawson shook his head, nervously shuffling a little as he never took his dark eyes off the gun. “I just thought... I mean... I didn’t wanna deal with Doctor Magnus or the others from the Old School I mean...”

“Yeah well... try not bullshitting Jack the Ripper’s daughter, moron. I could kill you here and now and be perfectly content to have it over with,” She clicked the gun off ready and put it back into its holster against her hip.

“But... as much as my dad might approve my mom sure as hell wouldn’t. No.. you’ll just come back with us and I’ll be more than happy to let her deal with you herself.”

“They were trying to kill me! I had to defend myself!”

Ashley looked the scene around them. Four SCIU agents lay dead and bloody on the ground. Ashley was unvamping as she healed up several wounds on her body.

A fifth agent lay by the wall, and groaned with a twitch. “Oh bloody hell…” Ashley sighed and looked to Anni then back to the SCIU guy. Walking over, she reached down and grabbed the lapel of his shirt. “Listen buddy.. We’ll take you back to the Sanctuary for medical care but you tip off your gremlin scum comrades about us and I’ll make you wish you’d been lucky enough to be vampire food right here…”

Looking to her sister-in-law, Ashley nodded. “Page mom and Henry; let’s get out of here.”

“It reminded me of you.”

Ashley stood in the open space cleared from the center of her mother’s office in the New Praxis Sanctuary. Dressed in her blue and silver maid-of-honor dress, she was helping Anni get ready for the wedding. Helen, Tess, Beau and Seriah had all gone to find the guys and find out when Henry would be ready.

She placed the silver Pandora-style bracelet on Anni’s wrist. On it were a few charms already.. one was a silver wedding cake. There were also four small beads of colored stone -- birthstones. Opal, Sapphire, Garnet and Topaz; birthstones for Rayne, Alistair, Freya and the baby. One either end were two others: Citrine and ruby.

Also on the bracelet was the bead charm she’d been referring to that it reminded her of Anni: it was a silver fox with rhinestone eyes of blue sapphire.

“Look I uhh.. I’m not great with words like my parents can be I just want to say… that I’m really glad you and Henry are getting married. You make him so happy.. and Magnus and I are really thrilled to have you as a sister.”

So there she was searching for Ashley because she was impatient and didn’t want to wait any longer.
