Textbooks: Expensive and Scary.
So I went to the Camosun bookstore yesterday to pick up my textbooks for my finally finalized Fall schedule (late applying meant late acceptance which meant late registration which meant a whole lot of waiting lists but I got into the courses I wanted/needed).
I guess I'd forgotten how expensive textbooks could be. Either that, or textbooks were just cheaper when I was an arts student. Science textbooks are EXPENSIVE and intimidating. I opened my chemistry lab work and just about died.
Beyond the money, I'm worried that my brain just doesn't work like that anymore. I've been out of school for ten years and now I'm going back to study something that I love, but also something that's mostly foreign to me. I'm not afraid of hard work, that's not the case at all; I suppose I'm afraid of failing. But with hard work I should be ok, right? RIGHT?
I'm sure I'll be fine. My husband is super-supportive and I know he'll help me out any way he can. Still.... nervous...

Finding It Harder...
Shortly after I started this personal blog, I also started an environmental blog to help get me focused for school in a few weeks. I post pictures and links to articles about animals and conservation and it's actually really exciting for me.
But I can't seem to get behind updating this one...
So, do I try harder? Or do I forget about it and focus on the other one?
For now, I'll try a little harder. For now...
In other news, I haven't played a single video game for a few days now (I don't count iPhone apps, though I probably should). Instead I've been devoting my time to reading and watching the Olympics and rehearsal. Maybe instead of just blogging about the environment, I should really make more of an effort to get out and enjoy it.
Let's see how that goes.
To Game or Not to Game?
So I'd like to make an effort to spend less time gaming. It's going to be hard because I've always been a gamer; it's a large part of my identity. But it doesn't take me anywhere. It only acts as an escape and a way to pass huge chunks of time. Don't get me wrong, it's a hell of a lot of fun, but I always feel guilty afterwards. (Well, not always, but usually).
Part of my brain is saying, "Game all you can now because once school starts you're going to be WAY too busy." But it's not like I'm banking that enjoyment to the point where I won't miss gaming come September or won't feel the urge to play for hours on end. So gaming more right now isn't really getting me anything, like I said, it's just passing time. And I don't want to just pass time.
Don't you wish sometimes that you could go back and talk to yourself before you were really you? (Does that make sense?). I mean yourself before you've been exposed to the world; when you live in that little bubble of family and everyone you know loves you. I wouldn't really change anything, except maybe to give myself a hug and let me know that everything will be just fine. I would love to regain some of that simplicity. Not to disregard all of my adult obligations, but to remember what it felt like to shove my face into chocolate cake and not worry about cleaning it out of my hair afterwards. Seriously though, I was pretty damn cute.
The Beginning?
I've started things like this before; blogs, I mean. Though I suppose tumblr isn't really a traditional blog, but here I go.
I turn 30 in just over two weeks and I'm starting school in just over 5 weeks. That's a whole lot of "new". So, I'm trying to make a change. Not that I really need to change, but I'd like to refocus my energy to a more productive and positive place (hence the whole going back to school thing).
Now this tumblr thingy of mine won't always be deep or introspective or relevant or anything like that... but hopefully it will help me through this exciting and scary life transformation.
