Alfred F. Jones was not the kind of boy to call for help when he needed it. For one thing, it wasn’t very heroic, and it could be read as a sign of weakness to the people who surrounded him, the ones always eager to point out his flaws to everyone who would listen. The number of times he’d been branded as stupid, selfish, ignorant, anything else would could imagine was appalling. It got to him more often than he let on, and he knew he definitely deserved some of the labels. Introducing nuclear warfare to the world was kind of like a permanent shit stain on your resume.
Tonight though, tonight was not a good night. He was feeling insecure and upset, and he wished for the comfort of someone he could come home to and hug. He didn’t know who, just someone. Anyone really. His brothers, his sister, a friend. Someone who wouldn’t judge him, or maybe could put aside their dislike for him, if only for a while. No, that was selfish of him to think, wasn’t it? He was the land of the free and home of the brave, his life was pretty damn swell in comparison to most other’s, who was he to be seeking a shoulder to cry on?
A man, an exhausted, drained man. The blond bit his tongue, and before he even registered his cell phone in his hand, he had dialed a number at random and had the receiver to his ear.
He swallowed as the person on the other end picked up, and tried for his normal, chipper voice.
“Hey!”
Xóchitl blinked, awakened from her nap by the incessant chirping of her mobile that lay on her bedside table. Feeling tired, but obligated, she stretched over to pick it up, and quirked a brow at who it was. Shrugging, she decided to see what he wanted.
“¿Bueno?” she answered, only to be greeted with a familiar voice. She frowned a little, noting that something was off, “Alfredo, are you alright? You don’t sound all too well. Do you need anything?”
"Ah? Ahaha oh, no no!" His reply came a bit too quickly, was a bit too insistent. "No, I'm uh, I'm fine. I'm sorry." He paused a beat, and then held the phone out at arm's length and coughed several times. "Aha, sorry if I sounded a bit weird, I think I'm catchin' a cold!" He was good at pretending he was alright. All nations were, it was critical that they could put on a brave front when the time called for it, weather if was for their people or in the face of adversary, they could all fall back onto the art of acting to seem better off than they were.
"I just called to um...Well, I don't know really. I don't think so anyways...Yeah so, anyways, sorry if I'm bothering you, heh!"
