Caffeine Rush || Fitz & Bridgette
Fitz laughed modestly, shrugging his shoulders. “Nah. Just really, really intent on getting as much sleep as I can.” He stiffened in surprise when she interlocked their arms, although he relaxed fairly quickly. What she said next surprised him–he’d always been told he was essentially speaking gibberish. “Ehhh… I don’t know, you’d have to hear me talk more, especially in the field, I get carried away, it’s–yeah.” He bit his lip, trying not to sound too negative, because she’d told him not to. “Er. Thanks, though.”
After making their way out of the hall, Bridgette leads him over to the path that leads towards the coffee shop, nearly cheering when the building comes into view. “Hey, I can hear you thinking and stuff. There’s a difference between aimless gibberish and getting carried away talking about something that excites you. Nothing wrong with getting carried away - although I guess that depends on what you’re getting carried away about... Like, getting carried away talking about produce stickers? That’d be weird. But if you get carried away when you’re excited about a fucking... discovery or something? That’s cool, Fitz. Means you actually care about what you do. And... I’m getting carried away, aren’t I?”

“It’s possible I might have, but my breaks were more of me assigning projectwork for them to do outside class instead of having to lecture or even be present.” He laughed a little. “Heh, I always have gibberish spelling out of my mouth. Ehm… which way is the coffee shop? I can’t remember.” He paused, chewing his lip.
“You are obviously the smarter one of us,” Bridgette comments playfully. “Oh, it’s this way!” Interlocking their arms, she begins to walk at a brisker pace, eager for her caffeine fix. “And I have yet to hear you speak gibberish. You enunciate very well and employ your widely varied vocabulary without sounding pretentious. Quit putting yourself down, it just makes me wanna shake some sense into you and that’d be kinda mean.”

“It was alright, I don’t have morning class today so my morning’s probably been less droll than yours was.” He rubbed at his eyes with the heels of his palms, glancing up as she started to put on her shoes. “You should, sometime. Doing teaching work is hard. Give yourself a break sometimes, y’know?” When she was ready, he started walking back out the door with her.
Bridgette laughs as she slips on her heels, fastening them in place before she stands. “Oh, does that mean you’ve actually done it before?” she asks curiously, fetching her wallet before following him out. “Usually if I literally can’t function without a bunch of gibberish spilling outta my mouth I just take a nap during lunch until Sierra fetches me.”
Yeah, okay. This wasn’t the class Trip’s next lesson was in. It’d taken her an embarrassing time of a minute and a half to realise that, and almost none at all to understand what she was dealing with. More precisely, what the (very attractive, slightly intimidating) woman she’d walked in on was dealing with. Skye averted her eyes while the corner of her mouth tugged upwards in amusement, hand lingering on the door handle.
“You trying to assassinate something Edison took all the credit for? I know Tesla got robbed and this injustice makes all of us irrationally angry, but if you’re looking for something to smack, I highly recommend the Trump piñata I saw the other day,” she shrugged. “Or a suggestion box. I’m sure there’s one around, just look for the eagle logo they have on everything.”
Bridgette turns, eyebrows arching minutely. “Glad to hear I’m not the only one concerned about highkey this ‘secret government agency’ is when it comes to the logo,” she chirps, glancing back up at the light fixture and narrowing her eyes. “As if the black suits and Ray Bans weren’t conspicuous enough, amirite? Hey, you think Tate would be angry if I shot these lights out? Because I am seriously considering.”
Caffeine Rush || Fitz & Bridgette
Fitz, admittedly, was running a little late. He’d gotten up way too early the morning before, and then he’d taken a nap in the afternoon, and so at night he wasn’t tired until way late–so he’d slept in on accident. He at least managed to come his hair on the way out. He forgot her room number, though, so he kept peeking in the offices to see which one was Bridgette’s–aha!
He walked inside, shooting her a frazzled smile. “Ehm. Hey. Sorry, I slept in a mite bit too late.”
“Mmm, don’t worry about it. I would’ve done the same - should’ve done the same. Only the hope of coffee has kept me functioning,” she admits, slipping her feet off the desk and dropping her book on top of the stack of papers she was supposed to be grading in lieu of reading. “Just gotta get my shoes on. So how’s your morning been?” she says, bending down to fetch her heels from under the desk. “I was so tempted to give the kids a reading assignment and take a nap during class, lemme tell ya.”
Caffeine Rush || Fitz & Bridgette
The light above Bridgette’s head does not buzz anymore, thank the fucking gods. After class had let out, she had stayed behind to wait for Fitz to Red Rover his ass on over. Kicking off her heels, Bridgette puts her feet up on her desk, crossing her ankles as she leans back in her chair. A book sits in her lap, eyes scanning over the words rapidly. Her eyes drift over to the clock momentarily before returning to the page, an index finger tracing over the path her eyes create over the lines of text. The page goes blurry for a moment as her mouth splits wide into a yawn. She needs that goddamn coffee ASAP.
He took a few hurried steps back and raised his arms apologetically. This was officially the last time he’d be early to a class. “I’m not a pro at criminology or murder scenes, but I can deduct you’re having problems with the lamp,” he said after he’d seized the situation and the letter opener in her hand. “Professor Austin’s class has those too. Explains why he’s always on edge.”
“Do you want me to call a scitech person?”
“Nonono, I can do this. It just needs to be taught a lesson, right?” She sounds just about as unsure as she feels as she smacks the light with the butt of Orcrist’s handle again. “These lights suck ass, Lincoln, but I can figure this out. Maybe. Fuck.” Glaring up at the light, Bridgette curses lightly under her breath again, seriously considering pulling out her Sig and shooting. At least that way, maintenance would be forced to fix the fixtures. “Goddammit, I give up,” she finally mutters. “Lincoln, c’mere and help your favorite professor down. And tell no one about this.”

“Brave lion… yeah, that’s what it means. I’m not… actually brave, though. It’s totally not me. Fitz… fits.” He laughed a little, wringing his hands. He was getting a kind of… weird vibe. He pushed it away, though, and smiled. “Tomorrow, twelve-thirty. Great, that sounds, ehm, that sounds good. Coffee’s good. Do you want me to stop by here at this time then?”
“Pshhh, give yourself more credit, Fitz. Brave isn’t going out and fighting aliens like Tony Stark or something. You work for a shady government agency filled with people who could snap all our necks quicker than you can say ‘bitch, please’. That’s fucking brave in my book.” She shrugs then, figuring she’s made her point well. Hopefully it hadn’t seemed like she was biting his head off. “Sure, stop on by here. I’ll be waitin’.”
“Yeah, uh, I think so, too. That it suits me, I mean. My first name is, ehm…” Fitz paused and smiled slightly self-consciously. “Leopold.” He noticed how she smiled at his stammer, and he was starting to get nervous. Was she flirting with him? Or was she just being nice? Was this her trying to tell him she wanted to be friends? “Yeah, that’d be, uhm. Cool. That’d be cool, and I always like to make new friends.”
“Leopold... I know that it means something to do with lions. ‘Brave Lion’, I think. Suits you just as well, if you ask me.” She lets out a small laugh at the mention of the word ‘friends’. Yeah, sure. ‘Friends’... “Good to know. I already took my lunch break today, so what do you think about meeting up tomorrow? Around... hmm... twelve-thirty? I’ll definitely be needing coffee by then and something tells me you might be in the same boat.”
“Oh, Skye gets along with anyone–er, most anyone, anyway.” Fitz smiled. Bridgette was a nice name, fitting. He nodded. “Right, I’m Fitz. Which is my last name, nobody uses my first, not even–” She moved towards him, which he didn’t think much of, but then she kissed his cheek and he pretty much balked at her. “Uuuh. Oh. Thanks. Uh.” He blushed darkly when she wiped his cheek, and he reached up to rub at his face. “Er. Thanks. Ehm. Right.” Were they talking about something? He felt like his thought process was completely erased.
“Hmm, Fitz. Suits you, in an odd way. That’s not to say that your name is odd, just that the fact that it suits you so well is odd. I’m not eloquent,” she says. Watching him stammer makes Bridgette smile. “You’re a charming fella, Fitz, in your own little way. I like you. We should hang out sometime.”
professorleofitz:
“I’m fine, it’s cool, I’m alright. I’m good.” He shot her an attempt at a reassuring look, leaning against the desk. His face was still red, though, because he was still majorly embarrassed. God dammit Fitz. He just watched as she started rambling, not annoyed or even amused by it just because he was so used to both Simmons and him having the problem of lacking a filter, so he listened to everything he said before nodding. “Ehhm. I don’t know. I’m not really sure who Dr. Garner is, so I couldn’t tell you.” He scratched the back of his neck. “Oh. Nah, that’s–that’s cool, my friend uh, Skye, she’d probably get your reference. I think she likes to challenge herself to see how many pop culture mentions she can put into a sentence.” He snorted.
“Sounds like I’d get along well with your friend Skye,” she chirps, nudging her rolling chair back under her desk with her foot. “Oh, shit. Okay, I feel like a complete twat. You just did me a huge favor and I don’t even know your name. I’m Laursen. Uhh, Bridgette’s my first name. Most people just use my first name. I’m not like James Bond, unfortunately. At least, not yet. And I should thank you, like, a billion times. You’re amazing, thank you. I can finally hide in here without being tempted to commit an atrocity of some sort.” Stepping forward, she gives him a quick peck on the cheek. Which would probably have been a better idea had she not been wearing lipstick. “Oop, sorry,” she says, wiping his cheek with her thumb. “Left a little something behind there. Lemme... there. All better!”
professorleofitz:
“I’m glad I never went into Operations. I’d probably get knocked out and into a coma within a week.” Fitz hopped off the desk, somehow managing to not stick the landing and falling on his ass. “Agh! See?” He tried to laugh to play off his embarrassment, but his face was completely red. “Ehm, yeah, I worked with May for a while out in the field with Coulson.” He slowly stood up, wincing and rubbing his back end slightly. How did he manage to fall that hard? It was only a couple feet off the ground. Great job, Fitz. “That whole sentence was a reference to something, right? I don’t know the reference.”
As she watches him fall, a look of horror comes over her face as she quickly stands from her chair. “Oh, fuck! Are you okay? I told you that thing was a deathtrap!” Bridgette’s own bum hurts just watching him stick the landing on his ass. Fucking hell. Her worry abates when he doesn’t seem too seriously injured anywhere besides his pride. Argh, he must be sore. She decides not to fret too much, not wanting to make him feel bad over a little spill. “Cool, I didn’t know that. If ya see her, tell her that her favorite psychiatrist says hi. Wait, no, don’t. She might think you mean Dr. Garner. Yeah, nevermind. I mean, technically he’s not a psychiatrist, but better to be safe than sorry. Plus, I mean, is he her favorite psychologist-slash-psychiatrist? Who knows?” Finished with her rambling, Bridgette takes a deep breath. “Aaaanyways, yeah, that was just a big tribute to Prince- the musician I mean. I couldn’t help myself. It was awful. I’m ashamed of that whole sentence.”
