❝ yes, ❞ he says, but it doesn’t have the bite he wants it to have because it isn’t gonna happen this time. you’d have to stab him to get him to admit it, but diego likes these quiet moments with klaus. ( y’know... sometimes ).
they’re sitting in his car as the engine idles on the corner two blocks from the diner that only makes good pancakes at three am. diego contemplates what would happen if he meant it, kicking klaus out — probably another night of listening to the scratchy police scanner, beating up a bad guy or two. going home to the back room of his shitty boiler room apartment at the gym when the sun decides to rise — the usual. but, and he decides this rather suddenly, he’s tired tonight. so instead of pretending to be a hero, he’s gonna play at being a brother.
he throws an arm over the bucket seat to actually look in the back at where klaus is sitting, rather than checking the rear view, domino mask cast aside. he isn’t even sure what he’s gonna ask until the words fall from his lips, ❝ hey, you hungry? ❞
