a brief account of what is called the âcancelled sheith zineâ story, because I was present for that mess and - again - more or less at ground zero because for whatever reason every vld wank has happened to people Iâm 2 Bacon degrees from.
This wank dates back to November 2016. Season 1 was the only season that had been released, and vld antis were attacking sheith shippers for shipping âpedophiliaâ because Word of God was that Keith was in his âlate teensâ and ânot an adultâ and Shiro was âan adultâ. It was the only thing antis had to bank on.
first of all, a quick correction:
reports of a cancelled sheith zine are greatly exaggerated.
in fact, to date (September 2018) Iâve never heard of a sheith-themed collaborative zine having to cancel its release due to internal conflict or disorganization, nor because of outside pressure or targeted harassment campaigns by voltron anti-shippers.
anti-sheith shippers DID attempt to get charities to reject donations generated by the sale of sheith-themed merch by contacting those charities and claiming the profits were made off âchild pornâ.
at the time, there wasnât much in the way of zines to target. the biggest sheith zine in production at the time was Infinite - the first submission-based sheith zine - and their profits were being donated to beyondblue, a mental health charity. it had not even opened up preorders. some private zines were in production, but thatâs it.
at least one artist, however, had released patches and blankets featuring sheith art and captioned âshiro loves you babyâ. all profits were set to go to the childrenâs aid foundation.
the merch was released for sale on November 12th, 2016, and sold out almost instantly.
About a week later, though, someone going by lancemcclainsvevo (since deactivated) made a post on tumblr telling off anti-sheith shippers for trying to stop charity donations:
âFrom what Iâve seen, people have been sending actual physical letters to (mostly anti-CSA/other abuse) charities urging them not to accept donations from artists who raised money to donate to them through producing sheith content, accusing said artists of being pedophiles.â
wildly enough, this accusation was confirmed by an anti who reblogged the post (their account is still active. DO NOT HARASS THEM OVER 2-YR-OLD WANK, lord.):
âIm laughing my ass off. Youre literally lying about this, yet again. The antis that sent those letters literally NEVER told the charities to refuse the money. Never once. [âŠ]Â
âThe charity refused your fucking pedo porn money because of everything youve shown you stand for. [âŠ] Let this be a fucking wake up call. That charity refused your money (and accepted ours in return, by the way) because you are acting like contributing to child sexual abuse culture, talking over children and calling them immature for being UNCOMFORTABLE WITH PEDOPHILIA, and sending money raised by predatory ship art is doing more to help csa victims than the very csa victims youre shitting all over.â

what followed was a general buzz of people trying to figure out why on earth anyone would actually try to stop charitable donations over a fictional pairing, whose Dirty Sheith Moneyâą had been rejected, and whether that money had actually been rejected in the first place. (general consensus from people with experience in charity organizations was that charities are not in a position to investigate where every donation comes from & need money too much to look a gift horse in the mouth, particularly when the supposed child victim being profited off of is a fictional, drawn teenager.)
there was also a wave of charity zines & merch created in the wake of this fuss.
around this time, the artist above made some vague mentions of having had issues with her donation - issues that she felt safe to share with mutuals in DMs, but otherwise kept quiet. those tweets have since been deleted, but she obliquely confirmed that anti-sheith shippers had tried to prevent her selected charity from accepting her donation:
however, they apparently failed:
the artist was able to donate around $1000 to the childrenâs aid foundation in January 2017.
and thatâs the story of the time that voltron anti-shippers were so petty they tried to stop children in need from getting Dirty Sheith Moneyâą because the purity of the fundraiser was far more important to them than the wellbeing of real people.
itâs funny, but at the time we thought they couldnât get any worse. (but oh, how wrong theyâve proven us to be.)
