There are many things Dave does that Tavros doesn't understand, but there is always one thing he understands completely.
a short fluffy fic about a Sunday morning for Tavros in Dave's apartment.
trigger warning for smoking and brief mention of smoking related illnesses.
also posted on AO3 and FFN if you prefer reading there.
When Tavros woke up that morning the bed was empty. He could still smell Dave's cologne on the pillow next to him. He threw the covers off and stretched. The soft morning light filtered in through the open window. He sighed to himself before getting up. Dave was never there when he woke up. No matter how early he tried to get up Dave was already awake before him. Sometimes Tavros thought that was very strange, especially since Tavros always went to sleep before Dave, but many things that Dave did were very strange.
When Tavros entered the kitchen the French press was already cleaned and sitting in the drying rack. A steaming cup of coffee was waiting for him on the countertop. Tavros smiled as he took the creamer and the sugar out. No matter what, whenever Tavros woke up each morning that he stayed with Dave there was a cup of coffee ready for him. How Dave managed to time it perfectly so that it would be the perfect temperature when he woke up Tavros would never know.
As Tavros drank he hummed to himself, leaning against the counter as he looked around the tiny kitchen. The whole apartment was tiny; a small attic apartment, but Tavros liked it. It was cute in a way. Dave had a few paintings hanging around the kitchen, just like in every room of the tiny apartment. Most of them were ones that Dave had painted himself. There was one on the opposite wall from where Tavros stood that depicted a small temple surrounded by a field of flowers. The flowers were small and white and perching on the eaves of the temple was a small murder of crows. Of all the paintings hanging around Daveâs home this one was probably one of Tavrosâ favourites. It gave him a strange sense of calm whenever he stared at it.
Tavros finished the last of his drink and washed it in the sink. He decided to go find Dave before cooking breakfast. Dave was always easy to find, Tavros thought as he went back to the bedroom. A soft breeze was coming in through the open window. Yes, Dave was always very easy to find.
âDave?â Tavros said as he stuck his head out of the window. Sure enough Dave was sitting on the roof, cigarette dangling between his fingers. Dave seemed lost in thought and nearly jumped when he heard his name.
âOh, youâre up,â Dave said, turning to give him a little half smile. âSleep well?â
Tavros nodded before crawling out of the window to sit next to Dave. Dave scooted over slightly to give Tavros a little room before tapping out the collecting ashes from his cigarette into the ashtray sitting next to him. Tavros could see two cigarette butts resting in the seashell ashtray. How long had Dave been sitting out here?
âYouâll get sick, if you smoke that much.â Tavros said, pulling his knees up to his chest. Tavros saw something flash in Daveâs red eyes as he grimaced before taking another drag. He blew a smoke ring into the air before turning to look at Tavros again.
âTrust me Tav, You wonât have to worry about anything like that.â Dave said with a wry smile. Tavros frowned but nodded. There were times that Dave said and did things that confused Tavros. The way he talked sometimes and the way he looked at him made his stomach flip. âI mean it Tavros. Iâll be fine.â Dave said as he reached out to take Tavâs hand with his free one.
âAre you, sure?â Tavros asked in a soft voice. Daveâs hand was warm around his own and he squeezed it slightly.
âI promise,â Dave said as he squeezed back, âYou donât have to worry about me.â Tavros was still worried, but he nodded and smiled slightly at Daveâs reassurance.â Dave smiled back and pulled Tavrosâ hand up to press his lips to his knuckles. Tavros blushed, dusky pink spreading across his dark cheeks. âJe t'aimeâ Dave whispered before leaning in to brush a kiss against Tavrosâ lips.
âYour breath, smells gross,â Tavros said with a giggle.
Dave let out an exaggerated groan as he pulled back, âMan, here I was trying to be romantic and shit, and you say something like that and totally ruin the mood,â though Tavros could hear the amusement in his voice.
Dave was still holding Tavâs hand and Tavros rubbed his thumb gently along Daveâs knuckles. âIâm sorry, Dave.â Tavros said in a joking tone. âHow can, I make it up, to you?â
Dave pretended to think for a moment before saying âI donât know, I am pretty hurt by this. Maybe, just maybe, you could make it up to me with another kiss. Smelly breath and all.â
Tavros gasped in mock shock before leaning forward. âOh well, I guess, that if that is the only way to make it up to you,â Tavros let go of Daveâs hand to reach up with both to cup Daveâs face, âIâll just have to, kiss you, smelly breath and all.â
Dave put his cigarette out in the ashtray before wrapping both arms around Tavâs waist. He leant down just a bit so that Tavros could reach him. Tavros smiled and kissed him gently on one cheek and then the other before finally kissing Daveâs lips.
Dave was strange and Tavros could always feel like there was just something about him he couldnât possibly understand. Though, his arms were strong and warm and his lips were soft and he loved him.
Tavros was the one to pull away first and as he opened his eyes he could see that Dave was smiling softly. âWe should probably, get inside,â Tavros said in a whisper. There was something about the way Dave was looking at him. It made his stomach flip again. Without his sunglasses Daveâs eyes were open and expressive and for a moment he saw a flicker of something that looked almost sad before he spoke.
âYeah, youâre right. Itâs not really a good idea to make out on the roof like this, huh?â He said with a quick peck on the lips before they climbed back through the bedroom window.
-------------
This fic was based off of an AU I wrote with friend of mine horussfiddlest-ckingzahhak. The basic plot of it was that Tavros was a mortal and Dave was a god who fell in love with him.
I wrote this a while back as a birthday present for a friend and even though a lot of it has been rendered non canon a while back I'm still pretty happy with it and wanted to publish it. I'll probably give it a title later
Davesprite wasn't sure how long heâd been travelling through the empty void of paradox space. Time never seemed to pass normally here and he had long ago given up trying to keep track of it. Besides, he was no longer really a hero of time, so why should he care about it? If the minutes passed like actual minutes or if they passed like hours that wasn't his business any longer.
Sometimes while he was floating he would think about Jade and John. Did they miss him? He hoped not. He was nothing to miss, and besides, they were going to see the real Dave when he left so theyâd probably already forgotten about him. Other times heâd think about Rose, the one heâd left behind whose memories had fused with the one from this universe. Did she miss him even though she had her own Dave? He thought about the trolls heâd never met and probably never meet.
There wasn't much else for him to do as he floated through the expanse of empty space. Just a half birdman alone with his thoughts. Eventually he was overcome by a strange feeling as the scenery around him changed. Suddenly he was floating in a room, a messy very familiar room. There was a boy sitting on a couch, back to him. His skin was pale grey and he had one massive horn growing from either side of his head.
Davesprite floated there in silence for a moment before the boyâs large cowlike ears perked up and he turned. He nearly jumped out of his own skin when he saw him, a loud thunk going through the otherwise quiet apartment as he stood.
âOh, uhh, I, who are you?â The boy stuttered out before bending down and picking up a book to place on the futon, obviously what had made the loud noise a second ago.
Davespriteâs throat felt dry as he stared. He coughed before finally saying âDaveâ It felt weird to talk after spending so long in silence and even stranger to call himself by his actual name.
The boy gave him a bright smile before walking around the futon to stand before him. He raised an eyebrow as Davesprite introduced himself but didnât say anything beyond, âIt is, very nice to meet you Dave. Iâm Tavrosâ He held out a hand in greeting.
Davesprite hesitantly reached out and took it, careful of his long claws against the skin of Tavrosâ hands. They stood in silence for a moment before Davesprite said, âwait a sec. I know you. Youâre that kid who tried to troll me and failed horribly.â Davesprite almost smirked as he remembered how quickly that conversation had turned. He wasnât sure how much of the timeline of this guy and his own was the same, but the way he flushed brown and took his hand back told him that at least that was static.
Tavros bit his lip and began to wring his hands. âYeah, uhh, that was a thing that happened, at a point previous of this one.â When he looked back up Davesprite noticed for the first time that his eyes were completely blank.
âYouâre dead, right?â Davesprite asked. Not the most tactful, but then again, tact was not something Dave from any timeline was well known for. Tavros didnât say anything, just nodded once. âHow did you die?â He asked
Tavros paused for a moment, chewing his lip and alternating between looking at his feet and back up at Davesprite. âBy being, stupidâ He said finally
Davesprite nodded, but decided not to push the issue. While he was tactless, he wasnât stupid and could tell that was all he was going to get out of Tavros for now. âThis is the afterlife right?â Davesprite asked as he looked around.
Tavros nodded again, âuhh, yeah sort of, like the human idea of an, afterlife.â Davesprite nodded.
The afterlife looked a lot like, well, his apartment back home. There was Broâs computer and the kitchen full of shitty swords. It was almost eerie. Everything looked exactly like it had before Sburb. If he had feet he would have shifted from side to side in discomfort, but instead he stayed floating for a moment before saying âHey, do you think we can sit down or some shit?â Tavros looked down at his ghostly tail for a moment before shrugging,
âYeah if you want to, we can sit over there.â He pointed over to the futon. He began to walk over and Davesprite followed. When Tavros sat down Davesprite joined him, hovering inches above the seat. âForgive me for, uhh, asking but, you do not lookââ
Davesprite cut him off, âitâs a long storyâ
âOh, uhh, Iâm sorry. I didnât know.â Tavros said, looking down at his hands.
Davesprite shrugged, âNah, itâs cool. Itâs just a long boring storyâ
Tavros nodded, but didnât say anything for a while. Finally he turned to him and said with a smile, âDo you still, like to rap?â
Davesprite paused for a moment and before he could stop himself he gave Tavros a small smile of his own, âyeah, pretty sure I do. Why? Lookin to get your ass handed to you?â
Tavros laughed and shook his head, âI am fairly certain that my sick fires are so potent that it will be you who is getting the ass handing today.â
