A work not done...

So I’ve been back in the states for just over a week now and I am still pining for Lima. I had such an amazing time there and I’ve needed some time to process, think, reflect, and reminisce. I also need to finish my assignments for the class I was taking, because it was actually a class. So since this space contained a lot of my personal findings, I’m going to create new website that is a little bit more organized and academic that can house all of the things that I want to create and then finish up here. This will be the first test of my ability to follow through this school year. I have 4 days. Let’s go.

Fuimos a la taller de Teodoro Ramirez en Huaycan, un retablisto famoso. Eramos fascinado por su tecnica y los detalles en cada pieza. Ademas, cada pieza contenia elementos sobre la violencia politica y los desaparedecidos. En particular, la retablo sobre Uchurracay se llama “Nanachikuy”, significando dolor autoinfligido en Quechua, me llamo la atencion. Sr. Ramirez explico que la violence estaba en contra que la naturaleza de las personas y para obligarse y matarse unos a otros era como obligarlos a hacerse dano. Este explicacion me hizo pensar sobre la complejidad de la violencia politica y que lo que hace la gente a actuar. Tambien, el hablo sobre su trabajo como un maestro y algunos de su otros trabajos, incluyendo arte erotica y ceramicas Star Wars.

We went to, famous retablo artist, Teodoro Ramirez’s workshop in Huyacan. We were fascinated by his technique and the details in each piece. Further, each piece contained elements about the political violence and the disappeared. In particular, the retablos about Uchrracay called “Nanachikuy,” meaning self-inflicted pain in Quechua, grabbed my attention. Mr. Ramirez explained that the violece was against the nature of the people and for them to force themselves to kill each other was like forcing them to harm themselves. This explanation made me think about the complexity of the political violene and what causes people to act. Also, he talked about his work as a teach and some of his other work including erotic art and Star Wars themed ceramics.
