i had to litter box train my cat
he was a stray i adopted and i tried for years and years to teach him to use a litter box but he did not understand; he'd seen other cats use it, i plopped him down in it when he signalled he needed to go, but he'd just run to the door to be let out instead, tried like 4 different styles of litter and open vs private boxes, but nope... after like 5 years i was trying yet again, and on a whim, just grabbed a handful of sticks and leaves from his preferred pissing spot outside and put them ontop of the cat litter, and INSTANTLY he was like "ohhhhhh! it's for pissing!" and started using it regularly, blessed idiot baby
