frederick-stallworth:
“You don’t mean that.” Frederick mirrored the medium’s quieted response with his own, knowing Finn’s words weren’t meant in a harmful way, only highlighting the truth of his point. When the popularity of kingdoms rose and fell in the society, he fancied traveling the world alone at the start, colliding with Aimee every so often until unexpectedly dragging the unusual friendship with Finn along for the ride. Freddie listened carefully, listened closely with such patience he often scoffed at and everything unbecoming of the vampire. It was a wonder he sat in a throne for hours on end hearing complaints he could easily vanquish with one command. “I’ve seen firsthand the stages of heartbreak you are forced to partake, I even understand the hesitancy to hold anything close, but you have allowed fear to rule over your decisions in the centuries I have known you.” Leaning backwards in his chair and wincing at the groaning squeak, he pondered his next response. “You believe with every fiber of your being that it is better to be alone in the confidence no one can hurt you. A behavior simple enough to push those closest away, which is precisely what you want. Finn,” The male slipped a slow sigh from his lips, “You’ve been alone for a very, very long period. When will you realize it’s slowly killing you from the inside out?”
Freddie was right. He didn’t mean it. Freddie and Aimee, as annoying as they are, brought a friendship and light into his light; however, it was different than what Freddie was stating was present between him and the Sinclair girl. He watched Frederick choose his words carefully that portrayed the royalty that sometimes Finn forgot he was. “There is no fear, Freddie, maybe it’s the fact that I don’t know how to love in the way that you want me to with her anymore,” he said with a sad shrug. Finn had lost count of the days, months, centuries that he’d been on his own, following in Freddie’s shadow-- content to help who he could while he kept to himself. He didn’t know how to be any different, care any differently than he does. His greatest wish had become his greatest downfall-- chronic loneliness following at every corner. “Leave it to you to bring the dramatics. At least with being immortal, I can’t actually be killed from being alone.”
