“I said thank fuck I don’t have to worry about bringing sweaters back to Tampa when I go home for the break. Although,” He mused, “My parents tend to think that seventy degrees is cold, so I might end up wearing one while I’m there.” He paused. “Where you from, bro? Alaska? New Jersey? Colorado? What’s cold for you? On a scale of one to Frozone’s nuts?”
Finn looked at the boy confused, ‘Frozone’s what?’ he thought. Instead of lingering on the phase he answered his question. “I’m from Georgia, it’s actually supposed to get it’s first snow of the season while I’m there.” Finn paused thinking back on all the good memories he had as a child in the snow, in between his violin and piano lessons of course. “I’m just going to be glad to get out of the heat for a while if anything.” He added. “What about you? Are you doing anything for the holiday?”
stellabelmonte:
Stella didn’t bother looking up from the shrimp alfredo that she was ravenously enjoying (on Finn’s dime, no less) when Finn flipped his old Razor shut, the stress in his tone evident as he got off he phone with his mother. After a large bite out of the pasta plated in front of her, Stella kicked her feet up on the chair across from her and washed her swallow down with a swig of the already-liquored-up margarita mix right from the plastic Quervo bottle. Then she spoke. “At least you have a family to go home to, Finny.” It was self-deprecating and a quip that was, by no means, to be taken seriously, but Stella would surely feel the weight of what she’d said when she was absurdly drunk later on in the evening. “Can’t complain about that–not even on a six hour flight back to the Good Ol’ South.”
Finn looked over at Stella startled,”Oh heck, Stella, I’m not mad about going home, I’m just stressed over finals coming up soon and mom’s not making it any better calling me every four hours with about a million new questions.” He sighed as he plopped down next to her. He contemplated hugging the girl but second thought that on fear of losing two fingers. “And you know you have family here. Gabe, Lilliana, Iva, and I, we’re your family, and I’m positive everyone feels the same.” He thought about it for another second as the girl began to eat her noodles again. “You can come with me you know? Home? My parents wouldn’t mind. It’d give them a reason to use the extra fancy dinner plates.” He smiled at Stella, “Your always welcome to come back to the Good Ol’ South with me.”
lanafitzgerald:
“Not very excited to spend the break at home?” Lana asked, ignoring his question entirely. She hadn’t been saying anything to him previously, but if he were willing to strike up conversation with her, she certainly wasn’t going to turn that down. “Thanksgiving is always a mess at my house also. How is it in the McGee house, then? I imagine the accomplishments game at dinner is pretty intense.”
Finn snorted then spoke up, “You’re definitely right, it does get pretty intense,” he smiled, reminiscing the Thanksgiving dinner two years ago when every other sibling tried, and failed, to one up Leighanne’s announcement that she was engaged to her wife. When Finn came out of his thoughts, the girl beside him was still looking at him, probably waiting on a response, “I love my family without a doubt, but sometimes things get a bit competitive. How about you? Do you have seven siblings all trying to fight for your parents attention too? Or are you lucky?” He joked.
“No mom, the plane will land at 2:45 pm not am.” Finn sighed into his phone, his voice had more than a little irritated twinge to it. “Yes, mom I packed sweaters, I know it’s going to be cold, I basically lived there my entire life you know.” He said jokingly. “Yeah, mom I- I love you too, yeah I’ll see you soon.” Finn looked over while flipping his phone shut “I’m sorry, what were you saying?”
sccu-starling:
Lydia scoffed with a smile. “ ‘Any lo mein’ he asks me! Of course there is! I got all the basics- sweet and sour, general tso, kung pow chicken, beef and brocoli, cashew chicken, dumplings, egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, and enough rice to feed a small army. I also meant to bring egg rolls but it was a long ride back and me and my uber driver ate half and I gave him the other half for the rest of his shift.” She admitted the last part sheepishly, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. Lydia had one real weakness in her life and it was cuisine. She eyed the table full of food, liquor bottles, and a frankly excessive amount of weed and other drugs she didn’t recognize, a little unnerved. Though she was no stranger to marijuana and had even on a memorable occasion tried mushrooms, ‘hard’ drugs made her a little nervous. “You’ve got quite the spread here. Have you been having fun so far, Finn?”
Finn smiled at the thought of Lydia sharing her food with her Uber driver, only she could be that kind. He began to scoop a little bit of everything onto both of the plates, “No, I haven’t had any drinks really.” He admitted, glancing back at the girl. “I’ve kind of been busy keeping track of my roommates and making sure they’re okay. Stella, as you know, is tipsy and giving people tattoos, Gabe is slowly drinking a beer in the corner, Iva is sitting on Julian, and Liliana is drunk and painting people in her bedroom. There hasn’t really been any time to drink” He shrugged.
ianwilde:
Ian shrugged. “A free tattoo is a free tattoo,” He mused comically, watching Finn’s face twist with concern with amusement of his own. “I’d get a penis tattoo if it wasn’t in a super conspicuous spot. Think of the story you could tell down the line.”
Finn was still concerned but he let it smooth out into acceptance, some people liked to live their life wildly, he guessed. “I’m sure she’d appreciated that, if you asked nicely enough she’ll probably put it in a spot not a lot of people would see.” Finn smiled softly, “Other than free tattoos, we also have free drinks and food as long as you brought something to contribute in return.”
sccu-starling:
“Thanks! I’ve been binge watching Kimmy Schmidt lately, and I look good in yellow.” Lydia’s smile only widened as he grabbed her wrist. It wasn’t as if it had been in any way tight, and it showed that he had some interest in keeping her near him, even just a polite desire to show her to the kitchen. Though she couldn’t quite hear his apologies over the music, but she could clearly see his distress. Pressing her shoulder more firmly against his, she waved the incident away. “You’re fine Finn! It’d be easy to get lost in this crowd. Let’s get to the kitchen so I can dish us both up some hot and sour soup, and maybe a drink?”
“Alright,” Finn agreed. He continued to weave through the crowd, taking a couple of elbows in the side before finally reaching the kitchen. He turned to look at Lydia before turning back to the ‘complimentary’ items for the party. “Okay. You said hot and sour? Any low mein?” He asked while reaching for some plastic plates and cups.
farah-lynn:
“Just because it comes from that whore’s mouth doesn’t mean it’s credible. Like seriously, how fucking dense to be under that one’s spell?”
He flinched but slowly his face twisted into anger, “I think it says a lot about your character that you’re desperately trying to convince all of Stella friends that she’s such a bad person, but you should consider the fact that it takes one to know one, and the fact that you’re acting hostile and rude and shaming her in front of someone you barely even know doesn’t help straighten your case at all.”
farah-lynn:
She let a small huff out her noise as her eyes narrowed further. “So I should just take everything your worst enemy says about you as complete and utter truth without ever giving any thought to the actual facts of the statements?”
Finn sharpened his gaze, “Well, I’m a man of education and understanding, so information coming from multiple credible sources isn’t something I’d be so quick to label as fake news.” He quipped.
sccu-starling:
His blush was barely visible above his taped on mustache, and was as cute as the rest of him. Lydia couldn’t help but laugh, quickly placing a hand on his arm so he knew it wasn’t cruel. “You’re so nervous!” Lydia scolded gently, looping her arm through his boldly and leading him in to his own apartment. “Would you do me a favor and show me where to put this?” She asked, showing her shopping bag full of Styrofoam boxes filled with steaming hot Chinese food. The apartment wasn’t that big, she absolutely could find the kitchen herself, but well.
“O-oh yeah,” Finn stuttered and started dodging through the mass of bodies toward the kitchen. “I-I like your costume and Chinese is always a good choice.” Her grip on his arm seemed to lessen, so without thinking he swooped down to grab her wrist. Realizing what he’d done he began to apologize, “Oh gosh, I-I’m really - I’m really sorry,” he said in hushed tones while looking down.
farah-lynn:
Watching the guy look around, Farah pulled her brows together an narrowed her eyes. She’d never met the guy before, and he already seemed to have formed an opinion of her. “What’s your problem with me”, she asked bluntly as her arms folded across her chest in defense.
Finn grimaced and turned his attention back to the pouting girl. “Not that I’m spreading rumors, but I’ve heard unpleasant things about your personality from my roommates on multiple occasions.” He sighed and looked at her in pity. “Not to mention I’ve heard a couple re-tellings of a few ‘choice’ words on your account to a certain alcoholic friend of mine”
farah-lynn:
“Please. Like that would have been able to keep me out.”
Finn started and frowned at the girl. He thought about it for a moment, “Well that may be true but i’m sure a bolt and chain could’ve done the trick, but since you’re already here I guess this is a welcome.” He smiled grimly, swinging his head around looking for a way out of this conversation.
