Jaime couldn’t help but smile at the introduction. He knew that he was going to get along with his new roommate. He shook the hand in front of him, nodding his head slightly. “I’m Jaime or Jimmy, I’ll answer to bother, or anything really.” He shrugged his shoulders slightly. “Nice to meet you Ray.” He said as he let the other’s hand go. “Welcome to our little home away from home. It’s just you and I for now, but boy am I glad you’re here. It’s been a little lonely here all by myself.” 

“Jimmy, I like. We’ll find you a nickname, and it ain’t gonna be bother either. Where you from?” Ray was becoming a big fan of his roommate very rapidly, mostly because of how quickly he had been welcomed. Most people wouldn’t want to be roomed with a complete stranger, but Jaime seemed excited to have him around, which only served to increase his own enthusiasm “Well, I’ll bet. Nice big place like this, no one to share it with. Sorry to keep you waitin’ then, I had me a look around the area, ended up comin’  back up because it is hot hot out there tonight. Ain’t no air conditioning in the street, no.”

Inviting someone out to dinner on his first week in the city wasn’t the best idea, in hindsight, so maybe Ray should’ve seen this coming. Still, after the first half hour, he remained patient. He wasn’t stupid, he knew she probably wouldn’t be showing up any time soon, but why not wait a bit longer? A bit of time had passed between ordering his first and second drink, before he decided to have another look around. The people occupying the space had changed, for the most part, in the last ten or so minutes, save for the lone woman a few tables away. He figured it wouldn’t hurt to leave his table at this point, not when he’s already paid his drinks and no one would be arriving, and maybe she needed the company. After reasoning to himself for a few seconds, he stood and made his way over, leaning against the back of the chair that was across from the woman “Don’t tell me you all alone over here, cher?”

Hayden had been in the complex for a couple of days now, meaning that he was fairly well settled. Being in the dorm set up was a shock to his system, having lived alone in his generous penthouse for so long, but he was starting to get used to it. Currently, he was in the convenience store, eyeing the vast array of sickly looking American snacks on display. ❝ Is there anything here that doesn’t look like it just tastes like a colour ?? ❞ He scoffed, picking up a bag of what looked like innocent crackers, but turned out to be cheesy monstrosities. ❝ I think I may have to brush up on my cooking skills. ❞

Ray had been eyeing a box of cheap chocolate pralines, wondering if the six dollars it costs would be worth the disappointment the second he so much as took a bite. His experience with various foods in the area had so-far left much to be desired, and left him to try out many late night cooking experiments. So, the comment coming from somewhere else in the store brought a chuckle out of him, shaking his head as he tossed the box of the sugary snack into his basket “’Fraid not, brother, least not in this aisle. Might wanna try something thataway,” he pointed with his thumb toward a small selection of bland vegetable-based chips with a grin, which disappeared once he looked over and caught sight of who he was talking “You lookin’ good, old friend.” Ray commented with a small nod, turning back to the display of treats in front of him “You could try some of the family restaurants around here, too.”

Jaime had gotten an e-mail to tell him that he was finally getting a suitemate and he was beyond excited. He was a very social person, so for him to be alone in a 3 room suite was driving him a little stir-crazy. He knew he was one of the older people on campus and he often saw groups of the younger kids going out for a late night party or going to bars, but he was passed that stage of his life, if he even had that stage. He had much more important things to work on, and besides, it was hard for him to stay awake past 9 pm anymore, let alone be out among people. He closed his e-mail and pushed himself up, running around to make sure he had cleaned up before he heard the door opening. He turned quickly on his heels and grinned.

Ray had taken his time getting to his suite, to be honest. He wanted to get to know the area, and boy did he. The slight buzz he was feeling from his small pit stop at a local bar, added to his overall excitement to be here, made for a very good time exploring. “Ooh-wee,” he whistled appreciatively as he stepped inside, nodding in approval at the place he’d be staying “Well, ain’t this place pretty?” it was only then that he glanced to his side, noticing the other man grinning over at well “Well hel-lo there, brother. My name’s Raymond,” he gave an over exaggerated bow, only offering a hand to shake once he’d stood and regained a bit of balance “But you can call me Ray.”

Joy was immensely relieved to be able to shrug their duffel bag off of their back, rolling their shoulders a few times to alleviate some of the tension that lingered there. Strands of their hair, damp from sweat, clung to their forehead and the muscle tank they were wearing stuck to their torso uncomfortably, but Joy was hardly bothered. Being from San Francisco, they were used to cycling making them unreasonably tired, considering how steep a lot of the streets are. They glanced around the lobby and grinned at someone’s questioning stare, ❝ I missed the last bus because a cute girl asked for help and I couldn’t resist, how embarrassingly tragic is that ?? So I had to cycle the whole way. ❞

The sudden arrival of a person while he was ready to go up to his suite prompted Ray to turn, gearing up for a friendly greeting. At least, until he took in their sweaty and exhausted appearance. He wondered what on Earth tired them so much; the day could’ve been warmer, and the buses hadn’t been too much of a hassle. His confusion must’ve been transparent, given how quickly they explained “Oh, pity.” Ray shook his head sympathetically at their story, knowing it all too well. It sounded a lot like him, if he were being honest, being far too smitten with someone and putting them first. It was crazy what a pretty face could make one do “Tell me you got her number at least, mon cher.”
