                her  pleading  eyes  were  turned  on  parvati,  ready  to  beg  if  needed .  not  only  was  she  sure  to  have  a  miserably  boring  time  if  she  was  forced  to  attend  alone,  her  mother  had  only  been  getting  more  and  more  keen  on  the  idea  of  setting  her  up  lately   -   it  wasn’t  out  of  the  question  to  believe  this  party  invite  was  calliope  fawley’s  poor  attempt  at  disguising  a  blind  date  setup .

Perhaps the last place anyone should be reading or doing any research was at a particularly rowdy wizard’s bar  on a Friday night - but Luna Lovegood was doing just that. Tucked away in  a booth at the corner, two books open before her and half-consumed cake and iced tea just slightly off to the side. Granted, she truly did find concentration in such a space. The buzz of warmth and unending unintelligible chatter served as a pleasant way to fill up the space, to keep her head rooted firmly where it should’ve been instead of wandering about like it always would. It was why she never liked to visit the silence of the library.

So she was used to the occasional stares; sometimes people would pause and ask what she was doing. Which was why she knew the person was standing by the edge of her booth for a bit now. Luna had grown accustomed to ignoring many people, but once they hit a time threshold, she knew she had to say something. “Yes?” Her voice was light, genuinely curious, as she finally looked up from her book to face the person.

it  wasn’t  that  lavender  didn’t  appreciate  a  good  party,  it’s  just  that  . . .  well,  this  wasn’t  a  good  party .  the  birthday  girl’s  brother  had  already  asked  her  to  go  home  with  him  -  twice  -  and  the  woman  of  the  hour  was  champagne - drunk  and  getting  louder  by  the  minute .  lavender  was  closing  her  tab,  more  than  ready  to  head  home  &  call  it  an  early  night  when  she  spotted  a  familiar  slip  of  a  girl  sitting  alone  in  a  corner  booth  and  decided  to  make  her  way  over,  hoping  that  time  spent  with  a  friend  would  help  end  her  night  on  a  happier  note .

which  is  how  she  finds  herself  here  now,  wavering  between  claiming  the  empty  space  in  the  booth  for  herself  or  walking  away  rather  than  interrupt  luna’s  work .  her  cheeks  flush  pink  as  the  younger  girl’s  attention  turns  to  her  -  she  hadn’t  meant  to  hover,  second - guessing  whether  luna  would  welcome  an  intrusion,  but  now  that  she’d  been  caught,  it  seemed  the  choice  had  been  made  for  her .
