Improving My View Of Things 2015
Improving My View Of Things In 2015............ Hooray - Today I got my new glasses. That is a good thing. It had been (12) years since I last had my eyes checked and purchased a new pair of glasses. Lots has happened in that last (12) years. I am retired now and spend a good share of time staring at this computer screen. My eyesight has deteriorated quite significantly during that time. The Eye Doc said that technology has really improved and I will be shocked how much better that I will be able to see. I do hate to admit it, but, I really had turned into a bumbling mess with my previous glasses. I don't tie flies any more for fishing (eye and hand coordination with tiny diameter thread and hooks) just got to be so frustrating. So now I fish with shiny Spinners and Spoons and other tackle box paraphernalia that I can easily see. Falling down has become an issue (hopefully, short term) as I stumble around trying to watch where my feet land so I stay upright. Anyhow, just wanted to share that the new glasses have been wonderful too me today. As the old Johnny Nash (not Cash) song goes, "I can see clearly now the rain has stopped, I can see all obstacles in my way" I can hear you all pleading to me "Don't sing Gramps"! Thought I would share what I imagine my first ever pair of glasses looked like:
Then I went on to look like this as my parents got a little more sophisticated.
Then along came Uncle Sam and he got this look.......
A more modern day look....................... Actually, Me and Ol' Walter

Then Came The Rain........
Otherwise, known as May, 2015. What a dramatic change in the weather! Any signs of a long, beautiful, sun filled Spring in Northern Colorado were quickly inundated with water. Lots of water in the form of Rain, Snow, Hail, and, did I mention rain.
As of the date of this post, May 26th, 2015, we have had rain, snow, hail, or some other form of wet weather for (20) of the (26) days so far. This is the result of all this……….
Yup, The Big Thompson River, near my home is high, running fast, and really unsafe to be in the general area of the river itself. The South Platte River is flooding in the flats of Eastern Colorado.
So I thought for sure I had been somehow in a dream and was really living in Seattle with all the rain. Nope!! I thought this was a good way to demonstrate how wet it has been this May. Welcome to Colorado!
So to put a wrap on this entry in my journal, no fishing to be had so far in May. Most likely won’t make it out until next weekend. That makes it June, 2015.
In The Beginning..March & April
I want to take the time to use and keep updated this fishing journal so that I can have a place to collect my thoughts and memories about my fishing trips and fishing related wisdom while my ol’ worn out memory still works. I love fishing. Always have. So many good times and fellowship with friends and family. Should have started writing this journal before now.
2015 has been an odd year so far. We had a relatively mild winter to begin with. March and April found many nice days in the 70’s temperature wise. I was able to get out and fish on Rivers Edge and Jayhawker ponds near home on several occasions. Dragonfly Pond, in particular, seemed to fish really well for the early season. I had success, initially, on the north side of the pond near the highway. Rainbow Trout stockers were willing and able on most days. My most effective lures were Kastmaster spoons in Silver, Gold, in 1/4 and 1/8 oz. size. Fished from shore as I prefer to walk the shorelines. Fish were of the 10″ – 13″ variety. Although, I don’t prefer to fish bait, worms, were being used by other bank fishers with good success.
Mid – April saw me fishing more from the south shore of Dragonfly Pond. Found that Tube Jigs were effective off of the early weedbeds on that side of the pond. Caught a mixture of Rainbow Trout, Bluegill, and Bass on a Nightcrawler colored tube jig. Happy to find some active Bass and Bluegill to go along with the Rainbow Trout.
On one occasion, I spent some time fishing the South Jayhawker Pond. I hooked and lost a decent size Largemouth Bass as he fought his way loose at my feet. It would have easily been my biggest Largemouth Bass, which really isn’t saying much as I have just began to learn more about Bass fishing in the ponds. I hooked this fish on a Rapala Ultralight Crank Bait in the Fire Tiger color.
Something to remember was the wind blowing off my Tilley hat, and, the effort that Matt and I had getting it back off the pond by casting for it. Matt also caught his first Bass on one of these trips. I was excited to see his excitement.
On another trip in late April, Noah was able to land his first Rainbow Trout ever. Hopefully, he has many more to come.
