chapter 3 of garden of eden 🚨🚨 ‼️

chapter 3 of my kotlc fedex fic and there would be peace in the garden of eden is up! it only took a couple of months but we got there in the end, and it's ~10k words! (essentially the fic is a retelling of the vackers’ grief struggle from exile, if dex happened to knock on everglen’s pearly gates one day and got punched in the face.)

we've got a pretty good balance of fluff and angst in this one (bit of a "calm before the storm" moment) and a lot of focus on the supporting characters! if any of what i’ve said sounds appealing please check it out!! summary below the cut ❤️

summary:

Had he known this was the work of a planting escort… Dex wasn’t sure if he would so readily agree to the job as he did. But Fitz couldn’t be blamed. He probably had no idea what it was like to be a planting escort, either. Then he remembered—this wasn’t about him. It had been a full two and a half hours, and all four of the Vackers had stood through all of it. They were the ones who had actually lost a family member. He was here to help them. There was no time to mope about his own pain from just being in the presence of their despair. He stood up and turned, and Fitz was already approaching him. He looked surprised by Dex’s sudden movements. “…You’re okay?” Fitz was asking him?

Being a planting escort is harder than it sounds. Dex thinks he might pass out in front of the entire Lost Cities from the pressure, but thinking about the other people in his life gets him through it. It isn’t just Fitz who’s going through something right now, but all of them—Biana, Sophie, and Keefe all have struggles of their own. He misses when it felt like they were all friends. Fortunately for him, those days aren’t far off.
