Hello, all! Call me fivefootoh! You can find me under fivefootoh on most social media platforms (just so no one else takes the name), but I am a lurker at heart and only really intend to post things here on Tumblr. My main blog is @fivefootoh.

This is the submas (Subway Masters) sideblog! Anything else I draw/write related to pokemon will be posted here, too.

@theright2quack ty for giving me permission to ramble about OCs xD Here are my notes on the previous wardens/apprentice in "Attrition, Retention"! These are the people who were present around Ishimi's time as an apprentice/warden. I don't really have any notes on the other four nobles and their wardens since they haven't really been relevant in the story.

Sneasler - Narasu - Ishimi’s maternal grandpa. Prior to Ishimi coming into the picture, Narasu struggled as a father and prioritized his warden duties well above parenthood, leading him to being estranged from his family. He was apprenticed young and spent most of his days in the highlands, and was vehemently against any sort of conflict between the clans. He was unable to stop his daughter and son in law from fighting in the war in part because of their strained relationship, and Ishimi fell into his lap as her remaining living relative. He tried his best at this second chance at parenthood, though he knew he wasn’t perfect. Ishimi would say that he did a good job in spite of his faults.

Avalugg - Akihi - Akihi was a troublemaker in her younger days, which was what originally got her partner’s attention as a teenager. She was quickly scooped up by the Avalugg warden before her after she and Misdreavus bonded and was taught all about ghost pokemon. In her old age, she was always one to sniff out gossip and drama, and always found Ishimi’s foul mouth rubbing off on Emmet hilarious. Ingo does not really remember it anymore, but he and her became good friends before her passing. She married the Kleavor warden before Ulli out of convenience to get the clan off their backs about being single. Both of them found the long distance relationship rather funny because of how it frustrated everyone who wasn’t in the know.

Kleavor - Ulli - Lian’s uncle. Ulli was a young apprentice that was called on in the aftermath of the war, after the last Kleaver apprentice defected from wardenship to fight. He was younger than Ishimi, enough so that the two of them hadn’t played much with each other back at the Pearl Settlement, but the two were always on friendly terms through the years. He was the one who introduced Lian to geology and happily supplied his nephew with his knowledge and rare finds. He was always a friendly face for Ingo and Emmet whenever they met up for warden duties and clan gatherings.

Ursaluna - Fera - Calaba only had one apprentice, who was killed during the last clan war over twenty years prior to the events of PLA. When the wardens declared their neutrality in the conflict, Calaba’s apprentice dared to leave her side to help treat the wounded, regardless of their clan affiliation. It was a wrong place, wrong time situation, and Calaba has never completely moved on from it.

Arcanine - Aiya - Palina’s mother, and Mito’s (Irida’s mother) older sister. Everything polite and proper about Palina comes from her mother, though that’s where the similarities end. Aiya was a staunch traditionalist and she didn’t get along very well with the other wardens. Aiya passed before Palina was in her teens, and was largely raised by her aunt, which is why she and Irida refer to each other as sisters.

Electrode - Hideki - Hideki and Narasu grew up together in the highlands, and called each other brothers for how well they got along. They were as close as Ingo and Emmet are with Gaeric. Hideki came from a shepherd family and already had a knowledge of weaving by the time he started his apprenticeship, which he used to his advantage. He would trade his craft for his goods and provided knit hats to the people he liked. Hideki passed on his title (and his weaving craft) to Melli several years before his death to spend his remaining time with his family in the Diamond Clan.

Got any specific notes on how Ingo and Emmet may act differently between your AUs vs how you write them in a more canon story?

Interesting question! I guess for a baseline, how I tend to write canon is that Ingo is polite and Emmet is blunt, and I go from there. I've noticed that I tend to write Emmet saying "terrible" a lot. (ie, "Terrible. Terrible [something].") idk it just fits his personality to me xD

In "Attrition, Retention" Emmet is a lot more quick to protect his brother than he would be in a more canon story. He also bears the brunt of emotional turmoil which I'll have you know was not my intent when I first started writing the story. That's just how it turned out xD

Ingo is a bit naive in this AU, in the sense that he doesn't always know the context of what's around him and has to roll with punches as they come. His innate knowledge is hard-earned and he guards it (and his journal) fiercely, to the point that he tends to panic if some of that shaky foundation is missing or if it feels off. The more he's entrenched in a routine, the more "Ingo" he tends to act.

The "Long, Long Time" twins are confident as hell. They've been around for a while that not too much phases them anymore (at least until Ingo disappears). They've also been around for long enough that the two of them are pretty in sync with one another. Having them tell stories is fun because I like them talking one after the other as if it's just one person telling the story xD

If you're still taking requests, maybe Ingo and Emmet from your vamp au with Emmet bringing up something embarrassing that Ingo did centuries before but he promised him at the time that he would never let him live (or I guess unlive it?) it down? I can totally see them doing that to each other lmao

Teasing each other is enrichment for these two regardless of the au xD

“On a scale of one to the library, what would you rate this?”

Ingo lowers his newspaper just enough to glare at him. “Oh, well above it.” He jabs a finger at a headline blazed across the front page. At the very least, his joltik infestation is below the fold now. “What I did practically pales in comparison for the simple fact that my name was not associated with it.”

“That’s not a factor in this question.” Emmet grins, leaning forward over Haxorus’s head. “I am curious about how embarrassing you think this is.”

Ingo closes his mouth and grimaces as he thinks. If he could blush, Emmet is certain his face would be bright red right now.

“…Not quite as bad, because you are to blame for this one.” He admits, refusing to look his way. “And that we can do something about it.”

Juno had been quiet up to this point as she performs maintenance on her team, but Emmet knows she’s been listening the whole time, feigning disinterest. “…Dare I ask what the incident was?” She finally asks, glancing over at them.

Ingo shoots Emmet a look that he ignores and steamrolls right ahead. He deserves this, after all the grief he's endured through this whole debacle.

“When we lived in Galar, Ingo would break into the library at the University of Hammerlocke after hours to steal books-“

“Borrowed. I only borrowed them.”

“-and it started to stir up rumors that the library was haunted.”

Juno raises a brow at Ingo. “Did you get caught?”

Ingo busies himself with fussing with his newspaper. “…I did not.”

Emmet smirks. “Ghosts are attracted to certain energies, and apparently enough rumors and belief in a place being haunted can be enough to lay a foundation for them to start showing up.”

“First it was the candles vanishing, and then litwicks would show up in their place.” Ingo grimaces. “Gastlys appeared, too. Last I heard the place is still a thriving home for both learning and ghostly activity.”

Juno blinks as something occurs to her. “Wait, you had permission to be in there. Why did you even start breaking into the library?”

“Ingo and the head librarian did not get along.” Emmet laughs. “But that’s a whole other story.”

“She had it out for me. I just know it.” Ingo grumbles, hiding behind his newspaper again.

I'm a sucker for snuggles too! I don't write them nearly enough. Here's some of the "Attrition, Retention" variety :)

Ingo eagerly pushed through the snow after Emmet and Ishimi towards their yurt once it was in sight. It was nice to be home after such a long patrol. He was exhausted, and he knew once he stopped moving he’d also be freezing.

“Wet clothes off.” Their mentor instructed as soon as she shut the door behind them. “Don’t need you getting sick again.”

“It’s cold in here.” Emmet whined.

“Of course it is. I need to get a fire going to warm up the space again.” Ishimi smirked. “There’s blankets you can use, you know.”

Ingo and Emmet got dressed quickly, hanging up their coats and pants and socks after changing into fresh, dry clothes. Ingo was shivering by the time he was done, with Gligar burrowing himself under his tunic to steal what little body heat he had.

The world was cast into darkness a moment later, and Ingo paused. He heard Emmet snickering next to his ear and looked over to see his brother holding a blanket over their heads. He smiled back at him.

“Or just share a blanket. That works, too.” Ishimi huffed softly.

Emmet grinned and the two of them situated themselves by the hearth, and Ingo pulled Gligar out from under his shirt to curl up with them and Tynamo under the blanket instead. By the time they were settled, their faces were the only things peeking out from under the massive blanket.

The fire was slowly growing from kindling to an actual flame, and Lampent was emitting her own gentle heat as she hung nearby. Ishimi gave him and Emmet a glance before she smirked gently and had Ambipom grab the pot for soup.

“Need help?” Ingo mumbled.

“I’ve got it this time.” Ishimi shook her head. “You look like a couple of bergmites right now. I’ll let you thaw out.”

Ingo shivered again and held his brother close, resting his head on his shoulder. He felt Emmet’s head carefully rest on top of his soon after as he hugged him back.

Emmet woke up from a dead sleep to the sound of the fire alarm going off in the middle of the night. Screeches and roars joined in the cacophony as he stumbled to find the source of the smoke.

Since it was their apartment, it didn’t take long for him to discover that it was coming from the kitchen.

He stood there and just watched as Ingo scrambled to put out a small fire on the floor. Chandelure was obviously the other culprit in this situation, as what looked to be a now-molten, smoking marshmallow was currently being consumed in violet ghostfire.

“Emmet! So sorry about all of this!” Ingo said, still slightly panicked. He slapped a dish towel over the marshmallow, both quelling the flame and getting the sticky treat all over the fabric.  “Ah… sorry about that, too.”

Emmet reached up to the fire alarm to turn it off before turning to his brother. It was then that he noticed the supplies of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers. “What is happening?” He asked.

Ingo was obviously embarrassed as he tried to clean off the marshmallow in the sink, before giving up and draping the cloth on the edge. “I just remembered that s’mores were a thing that existed, and I wanted to try them again.” He explained, motioning to the ingredients. “I thought it would be quick, and quiet.”

“Ingo. It’s 1am.”

“And?”

Emmet took a long, deep breath, before he smirked faintly and reached for the bag of marshmallows.

“Here, let me show you a safer way to do this in the microwave without potentially burning down the building in the process.”

Things at work are getting rescheduled on me again so I thought I’d post another part of my Pokopia idea to distract from that xD Also I’m soooo excited about the DLC coming out next week. I’m ready for new blocks to play with!

“People are surprised to find out that someone like me constantly vouches for the importance of bonds between pokemon and people. Maybe it’s because they see it as an emotional aspect, of which I do not possess. Little do most know that it’s a literal, scientifically proven phenomenon. I wrote most of the papers out there on it! A lot of these fools don’t even realize that it’s my energy research that’s powering the damn ships that are flinging us off of this rock! I am unappreciated in my time!

“...Forgive the outburst. As much as I do like being given this project, I am much less appreciative of being given a team to lead. I never liked group projects. At the very least I am in charge, so I get the final say, everyone else be damned. The foundation knows by now what they are getting themselves into by hiring me.

“I suppose I should explain why fusion is even an option here. We want to be able to store the viable subjects within the Conservation system, and have them be retrieved in the event of the failsafe. We can teleport humans around short distances but we cannot safely enter them into a box system like we can with pokemon.

“It is the hope that fusion will allow easier communication with the pokemon in the areas the subjects will be placed in. This is only an optional goal over actually getting the project off the ground, but it would be a benefit if we are able to pull it off.

“Now, back to the thing about bonds. So many aspects of pokemon-human relationships are contingent on how deep the trust is between the two parties. Mega stones, Z-crystals, sync moves, et cetera, et cetera. None of these things can happen without those bonds. Even a pokemon’s ability to power through in a pinch is derived from it. All this to say that I have a hypothesis that only well-bonded pairs can undergo a fusion with minimal side effects.

“It’s still a shaky metric to determine, even with scientific tools, but even a low-powered psychic can glean how deep a bond is between a trainer and their pokemon. The foundation is bringing one here to assist in the project. I told them they also need to be a scientist so they can be useful in other aspects around the lab. Let’s see if they can deliver.”
